I'm looking for some nice looking computer speakers with the following requirements:

1. Cost under $100

2. Have a long enough cable between them (or has a cable that can easily be switched out to a longer one). My desk is 1.86cm wide, and I'd like a cable long enough so that there is one speaker at the end of each end

3. I'm not too particular about the sound quality. For reference, I use the Logitech speakers z150 and they sound like decent little speakers too me, but the cable between them isn't long enough

4. Small and has a good look profile. Stand alone speakers without satellite (2.0). I like the look of Audioengine a2+ and Kanto Yu2 but they are too expensive. I also don't mind Bose Companion 2 Series III, but it looks like the cable between them are too short.

Any suggestions?

Recommendations for aesthetic computer speakers that don't cost a fortune

 After initially giving up the Presonus, I decided to tweak the bass and treble levels and man, did that do wonders. Out of the box these do not sound flat, there is a definite V shape to the sound. When I lowered the bass and treble I was honestly shocked that the Eris 3.5s were actually starting to sound nearly as good as the Genelecs when listening to uncompressed music files

 The Presonus, on the other hand, have a slightly exaggerated bass that tends to feel a bit muddy at the default settings. This can be tweaked, which I realized during my next comparison.  Currently I'm working with a pair of Genelec 8030a monitors. When I first A/B these to the Eris 3

I'll keep this one short and sweet.  I had these monitors for about a year and listen to music on them every so often and have used them on for audio mixes for video editing. I had the chance to A/B these against two other pairs of studio monitors since, as a professional tv/film editor, I had a couple rented pairs loaned to me for a couple projects.  Up against the M-Audio BX5s these were my preferred speakers

  Currently I'm working with a pair of Genelec 8030a monitors. When I first A/B these to the Eris 3.5's I have to admit, I immediately was ready to sell these. The Genelecs just sound so good for small studio monitors but you're paying a hell of a lot more

Needs some tweaking but it's a solid performer for the price.

 I like the way they sound, but I didn't realize how much I was going to miss the low end. I love how they can be connected to two inputs (one over Bluetooth) and it'll mix them together. I'm trying to figure out where to go from here.

 Then I found out that some some of my music sounds extremely good on these. I was surprised. So I canceled the return and now trying to figure out if I keep them or not. I am starting to see what people like about these speakers

 I did order RCA to 1/4 cables for it for better audio.  My first response after 1 hour of use was contacting Amazon for a return. Then I found out that some some of my music sounds extremely good on these. I was surprised

 Nothing to write home about. Bass: Lacking. Good enough for most music genres ,but if you're into electronic , you might feel the bass is lacking. It's there, just not the soft wrapping bass you know sound systems with big speakers or 2

 That said:  The bass is kinda thin. Get the subwoofer if you like some "whoom" in your bass. Otherwise, some really incredible sound out of these guys! I'm a gamer, primarily RPGs, but I'm hearing sounds I wasn't even aware were in the games. I've heard the woosh of a lit torch, a high hum of an arrow going past, some really soft sounds of people walking through grass or on sand

Very impressed

I'm coming from a 2.1 system, so anything I have to say about the bass being kind of thin, just remember I'm used to having a subwoofer. That said:  The bass is kinda thin. Get the subwoofer if you like some "whoom" in your bass

I'd get the Promedia 2.1s.

I've had a set since they first came out and they still work fine. I've heard stories of the cable being an issue as well, and as it is proprietary it has always been a bit of a concern. Also heard the amp tends to die. But, yeah, my set still has no issues, so, i don't think the problems are as common as the internets documentation of said problem might lead you to believe. Or i'm stupidly lucky.

A random note - they are in fact what got me into the audiophile world, as they blew away most of the dedicated big component systems I had been exposed to before that point, where each speaker was bigger than my PC.  (though most of them were admittedly from brands like Sony, Panasonic, JVC, etc. so not truly high-fi, just what was available mainstream in the 80s and 90s and more people had.)

Not sure if i can give a more ringing endorsement of them, lol.

I have a 15+ year old set of Promedia 2.1's which I just swapped out on my desk with the Edifier R1280TS's. Understand that the new ProMedias are not the same as the model from 20 years ago. The new ones are more cheaply made and may sound slightly worse. 

So the Edifiers sound good. To my ear, they're not terribly flat. The mids are a bit missing and the highs and lows are a bit much. Turning down the bass and treble helps. They're basically the pop/rock setting on your EQ. They're sturdy speakers and get loud without distortion. The 70-150Hz-ish response sounds a bit amped up to compensate for no sub. The remote is nice. 

My ProMedia's on the other hand, sound more "muddy" but have better mids. They impress more and have thumping low end with that balanced sub. The old ProMedia's still kick it. They're not perfect, but overall I prefer them.

I think you'll be happy with either, TBH.

I’ve been pouring over reviews for new gaming speakers for my PC and I feel like with a budget of $150 or less and minimal desk space, these two speakers are the best options. The only problem with them is the Edifiers may be pushing the limits of what I can fit on my desk, and I’ve heard the Kilpsch speakers don’t hold up too well. I’ve heard a lot of people complain that the cable for the sub tends to come loose and needs to be re-soldered (which I don’t have much experience in). Would anyone be able to comment on the Kilpsch issue, if they’ve every experienced anything like that?

Between the two, which would you recommend?

Kilpsch ProMedia 2.1 or Edifier R1280TS?

  I have the speakers wired to a UPS outputting a true sinusoidal waveform. I have also plugged it into a power conditioner with the same results. The level of the noise is not affected by the volume knob.  It's a shame because the sound is otherwise great

I ended up moving the speakers a little further from me (~3' from my face) and raised them so the tweeter is above my head and it's not so noticeable

Looks 9/10 Materials 7/10 Sound quality 8/10 Bass 7/10 Volume 8/10 Setup 6/10  The sound quality is pretty decent until you go up in volume - it seems a little weak on top and bottom at the highest volume levels. Overall bass is not bad, but not spectacular. I wonder how accurate the sound really is.  The overall appearance and construction look pretty good but the materials aren't particularly high-end
