 The TV also struggles with properly displaying a 1440p image, but it does fine with 1080p or 4K. It's capable of 120Hz, but only with a 1080p signal. Doing so at 1440p causes it to skip frames. Now let's take a look at the sound

 Like other Sony TVs, the 888 uses Sony's Acoustic Surface Audio, which is just a fancy way of saying it vibrates the screen to produce sound. This actually works quite well and has a good frequency response with little compression at max volume. However, it does lack low and sub bass that you'd find in dedicated room speakers or a sound bar. The microphone in the remote can automatically adjust the frequency response of the TV based off the acoustics of the room, which is a nice touch

 With game mode enabled, we measured an input lag of around 18.5ms in most scenarios. Outside of game mode, it jumps up to 93ms in 4K and 110ms in 1080p, so make sure you turn on game mode if you want to have a responsive experience. Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier, this TV doesn't support variable refresh rate, which may be disappointing to some

 You may notice there aren't any HDMI 2.1 ports, which is disappointing considering competing models like the LG CX do support it, although it doesn't matter too much here since the TV doesn't support VRR or 4K at 120Hz, some of the main features of HDMI 2. Now onto input lag, which is important for gaming as you want the TV to feel responsive to your inputs. This TV has low input lag and is a great improvement over last year's 8AG, which is slower by about 10-30ms

Just got a Sony TV that has Google TV on it.  Haven't signed in with my google account.  But reading through here it sounds like it's not recommended?  That it's better to to get a separate streaming device like perhaps a Fire Stick?   Or does it matter if I make a new google account just for the TV?

Do I need to do one or the other to get to use HBOMax or Disney+?

New Sony TV with Google TV and confused

No Support

1 gaming features, such as 4K at 120Hz, ALLM or variable refresh rate, which may put off gamers who have an eye on next-gen consoles launching at the end of the year. A quick word on the acoustic surface audio system consisting of two actuators whose vibrations turn the entire screen into speakers. Sony has put twin subwoofers on the Bravia A8, which improved bass response but muddied mid-range resolution a touch. Nonetheless, the acoustic surface speakers on the A8 still ranked as very good for a flat-panel television, with the precise sound localisation to the picture on screen being a particular highlight

 Switching to Dolby Vision bright mode would blow out the highlight details even more, and over-brighten the picture versus reference on our review sample. Using the Buridio 7G test device, we measured input lag in game mode to be around 19ms with 1080p SDR and 4K HDR video signals, halving to 10ms with 120Hz 1080p resolution. Engaging black frame insertion would add half a frame or 8ms of lag. Unfortunately, the Sony A8 doesn't support any HDMI 2

 Sony has put twin subwoofers on the Bravia A8, which improved bass response but muddied mid-range resolution a touch. Nonetheless, the acoustic surface speakers on the A8 still ranked as very good for a flat-panel television, with the precise sound localisation to the picture on screen being a particular highlight. And from the edit red using the versatile Buridio 7G, you can see that the Bravia A8 supports DTS codec, making Sony the only brand among the big four to support this audio format. Let's sum up, despite being designated lower than the AG9 or A9G Master Series TV, the Bravia A8 is actually the most technologically advanced OLED in Sony's television lineup at the time we filmed this video in June 2020

SONY brand is most of it. They still have a few tricks up their sleeve that makes them feel like they can get away with it. But they also have some downsides compared to LG. Also their marketing strategies are very different. LG TVs are often discounted or offered at promotional prices, Sony TVs not so much.

It's basically a Japan vs Korea thing.

Sony has picture processing that is only rivaled by panasonic. They have good upscaling, motion clarity and smoothing.
Still, I think the A90J is overpriced. No 55 inch is worth 3k.

I think if you're not going for 3rd party sound, the Sony  is better.  I like the more center of gravity build on the Sony for mounting.  Also slightly like Google TV overall more than WebOS.  Even with that said, love my LG C9.  No regurtz here.

The 55" LG is $300 less than the Sony and the 65" is $200 less.  While most experts have said that processing does make the Sony's better for movies/TV, the LG's are better for gaming.

A large part of the price difference is reputation. Sony still has a stellar reputation from years ago  to most people and LG, outside of their oleds, has some pretty shitty televisions. I vowed years ago when watching my dim LG plasma to never buy another LG TV, and I held to that until Oleds came out. Even today if you walk into Best Buy, the worst large TV's on the wall are usually the LG nanocells.

I've owned 2 LG oleds and just purchased a 77" A80J just to get away from the magic remote and the LG OS. Great TV's but how that remote is still used is beyond me.

I'm pretty sure pre-calibrated color accuracy is another reason for the price spike; they spend much more time making sure their OLEDs are as accurate as possible before shipping them out. So, for example, my old Sony X800D—which isn't an OLED—had better out-of-box color accuracy than my current LG C9.

So I bought a new sony OLED TV today at best buy after spending an hour in the store. The last 20 mins i just couldnt make up my mind between the LG and Sony. Asked the guy if i can see the same content playing on both and got a "Bro, I can do one better". We go around the side and they had the same 2 models literally side by side playing the same movie scenes.

I did end up with the Sony because the image processor is better. Can definitely see more details, but not by much. Also im in the google verse and it was a plus having a built in chromecast. Personally, I've had terrible experiences with LG monitors for myself and my employees and that led to more bias toward Sony. Hope this helps, either way super pumped for you!

For Vizio it should be obvious. Those products aren’t great quality. For LG the consensus is that Sony is slightly better but overpriced. Id say you can’t go wrong with the LG series

I moved from Sony LCD to an LG CX. I couldn’t justify the huge jump in price for not much more in picture quality. The LG CX was a huge jump in picture quality vs my Sony LCD although some things are worse (smoothing, no Android etc). 

I’m incredibly happy with my LG CX.

Check the reviews on the HDTVTest channel on YouTube. He rates Sony best this year. When I bought in 2019, LG was ahead. There’s little between them. 
Currently, Sony seems ahead on picture processing. LG has better support for HDMI 2.1, especially for gamers who might want to use multiple 120Hz inputs. 
I prefer WebOS to anything Android but none of the vendors are committed to providing an OS that can be upgraded for more than a year or two. The C9 can’t upgraded to WebOS v5, for example. I’m sure Sony is the same. Get an Apple TV to handle your streaming requirements.

For the prize Sony is asking, you can buy the lastest LG OLED and also a great soundbar to go with it.

I honestly don't know about the brand argument. In my experience I generally do not like Sony products especially as they are usually more expensive. Go with LG for OLED.

I used to say I’m never buying Sony TVs because they’re overpriced. Well I own 3 now but I’m truly done buying their TVs because they don’t implement features they promise

Sony still thinks they're Apple and so do some consumers and they'll pay the premium for no good reason.

When dealing with Sony stuff online you have to be very careful with some user suggestions. Sony has some very die hard fans similar to Apple. You won't always get the full truth out of them because they're trying to protect the brand. 

Go with LG. They make the panels in all OLED TVs, even the ones Sony uses. The price premium is not worth it in the slightest.
