In the UK the original Nord is the same price for both storage sizes (on Amazon) and it’s a better phone. This model is fairly pointless ... unless you want to pretend you’ve got a Oneplus 9 with no OIS?


No reason not to get the one with OIS, but even at that point an A52 is similar in price with a bit of waterproofing and you know you’ll get software support for a couple years.

The glass back and plastic mid frame is such a weird combo as well

Completely overpriced boring phone. Get a Redmi Note 10 Pro, Poco F3 or Galaxy A52 5G depending on what you prioritize.

I bought this phone last week and  I'll try to reason why (considering the overwhelmingly negative perception of phone on Reddit):


I'd like to preface this by saying I'm in India and same phones have different UI and hence different experiences across countries. My perspective is entirely from Indian phone market and the UIs the companies have in India.

I was looking for a phone with a clean OS, reasonably powerful in day to day tasks and good camera. From past 3 years I had Asus Max Pro M1 (on which Android 10 update was supposed to arrive late 2019, its mid 2021 & they've abandoned it all together.. but that's a different story). My options were the some of he devices mentioned in this thread - Xiaomi Note 10 series, Realme X7 pro Max, Samsung A52 and some IQOO device. Poco F3 and A52 5G have not launched India.

While Note 10 pro max is cheaper (Nord CE cost me ₹22,000) at around ₹19,000, the problem is software. MIUI for all its features has TONS and TONS of ads shoved down your throat every other hour, from its variety of bloatware apps. While MIUI 12.5 was said to decrease the bloatware apps and streamline the OS, the 12.5 MIUI update is significantly different on Indian devices than Chinese and European devices. We have none of the privacy and quality of life features offered with 12.5 but we do have is more bloatware apps - MI Video, MI Music, Moj, Josh, MI browser each with their own individual push ads, ads from MI's own appstore and the biggest snake oil of them all - the security and optimizer app. Even the ultra flagship $800 Mi11x has the same ads as $200 phone! 

The experience is incredibly frustrating - my Mom owns Redmi phone and I've disabled so many things and yet receive couple of push notifications almost daily. So even while Note 10 is cheaper with similar hardware, the OS is downright stupid. 

The only option to have a phone with clean OS experience is Samsung, Oneplus or Pixel. A52 is more expensive at around ₹28k and Pixel 4a is significantly more expensive. 

Now I know Oxygen OS can also be buggy, but I'd rather have bugs in couple of years than be bombarded with ads everyday.

So yes, there might be phones which are cheaper than this, but the question is are you willing to pay ₹3,000 extra for clean Oxygen OS and OnePlus brand name - OnePlus and Samsung brands are still perceived a step above Xiaomi, Poco, Realme, IQOO etc. here. I wanted a clean Oxygen OS experience with a better perceived brand and hence I paid extra.

[The Verge] OnePlus Nord CE 5G review: stripped down, stripped back

 Haven't really used it yet. Just noticed how clear the picture was on the camera app.  The phone is quick and responsive at the moment and I will see how slow it gets with adding new apps and updates down the line.  Depending on how things go over the next hours with the A52 and the battery, I will see if I want to return it, if that's even an option

Galaxy A52 - Expectations Fell a Little Short

As you described I think you should go for Pixel 5 or more affordable Pixel 4a 

Pixel 5 is Google's current flagship but it's way affordable than the other flagships competition provides it has a decent spec and good Display and good battery life and Pixel phone's are known for their camera so you would be fine with it Also it is stock Android so no ads and smooth android experience

And if you want something more affordable than go for Google Pixel 4a it's has almost the same footprint of pixel 5 but uses a less powerful soc and a 60hz screen instead of 90hz screen and don't have a ultrawide camera beside that it's almost the same experience

Next, the software support is for 3 years(android version updates) and also has 4 years of security updates. This gives it longevity. In addition, you really don't miss out on much, it's got a large battery, supports 25watt fast charging, water and dust resistant(IP 68).

Its got 128 gb storage with an option to expand via microsd card.

The processor is enough most daily tasks and some light gaming, if you are a power user than go for a flagship, but considering you were using the A01, its more than enough.

Finally, the camera's really are quite satisfactory. Unless you really care about taking lots of pictures and videos need the best, this should do you fine. The price point of 500 bucks makes this quite the deal as it is far cheaper than a flagship but gives you literally almost everything you need.

Why not Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro? It's an amazing value phone (probabil the best), and on snapdragon processors you can install gcam that gives an amazing boost to the camera.

Honestly any Pixel is good. Pixel 1 has a headphone jack. Pixel 2 is older and thus more affordable, but still powerful and with big storage. Pixel 3 is a little newer and a bit pricier, but it comes with wireless charging option if you like that. I don't know much about pixel 4 or 5 because they're too new for me, too $$$.

I was searching a phone in just a notch above a '' just okay'' phone. I was settled after many weeks of searching on a Samsung s20 FE 5g, but a seller convinced me into taking the Oppo find x3 Neo and I got to say it's a really good phone, 16gb ram, nice. Photos, 256 gb storage, dash charge, nice 90hz screen... I considered a Pixel 5 as well but it's only benefit would have been the photos (although completion are really not far behind, or event on the same spot) but for too much spec reduction

I paid full boat for my Galaxy S10 Plus. I needed a second phone for delivering food has gig work. Found the *a51 Galaxy refurb* at around $400. Very happy, expandable memory, decent camera. Battery life okay when working but you need to manage brightness. Downside is that Bixby assistant crap they shove down your throat. Just ignore it and use Google Assistant if you want voice-driven commands. Also, three keys only on the upper right corner. Careful bottom key is Bixby crap so you can reconfigure so it doesn't bug you. Still that one bottom key has different features for a single press, long press, and double press. I use the a51 heavy everyday and really haven't had an issue with multiapp or performance yet.

I just bought a moto g stylus after only using Samsung notes, it's a bit of a downgrade, but not by much. I'm loving it so far, and the features my moto doesn't have that my note did I don't seem to actually use.

Because I am an amazing human I managed to have my s20+ meet my lawn mower blades. So I wandered into Walmart and grabbed a galaxy A01. It has made me rethink what I actually need in a phone. For years I would buy the new iPhone because that's what you do. Then I switched to Android a few years ago and stuck with the flagship type phone. 
After a couple days on this A01 I now think maybe I do not need such a high end phone. Problem is, I don't know what I 'need'. I think I probably would like a better camera and more storage. 
So any suggestions on a 'pretty okay' phone? I'm not afraid of paying decent money for a phone but I just don't know if buying another s20 or 21 is what makes sense for me.

Murdered my phone- need suggestions

 It does seem to hold up to being kicked off the counter on to the hardwood floor by the cats multiple times, so, it is a bit rugged, which is a must for me as I am a 220 pound gorilla.

 The speed of the hotspot is also quite a bit slower than my old Huawei. This brings me to the battery life. As much as it's hyped, it isn't even as good as my old Huawei at the end of it's life span. It'll last me no more than a single day of standard web, text and phone calls

 It disconnects about every 10 minutes. I think it's trying to save its battery but it is really frustrating and I take 1 and a half stars off for that. The speed of the hotspot is also quite a bit slower than my old Huawei. This brings me to the battery life

No contest the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G is a beast for $399, gorgeous 120hz Oled screen, great main camera, insane battery life and great performance along with 4 years of updates.

Google Pixel 4a 5g, Samsung A71, and Samsung S10e all good choices. Samsung S20 fe is good if it has a jack (not sure on the details on that one.)
