 I think it has to be relatively straight, and mostly it has to be a small knife, because if it's a big knife I mean, if it's a big knife like this one, I don't know man I mean this is not even this is not even touching the Surface of the box now, so I think it's only for small knives that just protrude slightly out outside the plastic here. So since I'm going to be shopping, some kitchen knives today, which I needed to do anyway - I'm gon na use the I'll go for the blue. One because yeah, the other one is eight thousand grit and three thousand Greeks. It'S for things that are already quite sharp and I think those kitchen knives haven't been taken care of in a while and I'm gon na go for this one which is like compromised it

 I got the sharpener today and immediately set to work sharpening all of our knives. I had watched two YT videos so felt comfortable on how to use the sharpener right out of the box. Had the tomato ready for testing. Impact of the sharpener was immediate

 Also, make sure you dry everything well before storing again as the wooden holder will mildew (that was not a pleasant clean up). But overall, a good value for keeping your kitchen knives about as sharp as they can be.

Good budget option

This is a good choice for households and small kitchens, it does the job for the price you spend. Yes there are top of the line fancy stones out there with the huge price tag, but I don't think it make any financial sense to spend that much and use it maybe every other month. Expensive stones just have a longer life if you don't have to use it more than twice a month, then this one last you a few years and meanwhile you get to learn much more.
