The Samsung QN50QN90AAFXZA is the best 50 inch TV with an LED panel. If you're worried about the permanent burn-in risk associated with OLED displays, LED TVs appear to be immune to it, so you can leave it on your channel all day and not have to worry about damaging the screen. We tested the 55 inch variant of this TV, and the results are also valid for the 50 inch version, but the 50 inch model doesn't have wide-angle viewing technology like the larger sizes.

Although LED TVs don't have the same near-infinite contrast as OLEDs, it still performs well in bright and dark environments. Its VA panel has a high contrast ratio, and combined with its Mini LED local dimming feature, it displays deep blacks with minimal blooming around bright objects. Even in a well-lit room, glare won't be an issue because it has fantastic reflection handling and exceptional peak brightness. If you tend to watch HDR movies, you'll appreciate the wide color gamut and the high peak brightness in HDR, enough to make highlights pop, but it doesn't support Dolby Vision.

Sadly, our unit has some uniformity issues that could get distracting during sports, like the dirty screen effect. It also has many gaming features like VRR support and HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, but its local dimming performs worse in Game Mode. If that isn't an issue for you, it's one of the best TVs available in this size.

Gaming features are one of the QN90A's strong points. All four of its HDMI inputs are compatible with variable refresh rate, including AMD's FreeSync and standard VRR formats, as well as ALLM (aka Auto Game Mode), which lets it automatically switch to game mode to reduce input lag when it detects you're playing a game. Only Input 3 handles eARC.Input 4, which is conveniently marked with a little game controller icon, also accepts 4K/120Hz with and without HDR

 This issue in Dynamic mode isn't a huge deal for me, however, because I don't recommend using that mode anyway.Samsung's light-rejecting screen is the best in the business, maintaining contrast and punch in bright lighting, and reducing reflections, better than the Vizio and the LG. The screen, combined with the QN90A's prodigious light output, make it the best TV I've ever tested for bright rooms.      The Samsung's screen was excellent at rejecting reflections

 And like most TVs, you can also pair the QN90A with separate Alexa or Google speakers.Samsung's health app debuted on its TVs in 2020&nbsp;and this year it's expanding to offer guided personal training. Plug in an optional webcam (Samsung has a list of recommended cameras, all by Logitech) and the app will track your exercises and give you coaching complete with celebrity personal trainers like Jillian Michaels.You can also use that webcam for video chat with the Google Duo app, which allows up to 12 others to join the chat

Samsung's remote is one of my favorites to use, with minimal buttons and just the right feel in-hand. Channel and volume keys click up and down, Ambient mode gets its own button as does the mic for voice and even the Netflix and Amazon app shortcut keys are nicer than on other remotes: They lack garish colors and instead just match the rest of the wand.Ambient mode is designed to show stuff on the screen when you're not watching TV. It's a cool feature if you don't like the big black rectangle of an inert TV and can display your photos, designer art, the weather, headlines and even adjust backgrounds to match your wall

 The remote is easy enough to navigate to what you want.  Initial setup was very easy and basically plug-and-play. There are eight screws for the display stand, all the same size. This model is on the heavier side

 It's really bright. (Or can be with the right settings.)  The remote control is very minimalistic and small compared to my previous remote. It takes some getting used to

Excellent HDR but rainbow type reflection issues

 It's bright, has rich colors and contrast, very good black levels, all the bells and whistles you can hope for. So why am I give this only 3 stars, you ask? Let me explain..

Why do you do this, Samsung?

  This "SMART" TV is like a whiny child with all of the 3rd party clutter. Always needing something or requiring you to search through oddly named menus to do even the simplest things.  If you are just looking to turn a TV on and just watch it. You'll probably be as frustrated as I was with the home screen

 I'm sure SAMSUNG wants us to see the adverts (Why does a TV cost this much when it's being used as a billboard for SAMSUNG client Adverts?) so if you get one of these they don't make turning the Home Screen off intuitive. YouTube has several others who feel as I do about the Home Screen who can show you how to turn this brain melting clutter off. I probably should wait a bit before I type this out. But my frustrations are fresh, so here we go.  For the price, I'm not happy.  No Digital Sound Output from the TV: Setup and connected sound bar via fiber

 One for the Splitter and now I have to use the sound bar remote for volume. I was really hoping I could just use the TV remote as advertised. Oh well.  btw, I HATE the home screen, stays on forever when you turn the TV on
