Shure SM7B

Our new Shure SM7B doesn't sound nearly as good and I think cost $400, but it is super good at blocking off background noise. That's the only thing it is good at. I know it is famous since Michael Jackson liked it, but I think he liked it for its distortion. Why can't we make decent microphones for a reasonable price?

TLDR; shure SM7B sounds like shit with my low voice, perhaps an EV RE20 would be better, but my expectations are off. Thanks for your time I assume someone is probably going to need to hear a recording so I will try to get something up today.

I bought a shure sm7b, but found it to pick up all the sounds around me, and would rather get something that isn't picking up ambient noise in the room. I appreciate your help.

Both these mics are very good quality for the price and versatile. I have the NT1A and used it as a vocal mic, but it really shines through for me as a room mic (to capture reflections/ambience). That being said, if you're recording rap vocals, a dynamic cardioid microphone like the Shure SM7B or the Electrovoice RE20 (which I have) are better suited for the genre since they do a good job with loud volumes and an excellent proximity effect.

The headset is bulky, feels like cheap plastic, and creaks whenever I put it on or take it off. I want something new.
