The Petzl Spirit Express is a classic among sport climbers. It comes with a keylock carabiner on each end and does everything a sport climber could ask for &mdash; clips are fast and snappy, and the rope never snags on the keylock gate. The wide dogbone is made to be grabbed, and we love the way it feels when we do so. It's one of the lightest sport-climbing specific models that we tested, shaving ounces off your harness in a sport where every gram counts.  
However, even with its latest weight loss, it is still not suited for long or alpine routes, so if that's your primary climbing style, check out the Petzl Ange Finesse, or another lightweight model like the Cypher Firefly II instead. For everything else, the Spirit Express is at the top of its class. Just don't loan them out, or you may not get them back!

It should come as no surprise that Petzl’s tried-and-true Spirit comes in at the top of this list. What’s not to like about this Cadillac of a quickdraw? The carabiners are super smooth, the dogbones are stable-feeling, and these things are, quite simply, really fun to clip. All the materials are ridiculously strong and durable, including the rubber grommet that keeps the rope-side carabiner from flipping over. The Spirit is equally easy to stick clip or grab when the good holds run out, and the whole unit is so rigid that you can hold onto the bottom end of the draw and still clip an out-of-reach bolt.

Petzl dropped the price considerably this year (from $25 down to $20), but the Spirit Express remains the same draw that we know and love. It’s ideal for sport climbing, but its weight and bulk mean that it’s not a super versatile draw. In fact, we’d be surprised if a Spirit Express has ever made it into the alpine, and we certainly wouldn’t want to clip it to a direction-dependent nut.  By far the easiest quick draw that i have to clip with so again, if you're pumped or if you're, cruxed out or if you're spooked and you need to clip in really quick um, you can slap it on that on that carabiner and nine times out of Ten you'll you'll get a nice positive clip on that on that flat faced gate and on that little uh little nose right there.  Really quick and it fills up your hand, it's really nice and ergonomic. Another reason why i like it so much is the carabiners here. Both of them are the the key lock nose as you can see there, so there is no snagging at all, which is great again if you're pumped or if you're cruxed out or something like that. If you're trying to clean the route, you can quickly take everything out really quick and i won't snag on anything

 So the gin carabiner is three dollars less than the spirit. So it's a little bit more economical. So you saved a little bit of money, but you sacrifice a little bit of weight when we look at the bent gate side, there's a difference with those carabiners as well. Obviously the size, the weight difference, the cost difference, but there's one subtle difference on the gate and on the spirit

There is a really flat piece, that's kind of carved out so that you have a really positive place to fish against for clipping. So really really really easy to clip, whereas the gin is more of just a classic round bar stock

 That'S a little bit lighter. It'S gon na be a little bit easier to clip a little bit more ergonomic swing. If you're on a bit of a budget, the gin would be a great choice. You could buy them individually or the 6-pack to save you even more money and you're gon na have you know a really functional, easy clipping and handling quick draw or a carabiner

 Opening somebody who is you know, maybe just starting to climb, might find this one just a little bit easier to handle, but at the same time it is a little bit heavier. So for the carabiners, the gin is six grams, heavier than the spirit. Okay. So there's a little bit of a weight difference there and then there's also a cost difference

I own many different sport draws and these are my favorite. The dogbone is a perfect shape and burliness and the spirit biners are just perfect. The long nose and burly rubber retainer make these easy to use and durable.

If you look at any list of the best quickdraws out there, you'd be hard-pressed not to find these at the top for sport climbing.  They're not the lightest out there, but they're durable and ergonomic.
