 Hey guys, what's up, it's Jake, today I have a review for you of the Salomon STH2WTR bindings. Now these bindings have a DIN range of 5 to 13, and are generally meant for intermediate or advanced skiers, even really advanced skiers can ride these comfortably with good confidence in their bindings, holding them down to the ski. Now these bindings have a very wide mounting stance, a wide teflon base plate for the toe, and generally solid materials. They're mainly plastic, but it does keep up relatively well with durability, I have them mounted on some fat Icelandic skis that I've been using for powder, I used them out in Utah over February break, and they were really nice, really ripped, and I was really happy with them

 Now these bindings have a very wide mounting stance, a wide teflon base plate for the toe, and generally solid materials. They're mainly plastic, but it does keep up relatively well with durability, I have them mounted on some fat Icelandic skis that I've been using for powder, I used them out in Utah over February break, and they were really nice, really ripped, and I was really happy with them. So other than durability, these are very durable bindings, they have high quality plastic materials, not metal, but that keeps them relatively lightweight, but they aren't as light as you think they are for an all plastic binding. Some features are the WTR is the walk to ride system that allows you to use touring boots with walk base plates that allow you to more comfortably walk on say asphalt or cement

 The difference between this is this is a heavier binding, and it does have a lower mounting stance and a metal heel piece, so you're not going to be breaking your heel piece on this. Other than that, coming back to the Salomon binding, it's relatively fairly priced. Ski bindings these days are very expensive, but you're not going to find a much better binding other than the two I mentioned for really powder and park. So if you have a chance, and the price is right, definitely check it out

Salomon STH2 WTR 13 Ski Binding Review

I recently posted about bindings for my new QST 106 skis, and planned to sell my old ones... but in my search I realized I might be better off repurposing my existing bindings?



My old skis are the Salomon Rocker2... 2018 I think? And it looks like the bindings are the STH 13. I've seen recommendations for the STH2 13... but are these STH or STH2? And how big a difference is that?



The rocker2 are 100mm underfoot while the QST are 106. It seems the existing bindings are 100, I suppose, and it seems they are EXTREMELY tight if not definitely rub when I place my new skis on top.



The rocker2 bases are in great shape, but lots of cuts into the topsheet (oops I cross my skis...). So I'm not sure how much resale value they actually have.



So I think my options are:

- Repurpose these bindings on to the QST 106 and sell the Rocker2 skis bare for whatever I can get for them, even if it's $0.

- Get the Warden 11 for $140 CAD, sell Rocker2 + bindings

- Get the Warden 13 for $209 CAD, sell Rocker2 + bindings



Any advice/thoughts? This is totally out of my area of expertise. For reference I bought the Rocker2 full setup used for I think $250 or $270 CAD pre-pandemic.

Repurpose these STH 13 or new bindings for new ski?

 So with that you're going to get quick response and skiing is going to be that much easier and that much radder. So another great feature that this binding has is a progressive transfer pad. You're going to have increased dampening and it's going to make the ride that much smoother. 2013/2014 Salomon STH² WTR Bindings

Consider the Salomon STH2 13. It has the most elastic travel of any binding on the market so you can essentially set your din lower without risking pre release.

I just got a new set of Line Sick Day 104’s. These will be my powder/trees/bumps/freshies skis. I have another set for groomer/ice days. 

I say I’d fall in the higher end of advanced intermediate, or lower end of expert. 200#, 5’11”. 

My other set has Marker Griffon bindings. I like em. 

But I’m conscious of safety on these given the type of skiing I’ll be doing on them. I used to have Look Pivot bindings on an old set of skis. 

Question would be, is any set of bindings really safer? Do the Look Pivots have a real world advantage there or is it a gimmick?

I don’t really see needing more than 10 DIN for my style of skiing FWIW.

Binding advice, please

 This is a wider platform in general. Skis are getting wider these days, Salomon's taken that into consideration, so the power transmitted when you're transitioning from turn to turn is phenomenal. You're still going to get a nice coupling with the tow of the boot with this binding. It's got an adjustable tow height, just like in the older bindings

Salomon STH2 WTR 13 Ski Binding 2014 Review

 Hey, this is Dylan from The Ski Monster and today we're going to go over how to adjust your Salomon STH ski binding. First we're going to begin with forward pressure. We have a screw on the back of the heel piece and when we engage it we want it to be flush with the housing. Let's start by clicking that in and seeing where we end up

 That's perfect forward pressure. The second step is we're going to adjust the toe height so we make proper contact with the AFD. So we're going to engage our boot again. We're going to give it a tug back to make sure it's seated properly and we're going to take something similar to the thickness of a business card and slide in between the AFD and the sole of the boot

 So I'm going to put this to a 10. So we grab a flathead screwdriver and we're going to turn this clockwise until the line matches to the proper number, which is 10. Simple as that. Now we're going to move to the toe piece

 We have a screw on the back of the heel piece and when we engage it we want it to be flush with the housing. Let's start by clicking that in and seeing where we end up. So we can clearly see the screw is sticking out too far which would indicate that the pressure is too loose. So we need to grab a Phillips head screwdriver and make clockwise rotations until that binding and screw it flush

How to Adjust a Salomon STH Binding

I just got a new pair of Salomon QST 98s and I was looking to buy a pair of bindings for them. I'm stuck between deciding a bunch of them and I would some thoughts from the community. 

I tried reading their reviews online and there aren't any significant differences among them and they are all equally preferred, except people chose because of something simple like the click feel, color or price at the time of buying. 

So, I was wondering how much thought I should put into it since all of them are by reputed companies, well tested and rated. Also, I tried looking up reviews and most of them are old (I'm guessing they don't change much) and sparse. I looked at the Blister review page linked in the wiki and they didn't contain reviews related to Alpine bindings, they were mostly touring bindings. 

I'm leaning towards MNCs and ID bindings because of their wide compatibility, but WTR and GW will also suffice since I'm not going to buy hybrid or touring boots. Any new recommendations are also welcome

 Yeah, my favorite ski is actually my 100 which is much wider than I skied 3 or 4 years ago. Yeah. So, what we're trying to do is address that. You need to get the ski up on edge to maintain the direction you're trying to go

 If you mounted that little narrow bindings in there, it wouldn't give you really much control over the ski. Exactly. So, you know, great shock absorption, holds you in, gives you the confidence when you aren't charging the backcountry but also, you know, gives you that performance when you're on the frontside skiing those firmer conditions as well. So, and it comes in multiple different brake sizes I assume as well
