 And by that I mean even when it's turned off, it's a very elegant TV, super thin, very easy to use thanks to that chip that's running Android OS so well. Overall, I'm very impressed by the first impressions that I'm getting on this television. And I know you want me to talk about picture quality, but guess what? That's what the full review video is for, which I promise will be coming very soon.

 Everything else is just sitting right up top. The base here is metal construction with a little plastic overlay, and I'm stoked to see this. Because last year's premium OLED from Sony was ridiculous with this ballast and this raked back stand and it was a huge pain in the butt. This looks simple

Sony A9G 4K HDR OLED TV Unboxing and Basic Setup

For gaming, the QN90A is insanely bright in heavy natural light. I can't comment on sports since I don't watch sports, but gaming in HDR and SDR hit truly impressive brightness levels on this panel. If you want to read more about the TV in general, I felt like writing my experience out below...

I just had a 75" QN90A delivered yesterday. I had my father-in-law over (who owns a Sony A9G  OLED) and we both messed around with the Samsung all evening. Coming from his OLED, he was extremely impressed with the brightness during the day (tons of sunlight coming in). Blacks are very black on this display when the source has captured true blacks. After sundown, the dark room performance of the QN90A really impressed both of us. I kept wanting to turn the brightness down to 60% (30/50), while my father-in-law insisted he be blinded. Needless to say, SDR content is incredibly bright, almost painfully so if you want it to be. The colors were vivid, and the blacks were incredibly close to OLED levels. HDR content was a different story. HDR gaming was incredible in Game Mode, but movies kinda changed things depending on the title. Alita, Alien, and The Dark Knight all looked beautiful, yet we did not experience the "blinding brights" we got from SDR content (which does make sense when understanding HDR). Empire Strikes Back and Game of Thrones were both noticeably darker on average. I had to change gamma settings and contrast settings to really pull out the brightness to good levels for dark room viewing on those last two titles. These were all 4k Blu-ray Discs playing in the Series X. We checked it out streaming from Apple TV 4K and had similar results with all the titles. We both came away very impressed with the TV.

I bought the LG CX 77 just a day and a half ago, so I am a little biased. If you can block out natural light, go with OLED. Gaming on an OLED is so satisfying. Even 10 years after the launch of the PS VITA-1000, that OLED screen is still a looker! 

If you can't block out the light, perhaps LED may suit you better. The truth is all modern higher end TVs will produce a great picture. So good times ahead for you, but if you can go larger in size, do it! The 55 inch may seem big at first but buyer's regret will settle in soon enough. Go 65 or even 77 if at all possible, you'll be a happy gamer for sure.

Only issue with Samsung TVs this year is black crush. If you were to show two TVs one the oled one the qled you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. And the slightly lower dark level on oleds honestly isn’t worth the insane amount of brightness you get on Samsung. But I’m going with lg c1 just because I don’t want to deal with black crush. however since LG has been pretty shitty since the c8 launched in considering just getting a Sony. They’ve done nothing to innovate since lg c8. They praised the G1 like it’s some revolution when sonys budget a80j is brighter than it and the lg c8 is the exact same brightness as G1. Though I suppose all of the big 3 are all shitty in there own ways. I’m taking a close look at hisense and hope they make TVs for consumers and consumers first.

Samsung QN90A or LG CX?

V. because I bought one about 12 years ago and only lasted 2 years. LG has my interest for the future.

 I just used the burn in removal setting again but this time it did not remove any of the burn-in logo. I would not buy this T.V. again

This means it competes with the highest end models from other manufacturers, like the Samsung Q90R and LG OLEDs. We bought the US 55 inch model to test, but it's also available in 65 and 77 inches

It’s all a crap shoot my father in law has a Samsung crapped out after 2 years two LED bulbs blown out. Brother in Law LG gave out after 4 months. Sony A8G OLED owner going on 2 years no problems as of yet!

Sony is the worst TV brand in my personal opinion. I had 3 Bravia TVs and all of them died on me in less than a year.

I think they’re some of the best TV’s on the market, but unless you end up having an absolute slam dunk case for warranty issues you’d be well advised to get some sort of extended warranty so you’re not at their mercy if the need arises to make a claim. Sometimes they’re great to deal with, other times not so much. I think this applies to most all manufacturers but just a general thing to keep in mind.

I am eyeing the 55" X90J and was wondering if Sony's reliability on their TVs is still as good? (I recently bought a pair of Sony wireless ear buds which were pretty bad and want to make sure it's a one off in terms of lack of quality)

I had a Vizio PQX (had it's issues but an overall great LED) and moved to an A8H. The OLED is hands down better, and I have no regrets going that route. Unless you really want the 77" size, I'd skip the A9G and go with the A8H, they're not very different in terms of picture quality.

75” X950h imo. I went from a 55” x900f to a 65” LG CX. Returning the the CX to grab a 75” X900h because size matters. The CX is beautiful but not nearly double the price beautiful, for me.

The prices will be dropping since the new line of Sony’s are coming out. The 950H will be followed up by the X90J. This is what I am waiting for.

Hi all, I’m purchasing a new tv and am looking for some help/guidance. 

Currently, I own a Samsung 60inch Plasma. I’ve had this tv for almost 7 years now and it’s still just as good today as when I purchased it. The image quality is incredible, motion is great and it has never disappointed me in anyway. No burn in either. But I’m moving to a new house and it’s time to upgrade. The plasma will be relegated to the bedroom. This new tv will be for a basement movie room.

With that said, I’m pretty settled on Sony. Samsung sets are too expensive and seem like more of a lottery. I love the LG oled’s but their motion handling is apparently worse then Sony, which is important to me. But as far as Sony goes, I’m not sure what to get. I keep going to Best Buy to check out all the Sony models out but I can’t decide. My budget is around $3000-$3500 after taxes. 

**I’m between - 75inch x950h, 65inch a8h and the 65inch a9g (I would go with the 77in if prices fall in the next few months - I can wait if that is expected to happen). ** 

**What’s important to me:** Movies. Motion handling. Upscaling ability. 

**My use case:** 
- It will be in a basement with low lighting. 
- I’m not sure how far away from the tv I will be, but if I had to guess anywhere between 8-11 feet (I know thats a big range). 
- I will primarily be watching movies and tv shows. Light on sports watching. 
- Any gaming will be multiple switch type games *(I have a specific 4k monitor for my ps5 to take care of true gaming).*
- My video source will be apple tv 4k primarily for most movies and tv shows. But will be watching cable tv shows, movies and sports on occasion, hence the need for good upscaling and motion handling. 

**My final comments/thoughts/questions on what I’ve seen in store**. The blacks on the oled’s are unbelievable. But how do the OLED sets handle greys and shadows? I felt like the x950 had more detail when it came to greys and shadows but the better overall PQ went to the OLED sets. I also would love to get my hands on a bigger 75in tv set since I’ve been with a 60in for so long now. But the PQ was mouth watering on the OLED sets in many respects. The only thing that I think makes this situation a little trickier too is that I would want the 5 year burn-in protection plan for the OLED, which really drives up the price. But the x950 won’t need the protection plan, which allows me to go up in price. 

So what do you guys think? With respect to my budget ($3k-$3.5k after taxes) and use case, any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks in advance!

<p>EDIT: You’ve all given great feedback and food for thought, so thank you! Really appreciate it. I still haven’t decided what I’ll be getting yet. But I think what I might do is purchase the TV by June probably, to see if there are any mdw sales or price drops before. Because if the a9g 77in comes down in price, I may get that and forego the protection plan. But if it doesn’t come down in price, then I <em>may</em> get the 65in a8 with the protection plan. I’ll keep you all updated and I appreciate any and all continued feedback.</p>
