Went into my local Guitar Center the other day and found a used Sire Marcus Miller V7 for $420. I'd never heard of it but holy hell it rocked. By far the best sub $1k bass I've ever played.

Was looking for something more trebly and melodic than my Precision. Went to the store, tried some basses. Didn't know much about the Marcus Miller Sire basses, but fell in love immediately. The guy at the store even said "I could tell you liked that one", because I was jamming on it for quite some time haha.

Biggest disappointments and surprise likes for basses?

It's easy to play and the guy who sold it to me played both the Sire and a Fender jazz bass in direct comparison. He told me he'd keep the V7 but he wants to get another Fender jazz bass because it has the "right" headstock print.

My main and only bass for the past 5 years has been a first gen Sire V7 which I think is pretty great. The few problems I do have with it like its heavy weight and glossy neck look to be rectified with the P5. I've never played a Fender bass but I have a Player Series Tele and I love it - super solid guitar. I feel the Fender would be the safer, albeit more expensive option, but I'm curious about the quality gap between the two.
