I've been a thumb trackball user for over 10 years. M570 &gt; MX Ergo. The MX Ergo is starting to miss clicks and so I'm in the market for something new. I don't want to go with the MX Ergo again because this one only lasted like 3 years and I'm grumpy with Logitech for other reasons. 

I have larger hands, so I've never had thumb issues from the Ergo, and I really like how compact it is because I will carry it around with my laptop at work and use it in meetings and stuff. 

I'm hesitant about Elecom stuff because I have little interest in modding. Any suggestions for moderately portable trackballs that are more reliable than the logitech products? I'm willing to switch to finger.

 The first Trackman Marble, the first editions of the MSFT Optical trackball, and so on. When I see a brand like Sanwa release a trackball, I buy it immediately just in case it's the right size. The first few I purchased lasted for 5+ years but I seem to be replacing them roughly every year now.  I really like my MX ERGO, but at ~$90 think they should be lasting longer.

Does anyone have any suggested alternatives?  I prefer thumb-operated and do some gaming (which I think rules out Kensington due to multi-button support), but at this point willing to try something different.

Higher quality alternatives to Logitech trackballs?

 Not as soft as the M570's. That is also my perception and preference. Many people like to feel the clicks while scrolling. PROS: Very comfortable shape, even for small hands

My current (old) trackball is a Logitech M570, so in the review I will often make comparisons with this device. The Perimice 717 is a very good trackball and a good alternative to the well known Logitech M570 (my current trackball) or their very expensive successor, Ergo MX (tried it, didn't like it). Although my hands are small, that wasn't an issue when tried this device. The shape is quite comfortable

This trackball worked well for a year

 I suspect sometimes that the trackball limits my performance, but then I have an amazing game. I tend to have trouble with lateral tracking at very close range, but I don't know that a regular mouse would actually improve that.

I have been using this controlled trackballs for over twenty years, since the Logitech Trackman was released in the mid ninety's. My existing four computer KVM died and my Microsoft Optical trackball was no longer working with the midst current version of Windows 10i I looked and read and decided I needed a wired unit due to issues with wireless use on my new KVM. Based on reviews I decided to go with the Perixx Perimice 517 wired trackball.  What i like The trackball worked as soon as I plugged it in

  What i don't like The shape. What there is of the trackball did comfortably in the hand. The height is about the same as the two units I am used to. The issue I find is that the back of the trackball slopes steeply to the surface it rests on

Also, other alternatives like the  Kensington Expert Mouse seem to have their own issues (scroll wheel) and looks pretty dated, in my opinion, so I was wondering if yall expect any updated trackball mice to release this year or if I should just fold and get an Ergo/Expert Mouse now, or any other mouse I should consider.
