Patagonia Down Sweater Hoody

The AR will be warmer than the Patagonia down sweater, but if this is for casual use and its THAT cold (damn you Canadians) I would look at the kappa/Koda (same jacket, but Koda is more casual).

Thunk about synthetic fill for wet climates, down for colder and better compression. Eddie Bauer has some deals, but you do get what you pay for. I have a Patagonia Down Sweater that packs small but still has enough loft to provide real warmth. Those 60g fill jackets like the Nano Puff aren't very warm.

I seriously got a down 800FP hooded jacket by First Ascent at Goodwill last week for $30. My go to down travel jacket is a Patagonia Down Sweater that came from a consignment store. Along with the down, a layering system using a long sleeve base layer and fleece or wool sweater really makes the most versatile cold weather wardrobe. Gloves, beanie cap, neck gaiter or scarf, warm socks and shoes, wind resistant pants and light long underwear round it out.

It is soft and comfortable. It has the nicest feel of all the fabrics.

I prefer >800 fill. Overall, after a quick look like the LL bean ultralight, the Patagonia down sweater, Rab microlight, and the OR helium. I think they’re all better than the MH ghost whisperer and slightly cheaper.

It's great because it's so packable but extremely warm. And because it's nylon any jacket I throw over it just slides over with minimal friction.

The Nano-Air Hybrid is a bit too breathable and lightly insulted, whereas the down sweater is very warm and nice for anything idle but cumbersome and goose-down. It seems like the Atom could complement the Nano-Air well, but I am seeking advice about whether to go with the AR or LT. Is the LT too close to the Nano in terms of warm and breath ability? Is the AR too warm to be relevant for Fall-Spring?.

Held up well enough but there was compaction in the hood area from what I imagine was compression and moisture from sweat, breathing, greasy hair, etc. But overall the down was still plenty lofty and warm from the chest down.
