Which Thinkpad for CS College Student

Get the Ryzen 7 T14 AMD Gen 2 or Intel T14/T15 Gen 2 with Nvidia MX450 GDDR6 if you needed GPU power for gaming. (If you are not getting Nvidia GPU, dont bother Intel thinkpad AMD is superior with just CPU alone). Each of these have battery around 4-5hours on average, they can fast charge up to 80% in 1 hour.

Can Acer Swift X (5800U+RTX3050) handle simple 3D modeling ?

Even integrated laptop GPUs can handle a lot now to be honest. AMDs Vega and Intels Xe iGPUs are fairly powerful, which makes the lowest end Nvidia MX450 dGPU pretty useless. That said, the 3050 will give you a very nice performance boost. Thermals aren’t an issue as far as I know.
