 It was the best first pellet grill for someone to learn on and I had never cooked on a pellet grill before and I wanted to learn so that the Pit Boss, it just seemed a logical choice. I ran to Walmart and I found the grill in stock and the grill is pretty heavy and it's not something that you're going to be able to load yourself. I had a blue vest from Walmart come and help me from the lawn and garden area and they even helped me into the parking lot to get the grill into the SUV. Now, we had a few assembly problems when it came time to putting this together

 I tried the fix and it just didn't work and they shipped my new legs and new hardware packet out the next day. Once the legs arrived with the new hardware, the rest of the assembly was a breeze. The Austin XL is primarily pre-assembled other than the cart, so once it was time to put together, it was really just time to light it up and get the initial burn in. I followed the directions that had been previously set by others of spraying down the entire interior with PAM cooking spray and setting it to around 300 degrees for a couple of hours

 Now, one of the main differences that you'll see between the Austin XL and the competition is the way they handle setting the temperature. The Pit Boss uses a simple metal dial to set your grilling or smoking temperature. Other brands like the Rektek and certain models of Traeger grills use a digital readout that can be set in 5 degree increments. This is where my major beef comes into play with the Austin XL grill

 Now, if you are good with doing the math in your head and figuring out how much additional time cooking at 250 will add or how much less time cooking at 300 will mean, maybe it's no big deal. But for us, though, there were times, more times than not, that we wanted to set the Austin XL at a temperature it couldn't do because of the limited options on the dial. Wife surprised me with my first pellet grill!

Hello! I am looking to upgrade my grilling space and would like to invest in a pellet grill. My budget is $500, but I am willing to be flexible at up to $600 if the model has everything I want, but I do have to cap it there. 

So far, I have looked at the Pitboss Austin XL and the Pitboss Pro Series 1150. I also have noticed the Oklahoma Joe's 900 which looks intriguing. My ideals specs are I am looking for a large pellet grill with a decent hopper capacity. Something that won't require tons of babying and is ideal for overnight/long cooks, I'm looking for durability, ideally some sort of Wifi connectivity if possible, digital controls, and a sear option. It is really important for me to have a pellet grill with a good flame/sear broil because my gas grill does not work and we don't use the charcoal much. I'd like something that can do all in one- that I can smoke something than finish at a higher heat with a glaze, or grill a good steak on a Summer day. 

If any of you have experience with using one of the above let me know, and of course of more options. Obviously good smoke output/flavor/rings are important to me too.

Looking to invest in a Pellet Grill.

PB700FB1 on sale at Lowes, grabbed one for my son.

I'm looking to replace a Traeger with something else. My first Traeger was amazing, but after I replaced it a few years ago, I've had nothing but problems. 

I'm really leaning towards a Yoder. Difficult to justify the price, but willing if it's the best option.

I used to not be impressed with the Green Mountain Grills I'd seen, but they seem to be built much better than they used to be. I would still prefer to have something a little tougher.

In my opinion, Pit Boss does not seem to be very well built, although I've only seen them in stores. I don't know anyone who owns one.

Recteq seems like a good option, I've just never seen one in person or even know anyone who's seen one.

Please let me know of any pellet smokers I don't know of and your opinions on all of them.
