The Outdoor Research Echo Hoodie has some unique features that make it an excellent addition for any activewear junkie. First, this lightweight sun top has switched from the fold-over cuffs of old to well-designed thumbholes that are comfortable to wear, even when on the move. Secondly, the Echo has a hole in its hood for your ponytail. Though this isn't the most stylish look, it certainly is very functional. Beyond these two unique features, this hoody is absurdly lightweight and impressively breathable. It is one of only a couple of shirts we tested that we could comfortably wear in the hot sun without pushing up the sleeves &mdash; precisely why it's great for days when you're pushing hard or in more intense heat. 
For all its other utilities, the Echo lacks pockets and has the lowest UPF value of any sun shirt we tested; just 20 for dark colors and only 15 for light colors. Most others are 35-50+, so this is underwhelming. And while we adore the breathability of this thin, quick-drying fabric, it's not particularly smooth, and we've had repeated issues with snagging in past versions. Though this current version didn't snag during our testing, it's made of the same fabric, so we expect the same to occur. Still, while the Echo may not continue to look pristine through the years, the quirky traits this top brings to the table make it super useful &mdash; and we love the bold colors it comes in too.

Weighing in at only 1.9 ounces for a women's size XS, the Echo is ultra-breathable and thin with one of the fastest drying shirts in our lineup. The underarm gusset adds an extra layer of comfort and reinforcement and the flatlock seams ensure that none of the panels chafe your body as you run. The sleeve length is protective enough to prevent chafing but short enough to offer a flattering aesthetic, and the gentle V-neck further adds to the flattering fit. In addition to providing sun protection, Outdoor Research's ActiveFresh odor control is woven into the perfectly-stretchy fabric, which cuts down on the amount of stink this shirt retains. As an added bonus, the Echo is comprised of 100% recycled polyester, so your eco-friendly conscious can rest assured that purchasing this running shirt is a good decision. 
The most notable downside of the OR Echo is that the thin material is more susceptible to snags than tees with slightly more robust fabrics. That said, though we actively tried to snag the breast panel of this shirt, only a few threads emerged. Overall, the Echo is a shirt that can take a beating, though it is mildly more delicate than heartier options. We had to reach to find another downside to this otherwise stellar shirt. The lighter colors provide a UPF of 15, while the darker colors provide a UPF of 20. In no way is a UPF 15 shirt a letdown, but if you are in the market for maximized sun protect and a light color, you'll have to decide which aspect matters to you more. Bottom line, if you are in the market for a versatile, breathable, moisture-wicking, and well-featured running shirt, this one is a great choice.

 Those cuffs are a very poor design choice. This is supposed to be a warm weather sun shirt. Why would I need "mitts" to fold over my fingers, rendering my hands useless? When the mitts aren't in use, it makes the cuffs a double layer and too hot. Please change the design to have thumb holes, like the men's version, which allows us to protect our hands from sun while still being able to use them

Needs thumbholes instead of the weird mitten cuffs

This material is semi transparent. I did not use it, as I was expecting a fleece type “hoodie” sweatshirt. This is NOT that.

I would actually like to return it as the size does not fit me well and the fabric easily snags and scratches.

 Overall - great sunshirt, will likely grab the purple option when it's back in stock. I got an XS, I'm 5'4" and 120 lbs for reference.

Smart Design, Slightly Odd Fit

 Make the cuffs the same as the mens version! I ended up cutting the cuffs off mine and hemming them, so much nicer with looser airy cuffs. Also wasn't keen on any of the colors, settled on pebble. Would have preferred a light and bright color like sky blue, orange, lemon yellow - anything but purple and pink please. I would recommend this to a friend but I would help them cut the cuffs off

 I wore it around the house this winter and it was breathable, lightweight, and felt just right. It’s thin, making it semi-sheer, but still a comfortable layer. The fit on me is okay for a small, but being out shape, a medium might be better or flattering. (I wear about a S/M or 6P, 145 lbs

Comfortable, breathable, lightweight, protective

 Typically i wear a medium or large in shirts and I thought this would be a little more loose-fitting than it is. If you usually wear a tank top or tee under your sunshirts, consider sizing up. Also note the gray color is slightly see-through, so wearing a dark or brightly colored layer underneath will come through.

 Material is super thin (hope it lasts). Very much like the fact that the hood extends out 1-1.5" away from the head for lots of sun protection (no hat needed). Have seen only 5-star reviews for the OR Echo T-shirt
