 now. Admittedly, it is tough to get excited about a camera that's almost the same as the one on a phone I ditched a few months ago. But this has one important perk over the S20 Ultra in that the camera feels lighter, faster shutter speed, quicker, less janky zooming, and way faster focusing thanks to the new laser autofocus module. Not perfect focusing still, but far better

So this is the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. I've loaded it up with applications, I've tested its thermals, it's battery, even accidentally, it's strength. I've taken 435 photos with this camera, so here's what I think. I still remember picking the phone up for the first time just a few weeks ago and thinking they've done it

 otherwise you're kind of looking at a different phone. So the issue that brings to us here in the Uk is that the Exynos chip we get is not particularly battery efficient day to day. I did feel like it was lasting a little longer than my S20 Ultra did. but just to make sure I did do a side by side with a brand new Exynos S20 Ultra

 I set both phones to equal brightness and just cycled through applications. And I mean the note was a head, but very slightly. literally one percentage point. So the battery life is good, not great

 literally one percentage point. So the battery life is good, not great. Then again, from what I've seen from my friends in the Us, the Note 20 Ultra over there can last up to an hour more of screen on time. The charging speed is fine, but does slow to a crawl as the battery is nearly full

I agree with him, overall great phones there! 

But strange to have a OnePlus 8 Pro as his (almost) daily phone, but no award at all. Still glad to have a runner up phone haha. Ok, maybe I'm a bit bias now...

I totally agree with all the picks, especially the Note 20 Ultra best design award. I wish the regular 20 had a metal build and 120hz because the size is perfect, the Ultra is too big for me. But yeah I love the box design, tiny bezels and finish on the back.

The only thing I disagree is the best big phone. Xiami mi  10 ultra is good, don't get me wrong, but Note 20 ultra offers some more stuff, plus, the xiaomi in only available in china, so what's the point in giving it an award if you can't buy it

I agree with most of his options except the big phone category. 

I’m sorry, what? The Mi 10 ultra as the best big phone? Uhmmm... I mean all it has to offer are big numbers on paper and hey, it’s running MIUI which I have a horrible experience with. 

If I recall correctly, the big phone award is supposed to be given to the device which makes the best use of its large size to give the user a good experience. The mi 10 ultra is just a regular  big smartphone with eye catching specs on paper and nothing more. 

Now had he given the award to the ROG phone 3. I would still understand as it has great sounding dual speakers and a big screen for unparalleled gaming experience. 

If he gave it to note 20 ultra, that would be most fitting IMO. It has a big screen that users can fully take advantage of with the S-pen. Notes are productivity powerhouses after all.

[MKBHD] Smartphone Awards 2020!

 Hotspot is just downright awful. Battery life is sub par. Fast charging is much slower than what I had. Camera doesn't quite compare to my old phone's Leica camera, which I figured it wouldn't

 He tested it against his Note 20 Ultra and his phone ended up being twice as fast as mine running the same speed test, on the same network, on the same unlimited plan... all after my device took an additional 10-15 sec to connect before even starting the test

  I've been using this phone for a few days now and it is soooooo slow. Apps and Google searches take way too long to load. Hotspot is just downright awful. Battery life is sub par

  My advice, don't waste your money. Just because Samsung markets like crazy doesn't mean their phones are any good. For a flagship device and the price point, this phone falls well short of being worth it. I came from a two year old Huawei Mate 20 Pro and it's sad that Samsung can't make a phone that is able to compete with it

 I know newer Samsung phones also have pro video mode now, but the ability to be able to record say from bluetooth microphones and have that audio on your track as well as the new update that brings me multi mic connectivity. so recording from a bluetooth headset say for example and the phone mic itself is so good. [Music] Now for some underrated features that I've really come to love over the past year. the first is split screen mode

 I'm definitely hanging on to this as long as possible. As I said at the start of the video, I've got a newfound appreciation for this phone, not only because we are going to potentially be waiting yet another year for another note, but it also has a lot of features that Samsung has started to phase out on its phones and it still performs as good as it did on day one in 2020. As always, I would love to hear your thoughts. Let me know in the comments below, maybe you've had the note 20 ultra As long as me, potentially you're looking at upgrading to the note or you're just thinking that oh, Samsung might not have a new note and you want to sound off about that?  I shoot a lot of video on this phone as I mentioned, primarily 4k at 30 and 60 frames a second, and pro video mode is one of those things that I didn't realize how much I needed it until I got it. I use that all the time on this phone. I know newer Samsung phones also have pro video mode now, but the ability to be able to record say from bluetooth microphones and have that audio on your track as well as the new update that brings me multi mic connectivity. so recording from a bluetooth headset say for example and the phone mic itself is so good

Now I kind of feel like this gives me more of the foldable experience without necessarily needing to upgrade my phone or have the form factor of a folding phone. And the actual physical size of the screen means that things like when I'm watching a video, the whole punch camera doesn't get in the way even if the video is got a really wide aspect ratio and that's what makes watching movies on this device really pleasant

Galaxy Note 20 Ultra review: 1 year later

 So I'm back to the Samsung Note series.  So far, this phone has been solid - all normal capabilities work well. It has a strong Bluetooth signal compared with my pixel. It has good mobile internet - where most phones (including my old google phones) have spotty internet in my area, this phone manages to pick up a surprisingly consistent signal

Just a solid phone all around

 There's wireless charging that's here. Reverse wireless charging is here. There's Ip68, water resistance. All the stuff we kind of take for granted to be in a Samsung Flagship but it is all here Again, just no headphone jack

 And so for those people, yeah, this is it. I Can make this like a an hour and a half long video if I tried to cover all of the features buried in Samsung software because they absolutely pack this phone to the gills. The Edge Lighting the secure folder, the wireless music, sharing the air actions, the reverse wireless charging the wireless Dex is super impressive. even Bixby routines Bixby I mean I found There's always something buried in here that you've either never heard about or maybe you knew about it but just didn't use it because Samsung errors on the side of shoving in too many features instead of the other way around like trying to keep it super simple and leaving things out that aren't perfect
