Survival On Purpose

 These are everyday carry options. For me. I like to just collect these things i enjoy them. I like to collect them at a reasonable price

 This is a tanto knife. It is absolutely phenomenal. This blade has a great thickness high carbon steel. It'S got this stone, wash finish, which i really love

 Dark colored, blades schrade has satisfied that for me in many ways i shop a lot of knives all over different sites, and i see you know a lot of custom made knives that are probably made with you know higher grade steel that have a very exotic attractive. Look but the price is just above and beyond what i'm willing to pay for an everyday carry blade, especially something that's going to be on my side, primarily as a defense weapon. I'Ve also told you before that. If i pay too much for a knife, i just i don't want to use it at all

Schrade Fixed Blade Knives

The sheath on this knife is ok but why did tayler not sew the Band to the top of the pouch?it's like pulling on a rubber band . the top were the velcro is, leave the bands on the side four tension to me this is simple, the plastic pouch the knife goes in I don't like this type of pouches because trying to get your knife into the pouch in a hurry is cumbersome if you need a free hand, then It can go behind the plastic a little more thought would be great.(about the knife) the blade grind was off on one side so the machinists caught this at the tip and tryed to correct this,now it has a tip with two beveles,questionable hardness when i was sharpening the blade i noticed hard spots on the edge that i almost couldn't sharpen with diamond hone makes you wonder,the jimping on the top should be moved by 3 towards the spine so that your thumb is in contact more for less slippage,all in all a good knife for survival, thickness for battoning is great i don't. Think taylor ever FEILD TESTED this product,ok preppers the big question could you bet your life on this rig "YES" to many companies take survival as just another product for wanna be bear grylls ive been a survivalist for 33yrs my gear means life or death you decide!

 It'S got a Ferro rod, loop holder, which the Ferro rod does come with the knife, along with a sharpening stone. The stock sheet on this thing by the way is like a nylon sheath very soon, or this with a pouch on front that has a sharpening stone and the ferrule right in it, and then this is the is 1095 steel. This is a micarta version, there's also a TP II version. Seven inch blade a 13 inch overall length

 This sheath is made for me by tactical out in Texas. That'S a very nice correct, sheath, with a tech lock on the back of it. 5 Favorite Schrade Fixed Blade Knives

The powder coating sucks. Its a sandpaper texture that gets nasty, wears at the bevel relief, and makes the jimping freaking sharp.

 I think most folks like the forward finger choil that is missing on the 38. I prefer the extra blade length, but it would be nice to see them fix the flaws in this blade with a 2016 update. If you're looking at this one vs the 37/38 i would suggest looking at the 51/52 after the price drops when Amazon makes it an instock prime item. I put this knife to work

 Some cord wood, some dead fall. I pretty much use it just for that now. I am modding it so i can use it comfortably for finer tasks, but i just use my mora for that stuff.

Schrade recently developed the 51 and 52 for 2016 to replace the 36 and 37. They did not include the 38 in their redesign. I think most folks like the forward finger choil that is missing on the 38. CONS: Powder coat texture makes dust and sap stick to the blade and makes it hard to clean

The knife is excellent and will take a beating (Look up Bryan from survival on purpose on YT). I used it to chop smaller trees/branches and it will split wood like a champ as well.

 Strap on sheath is in a bad location. Everytime I draw the knife or sheath it it slices a bit into the strap. Moving the strap up higher on the handle would help resolve this issue

The blade is covered in Schrade's powder coated texture which i am not a fan off. The texture makes it a pain to clean the knife and dirt and other dust sticks to the blade unecessarily. I understand why they do it but i really wish they would goto the flat paint like they have on their SCHF30 (Which I also own)

Excellent knife for the outdoors and your bugout bag at a very affordable price

 My SCHF9 is great but i am not a huge fan of recurved blades as they are a pain to sharpen with a regular flat stone.  The knife is excellent and will take a beating (Look up Bryan from survival on purpose on YT). I used it to chop smaller trees/branches and it will split wood like a champ as well.  Be aware that it has very agressive jimping for the thump on top and on the bottom rear of the handle

A knife, sharpening stone and fire steel....A good bargain!

 The blade of this knife is thick and I have found that it will hold up to some heavy use but I DO NOT use my knives to "baton" firewood other than some really light kindling. I carry a small hatchet or a belt hawk for splitting bigger diameter wood for my fires and if it is to big, I use a small pole ax. The handles are a little flat for my preferences but they index well and feel a little rubbery to me but that is good as I haven't had one of the knives slip in my hand yet.

Sharpening the edge to a field sharp utility edge is relatively easy with good quality stones and the knife holds the edge profile that I use for quite a while.

. The first thing that I do when I get one of these Schrade knives in is to take a fine grit emery cloth and remove the rough textured crud that they are coating their knives with now. I find this coating totally useless and a hindrance to cleaning the blade. Also the blade has a nice blued appearance once the rough texture is removed

 The heft of the knife (nearly 14 Oz.), the non-slip TPE handle slabs and grip jimping make for a heavy duty field knife with a serious grip. I do most of my hiking in the Arizona desert in the winter and spring. I'm anxious to see what this knife can do when winter comes

 The blade is 6 inches long, 1/4" thick and 1.5" wide. It has a small ricasso and is tapered and pointed. The knife is described as having a "drop point", however, the spine of the blade curves down only to about 3/4" from the tip where it noticeably straightens out

A Serious Outdoor and Survival Knife

 Under it is some hard plastic material. So I'll have to fashion some new scales for it also. The diamond sharpening pad is not flat you can see how it gaps up and rocks when placed on a flat surface.  The blade itself seems to be hard

  The blade is very thick and heavy so many it would make a good axe.  The ferro rod seems to be good and the striker with it provides good sparks but the striker is about 4mm thick and very heavy.  Update  Reshaped handle since I had to make new scales for it and removed the ribbing and some of the curves and made it a more traditional shape.  Striped off the paint on the blade and found that the hollow grind does not go all the way to the top of the point

Guess now it will end up with a false edge above the point to hide this
