5’8” 145lb PNW skier (Whistler, Baker, Steven’s, Crystal). Been riding a pair of old Elans and soul 7s. I have a blast but ready to invest in something wicked. Soul 7s feel hard to throw around. Old Elans don’t quite have the float.

Searching for the unicorn balance of playfulness/responsiveness through trees and float through the heavy pow. Something that ideally performs through crud as well. Is there one ski that might fit this bill? If not, what two might be the perfect combo?

I’ve been using Atomic Vantage 85 for the last few seasons since I was just learning. However, I have been considering getting new skis (not that it’s necessary). Where I ski we get quite a bit of snow so I was wondering what size of ski would work best? I was thinking 100 (+5 or -5) would be a good width underfoot in order to do well in powder but not be too bulky for the rest of the hill. What sizes and more importantly what skis would you recommend? Thanks!

Does anyone know good skis for in-resort but off-piste skiing?

They may not be anything special, but they sure are fun. Opening day is coming soon.

Hey ski gear! Trying to decide what skis to buy. About me: 6’1” 195 athletic background. I’m an advanced skier that takes 2 trips out west per year and might get in one east coast trip. I enjoy the entire mountain but probably bumps the least.  I can go fast and enjoy it but most often find myself wanting to find side hits, small drops (want to get larger drops) and glades and trees.  Trending towards playful all mountain. Love bowls and going off trail but not doing any touring or backcountry.  Might do one or 2 park laps per day but just jumps with some spins. 

Saw a boot fitter in beaver creek this year and got some Salomon S Pro 120s fitted already so now I want to complete the setup.  Want something that is all-mountain for the west but isn’t super burly either. If I can find ways to get it in the air I will.  Also will have some laps with my 2 kids and wife so need something that doesn’t kill me to go a little slower.

Demoed and enjoyed:
- Rustler 9 in JH, 180 cm - fun, with enough edge hold . Could seriously consider buying
- QST 92 in Utah in 185 cm - easy to ski. Would size up to the 99 in 181 if I buy.
- Elan Ripsticks in Beaver Creek in 181 cm

Didn’t enjoy:
- Mantra M5 - they were fine but more directional.  Not good for family skiing.
- head Kore 93 - they were fine but not my favorite. Not playful enough.
- faction 2.0 - too loose and surfy 

I’m leaning towards Rustler 9 or 10 or possibly the Ranger 94 FR.  Could also go with the QST 99.  I’ve read all the blister reviews, watched ski essentials and really just need to pull the trigger.  Want something f that is accessible but has a higher ceiling which is why I’m down to the ones above. I’m leaning towards 90’s underfoot since I can’t really control snow conditions when I take my trips and the rocker in what I like should provide enough float unless it’s just dumping. Any others I should look at. I’ve seen good deals for Sick Day 94, Nomad 95, and Black Crows Camox. I think the enforcer 104 free might be a bit much ski for what I like but open to different opinions.

**Salomon QST Spark** (164cm). 4. Essentially, stuff in the 78-85mm underfoot range, nothing too crazy expensive or heavy/hard to maneuver. I'm still learning and not looking to charge too hard

Looks aren't everything

 Secondly the slight brim on the helmet to me makes the feel more complete when paired with Salomon goggles like the LO FI, just the as a buyer you can clearly see that the fit and finish is there.
