Go ahead. Do things with Valhalla 2 that you’d never attempt with other OTL tube amps. Run low-impedance headphones. Use IEMs. Valhalla 2 is a complete re-imagining of Valhalla, with improved performance, higher output capability, lower distortion and output impedance.

 So what i did is i used both of these headphones with the asgard 3 and the valhalla 2, both in high and low gain mode, and i took some notes about my impressions with both pairs of headphones. Now, to start with the valhalla 2 and the high impedance hd6 xxs, similar to how my experience with sennheiser's high impedance hd 800's, were it drove them very, very well, i mean much better than say a 300 amp would suggest it's definitely a distinct step up from The asgard 3. now it wasn't dramatically so much, but i was noticeably better drive with these high impedance headphones coming from the valhalla 2.

 It means that the control of the driver is going to be very poor, and this is very noticeable. So if i plug these sundaras into the valhalla in high gain mode, you can hear the bases all over the place. It'S distinctly distorted unmistakably, so so they, the valhalla 2, will not drive these kinds of headphones in high gain mode. Now

 So you can change the flavor of the amp a little bit and the stock tubes are basically decent, but to get a little bit higher quality sound, you can go out and get a pair of tubes for them, which will probably sound a bit better. Now the thing about that is, if you're buying an amp which you have to change both tubes at the same time, is that you have to buy a matched pair, because each individual tube will have a little bit of variance. The tube sellers will match up pairs using a tube tester so that you don't end up liking it with a channel imbalance or some other issue like that. So the problem with rolling tubes in tube amps, which have two tubes, is the match pair issue

Schiit Valhalla 2 or Asgard 3 -- Which should you buy?

* ATH-M50X - Really enjoyed the lower end on these and the comfort after swapping in velour pads.

* Sennhesier HD700 - Really comfortable and I have no problem wearing them all day. Great soundstage but the treble is really shrill and listening to music on them too long is fatiguing.

My wife and I share an office when we work from home, so it doesn't make sense to have open backed headphones anymore. I currently use Sennheiser HD700s. I'm not particularly found of the upper end on these headphones for music but they've been great for gaming. I'm looking for something with a similar sound stage but more balanced and of course closed back

 The real competition is between the Valhalla and the Audio GD NFB-1. The best way for me to describe the difference between the two is vinyl vs SACD, but minus the pops and cracks. The Valhalla simply cannot match the NFB-1 for clarity and detail. It’s not even close

  Methodology I compared this amp with a few other amps: Beyerdynamic A20, Teac UD-301, and Audio GD NFB-1. I used these solely with Beyerdynamic T1 V2 (600 ohm) headphones on a variety of music, mostly 24-192 files ripped from SACD and played through Foobar2000. For those who don’t know, the T1 V2 can be a little sibilant, but it’s a tradeoff I make for their clarity and all-around sound. I gain-matched the amplifiers using white noise and an SPL phone app

 All amps were fed through the DAC in the Teac UD-301. I also switched out the stock tubes in the Valhalla with some JJ tubes at one point.  Results There is no competition between the Valhalla 2 and Teac or the Beyerdynamic A20. It beats those easily for sound quality

A fantastic little amp, but ultimately not for me...

 Kxp is a radio station out in California Oregon and they do amazing. Live live, show recordings. So look up Gary Clark, jr. numb KEXP and the YouTube rips that I'm about to like I'm hearing where it is slightly off-center and get me in whether the actual recording that is garbage, I'd, monitor and mix on the thoughts they always

 This box got an edge to the very top of it. I shall puts on the low game appropriate. It sounds appropriate which one's better Zeos stop asking that question, which one's better it doesn't doesn't apply to like 98 % of things, this particular song, but this particular set of headphones. Comparing this to this particular amp, where actually those two amps, I listen to Bach on the tube, but if I get up to something, that's a little more modern

 So just think about that. Just think about that [ __, ] a little the low end. It'S the changes to the sound or appreciate it they're, not bit, not nothing. I'Ve plugged in my blog other things into this odd see nothing comes out of it

 So the fact that they're hard to power means you're going to get a little more benefit from a I'm going to have this up at halfway. Double isn't: music! Let'S try something a little bit easier easier to drive what to do to do to goddamn four pins. Should change wires for the review I'm going to plug it in somehow Class A, and I could tell you this between these two listening to Bach concerto number, one in F major three third set. I don't know how to read the classical music like titles

Z Review - Valhalla 2 (A Schiity Tube Amp)

Currently re-visiting this album on my HD800sdr&gt;rolled Valhalla 2/Modi 3&gt;Macbook Pro&gt;VLC player rig, and its like Jack and Meg are recording here in the room with me.

 The little bits of amp feedback in Seven Nation Army is syrupy and rad. The quality of Jack's tone across the board becomes extremely apparent here, and I get why he wanted stripped down/simple drums because fella doesn't need any help making great noise.

The detail in instrument separation is amazing. The soundstage is a real room--its not 'huge' its exactly the size of the recording space. The little bits of amp feedback in Seven Nation Army is syrupy and rad. The quality of Jack's tone across the board becomes extremely apparent here, and I get why he wanted stripped down/simple drums because fella doesn't need any help making great noise

I'm not linking to anything, as this one should be heard on the best quality possible. Its one of my best sounding LP's, and my FLAC version is insanely good.

 Mid range is smooth not too forward and bring my planar's to life (Audeze LCD 3's) in a way any of my solid states can. Bass is also smooth but does not lack the range to produce punchy deep beats on faster tracks. Overall extremely versatile unit which I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. I have been through a lot of trial and error with hifi, did a lot of research and it paid off

Entry level, endgame...Holy Schiit

 They're a bit of the black sheep here in this collection, and I don't get to use them as much as I'd like, but when I'm looking for some variety, they're my go to plugged to the RME ADI-2 for that EQ goodness.

 bugs me, when I wear them. Not sure if "flat" is the best way to describe it, but they're just not that exciting to me. I'm hoping to replace them with a Focal Celestee for my closed-back needs.

Here's my collection of headphones, so far. [I posted my DAC/AMP setup earlier this week](https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/l9qfmk/my_endgame_setup_perhaps_nowhere_to_go_from_here/), and here's what I got for ***cans***. Hope you guys/gals like it.

**Senn + DROP HD6XX:** Pretty much my "daily driver" for Zoom meetings and listening to music while working. I have it pretty much hooked up to the iFi Zen DAC + Zen CAN all the time, with the suggested "tweaks" turned on - both xBass and 3D Sound. It sounds very good on that setup, and it's my go-to for everyday. I like it a lot, and I don't have problems with the mid-to-upper range like some people do (piercing sound, or anything like that).

**Focal Elex:** I got lucky and these are working just fine for me from DROP (despite all the quality problems reported by many customers). I absolutely love them - they sound great, with great punch on the lower range, and as far as dynamics go, they're my first choice for rock, pop, indie, etc. I enjoy its sound for games, but it's mostly my main driver for music. Most of the time, they're hooked up to the RME ADI-2 + THX 789, but I often give them a listen plugged to the Valhalla 2, which adds a lot of warmth to the sound.

**DT 177x GO:** My go-to for evening listening when I can't afford to bother the kid or my wife. I really like the way these sound, even though I'm not in love with it. I tried a bunch of different pads on them, and ended up settling on the leather ones - the velour ones were incredibly hot. I tried the XL perforated ones, and they were pretty uncomfortable. They are so easy to drive that I basically plug them to whatever is available. There's just something that... bugs me, when I wear them. Not sure if "flat" is the best way to describe it, but they're just not that exciting to me. I'm hoping to replace them with a Focal Celestee for my closed-back needs.

**HiFiMan Ananda:** I'm a big fan of planars - I had an old HE400S (since gifted to a friend), and decide to skip the Sundara, going directly for the next step up. The Arya was a bit out of budget, so I settled for the next best option, and I absolutely love these. It's my planar alternative to the Elex for music listening, specially jazz, classical, and other genres. I love the soundstage and imaging. I really dislike it for games, though - it's way too bright. Pretty much plugged to my RME ADI-2 + THX 789 whenever I use them.

**HD 800S:** The big boy, amazing for games, amazing for music. Enough said, they sound quite different from my other top two headphones in my collection (the Elex and the Ananda). They're extremely comfortable, to the point of being too loose. I plug them into the RME ADI-2 directly, which has plenty of power, and sometimes I switch to the Valhalla 2, which really changes things. Love these, and whenever I go for long listening sessions (1h+), I go for them.

**Aeon Open X:** For my tastes, they require quite a bit of EQ. They're... pretty good, not amazing. One thing of note, though: they are very comfortable, and while a bit bulky, with some EQ they sound very good. They're a bit of the black sheep here in this collection, and I don't get to use them as much as I'd like, but when I'm looking for some variety, they're my go to plugged to the RME ADI-2 for that EQ goodness.

What I did really like about them is the imaging - it was a substantial upgrade to my other cheaper headphones (including the POS Sony PS5 Pulse headphones, which sound horrible) for games. More testing is needed, though. Always hooked up to my Schiit Fulla.

So, there it is. Next step is going to be the **Focal Celestee**, and then... I don't know, I think I'm done. Or at least I'm hoping. :)

My collection, from gaming headsets to the high(er) end - dunno what's next

Terrific detail with a neutral tube warmth. It’s easily accessible to roll different tubes if you’d like. I use mine mainly as a preamp feeding a stereo power amp to my main stereo speakers, it it’s an excellent headset amp by itself. American made with a 5 year warranty

 The sound is warm and the bass can really boom when bass boost is on. For a relatively inexpensive setup, I couldn't be happier.

Fell down the headphone audiophile rabbit hole at the beginning of this year. I'm in love with my home setup with the 650s, Schiit Modius, and Schiit Valhalla 2. Today I completed my work setup with the ifi Zen Dac V2 and 58x and couldn't be happier. I have yet to compare the 58x with the 650 on the same gear but what I do know is that this combo sounds great, and it's exactly what I was wanting for office listening

Moment of Zen with the iFi Zen Dac V2

 Working from home I’m constantly in meetings and listening to music in between. I had a portable Mojo - which I love - but I was a bit tired of switching back and forth so I did some research for a reasonably priced Amp and the Valhalla kept coming up. Very pleased with the sound and ease of use.

I have the Valhalla 2 connected to my MacBook using the Schitt DAC. The sound is amazing. Working from home I’m constantly in meetings and listening to music in between. I had a portable Mojo - which I love - but I was a bit tired of switching back and forth so I did some research for a reasonably priced Amp and the Valhalla kept coming up
