 So after comparing different models, different options, features that it came with, this is the one we went with and here's why. Take a look. Now one of the first things that really attracted us to the Roof Nest Condor Excel is the short amount of time that it takes to set up the tent. For us it's just under three minutes to set up the tent to where we can crawl in and get to sleep

 Go up, yep. Okay, that's a good stick, yeah, you're not going to touch it, alright. Let's do this.

 Which means we might have a little bit longer distance to walk from one side to the other and we might have a little bit more climbing to do compared to most vehicles. If your vehicle is smaller your setup time will definitely be shorter but even at just under three minutes to get us to sleep we couldn't be happier. Now our roof rack is a Front Runner Slimline II and the mounting hardware that came with the tent fit perfectly around the front runner slats. The tent also conveniently came with a 17 millimeter ratcheting wrench which made the installation even easier

 This big guy is our Condor XL. Unlike our pop-up and clamshell styles, the Condor series folds out, providing generous amounts of interior space relative to its compact size when closed. The Condor XL is our largest capacity tent. It weighs 160 pounds and accommodates most families of four, or various combinations of adults, children, and pets

 Buckle that down, and then there's this bungee strap that tucks everything in as you close it up, which is good, helps a little bit, not tremendously, but any help you can get up here is welcomed. All right, now you just basically give this a yank, pull it down. This takes a few tries. Basically, I just try to get all the air out of the bedding and whatnot up there the first time, and just kind of pull on it

 All right, pretty good. Now tuck these sides in, like so, pull that a little more and get down some more, and then this side, same deal, tuck that in. Pretty good. Now I fold this strap up and tuck it inside with my rope, tuck that in there, and everything's in, now you kind of crank it down

 And be carefully, I feel like this is where things could go wrong, be carefully bend that up like so, and stick it in this metal grommet that they have on the inside of each corner of this awning. But once you get this done, it's really nice to have this awning if it's inclement weather or just to have some shade when you're getting out on the ladder. This is how we set it up. You know, there's never enough space, but we make it work, and yes, there's four of us sleeping here, me, Marla, Colin, and Caden, and yeah, it's been great

 We had no clue what he was talking about, I was like, what is he talking about with the metal bars? I guess we were talking about being windy down on the beach in the Lost Coast and he was adamant about telling you guys about these, but here they are. So they just snap on these struts like so, and that keeps the plastic from collapsing down on you in a big windstorm. We haven't had to use them really. We put them up on the Lost Coast, but we definitely did not need them

While I didn't have the opportunity to fully test because the skies were clear and the weather was balmy, I did want to mention that the Condor as a whole seems pretty weather-resistant. The outer shell is made of ABS plastic with an outside layer of ASA plastic, while the canopy and rainfly consist of a polyurethane-coated polyester and cotton blend with a waterproof rating of 3000mm — about three times the number on a typical backpacking tent.
