 It's designed to be able to sleep with layers on inside of it. So they've made it a little bit wider in that case than the spark one and two. I believe it's 61 inches total width that you get for that girth so you can wear parka or the nice down jacket on the inside to increase that temperature rating to take it down into three and a half for season temperatures depending on how cold your trips might be and in such that way. I like the shape of the foot box

 And I've been comfortable down to 15, 16 degrees overnight. Most comfortable down into low 20s. And that's just the nature of how sleeping bags are rated. They give you a survival rating and then you're going to want to add 10 to 15 degrees to ensure that you are most comfortable when you're out with that bag in those temperatures

 So the 4 being a 5 degree rated bag makes it the warmest bag in the line, but that is going to be a survival rating, not necessarily your comfort rating. And so I've had this down into the teens and sleeping in just long underwear and a synthetic jacket like this one that I'm wearing right now. And I've been comfortable down to 15, 16 degrees overnight. Most comfortable down into low 20s

Bought this degree rating for weight conservation for multiple 3 day guides and 8 day loops in the upper Northeast US region. Has been tested during 40* degree highs with lower temps dipping around 7* degrees at night (real feel Neg -7 to -12).

REAL TEST (18* Long) Overall...Not too shabby at all

This review is for the 5F (Spark IV) regular size bag. I am 5'8" ca. 155 lbs female, the size is perfect. I love how small and light this bag packs for the warmth

 The coldest temperature I used this bag was around 20-25F and I needed to use the reactor liner plus full clothing to feel comfortably warm. Also, I needed to purchase an extra insulated sleeping mat because I felt cold from below on the first trip. Overall, I love the bag but one thing is certain, I would not want to use it in temps below 20F or without the liner.

Ultralight but not ultrawarm

 It packs away extremely small and it’s insulation ability is as rated. The only thing I’d change is on those nights where it takes a while to cool down I like to stick my feet out of the bag to vent some heat. The zipper only opens the bag part way. But other than that I really don’t want to start lugging my winter bag
