 With the HD23 I could just pump the contrast, lower the brightness, and use a gamma to get the best picture. Out of the box color wise you'll need to lower the reds, green, and boost the blue to get a proper white calibration. That's all fine, but the reason I'm writing this review is because about a week in now and I've been having serious issues. I'm hoping I just got a lemon

 Yes, I could see it if I made a point of looking for it, but hardly noticeable. Once I charged up the 3d glasses (DLP LINK 144 Hz Ultra-Clear HD 2 PACK 3D Active Rechargeable Shutter Glasses for All 3D DLP Projectors - BenQ, Optoma, Dell, Mitsubishi, Samsung, Acer, Vivitek, NEC, Sharp, ViewSonic & Endless Others! , purchased separately) Avatar in 3D just blew me away.  The unit did seem to put out a decent amount of heat, but the fan was very quiet, even sitting with my head only a couple of feet away. For those looking to ceiling mount their projector, there are only three mounting holes on the underside in a scalene triangle fashion and fairly close together

 We can even leave the room lights on, which we could not do with the older projector.  Our first test movie was Iron Man 3, and this was a good test of the dynamic range ability which comes with the high contrast ratio. When the dark scenes at the end of the movie are prominent, we could still see full detail in the shadowed areas of the scene. With our old projector, we could not see dark detail and the bright portions of the scene were washed out

 It worked great, but it started making unsettling noises. Rather than repair the SD version, the prices of HD projectors was now in reach. So we bought this one.  I chose this one for the excellent contrast ratio, and I am not disappointed
