 The mark two had an LCD that you could start to articulate a little bit and move it around. This mark three has an LCD that can flip completely around. So you can see yourself for portrait, photos and videos, I'm being nice, I mean selfies and you can take photos or videos and all kinds of weird angles, thanks to the display being able to flip around more than ever before and last. The third new thing is the new lens, so this camera has always had a great answer that 20 megapixels sensor from Sony, but this mark 3 has a slightly wider angle, slightly faster lens, still super high quality Carl Zeiss glass

 So one thing to really keep an eye on is that EVF? Now the only thing I don't like about it is when I push the viewfinder back in the camera to stop using it, it turns the whole camera off I kind of wish they wouldn't do that. I wish they would. Let me continue using the camera after I'm done using a viewfinder. I guess I should just spend an option in the settings

 If you just want to share a quick photo, you took on social media and the photos and videos that it does take are still awesome. The autofocus is super fast, so you don't have to worry about that. It will nail focus every time and then the photos are consistently really sharp with you know. Nice dynamic range, pretty pleasing color reproduction, just like its older brothers

 Now, I'm not a vlogger, but if you happen to shoot a lot of front-facing, video or selfie portrait style, video, the wider angle lens and the articulating LCD that lets you see yourself is a huge plus. So that's something you're not going to get on the mark. 1 and mark 2, so this combined with the awesome quality video, like I said, the wider angle lens the faster aperture, the sharpness, the great codec, the dynamic range and everything I mean: it's, not the lightest camera in the world. But if you want to have the highest quality vlogs in the business, I think this is easy choice

 The previous two rx100 series cameras offered zoom ranges of 28 to 100 millimeters with a maximum aperture of 1.8 to 4.9. So, as you can tell the mark, 3 sacrifices zoom reach for a wider starting point and overall, a faster brighter lens

 The rx100 mark iii is the third iteration of sony's premium pocket camera line and the only one to contain any sort of viewfinder. It offers a 24 to 70 millimeters, equivalent zoom range with a sliding maximum aperture of f 1.8 to 2.8

 The camera is also capable of an impressive maximum burst rate of up to 10 frames per second on the video side. The rx100 mark iii can capture 1080p hd video at 60, 30 and 24 fps.  Note to Sony: find another repair center or tell them to update their website or at least answer their phone in a timely fashion.  Original review: Really do like this camera as always-on-me alternative to my Nikon D610s. It does not compare to the Nikons in overall image quality of course, but really does a fantastic job in low light, excellent sharpness even wide open, and I have fun trying to push the envelope with it. The high-speed mode (good lord, 10 frames per second) increases the odds of getting a sharp image even at lower shutter speeds as you pan along with a subject

.almost too dark to see yet the images look great and my friends on the floats were thrilled with them (no one mentioned grain, by the way.) My previous "serious" P&S was the Canon S100 but the Sony is really a step up from that (at a small cost in size). I also LOVE the viewfinder

It'S time to talk about video now, so basically, what Sony's done with the rx100 mark 3 is they took everything that I loved in the rx10 added it to their compact line. We get the three stop neutral density filter. We got full center readout now, which is really really sweet, but then they added something else

 Here we actually found a lilac tree, which is amazing. It does give us a good opportunity to test this thin depth of field, I'm shooting it to 8, and you can see here really nice soft backgrounds, which is a great feature on a camera like this. It'S an already fairly large sensor, but it gives us closer when an SLR can deliver it's a lot of fun, so you've got a musician over here talking and I took a photo of him. I want to get too close because we've got a lot of people standing around and one thing I'm noticing

Sony RX100 Mark III Hands-On Field Test

 Also!! I actually purchased this camera for the video features but for the life of me and a Sony rep, could not get the camera to stop softening faces during video taking. It literally completely smooths out faces while filming and does not let you turn this feature off. Even worse, it smooths out the skin ONLY when it recognizes that there is a face present in the shot, which is about 2/3 of the time. That's right, the other 1/3 of the time, your pimples, freckles and wrinkles are apparent during the shot

Guys, seriously? The lens sticks out so far that when you use the built in pop-up flash, a barrel shadow is made obvious in your photos. Yes, this 800-dollar-cameras' lens casts a shadow from it's own light source into its photos. I just couldn't believe they let this huge flaw make into production. Needless to say, I've sent the camera back

 With 20 megapixels on a one inch sensor, you're getting a lot more detail than on a smartphone which allows you to crop way in and still get a usable shot for sharing to Sites like Instagram., The lens is long enough to get nice portraits and it can also pull off a nice macro shot too.. The bokeh is also absolutely fantastic, nice and creamy

. This is a very big deal for a camera, this small, as it allows you to shoot, pictures and video on a nice and sharp 1.4 million dot EVF, which gives you basically all the information from the LCD, including the menus.

 You also get pro video features like zebras and peaking, which make it easier to get exposure and focus right, and one hugely helpful feature is a built-in three stop ND filter.. This is an awesome thing to have, as NDs are usually only found on very expensive pro camcorders.

 It barely zooms which essentially means you have to be right up on your subject which, for me, means missing out on many shots.  I get that Sony made tradeoffs to get such stellar picture quality in such a form factor and my hats off to them for their remarkable advances. But, for me, I realized after using the camera briefly that I'd happily trade slightly less quality for much longer range.  It's even less than the last version. As good as this camera is and as spectacular as the image quality ends up being, the camera is just not practical for me without more optical zoom. It barely zooms which essentially means you have to be right up on your subject which, for me, means missing out on many shots. Great camera, just not for me...

 I tell myself that if I want 30 frames per second later I can always reduce the frame rate during the editing process. Also, 60 frames per second allows for smooth slow motion, only 50% slower true, but it is full HD, unlike the 120fps mode, which is unpleasant to use and outputs poor quality video. So yes, I love 60P video and it is now all I shoot.  My love of the 60P mode also helps me get over my biggest gripe about the camera

I have read a lot of reviewers who say 4K video is overkill, and if it was available on this camera, it would be more than regular consumers could handle

 Not the end of the world, but a hassle all the same.  Before leaving the topic of video I would like to stress that this camera shoots amazing video. All my criticisms aside, I am keeping the camera because the video quality is so much better than my iPhone and shooting is so much easier than it is with my DSLR. If your subject is sharply focused and the light is good, the video is to die for

 I am happy enough with this solution for now.  Pros:  Great image quality Highly portable (though not comfortably pocketable in my opinion). Beautifully smooth, compression artifact free video. Articulated screen is really handy for awkward shots

I have always wanted a discretely sized excellent quality video camera and the specs in this seemed ...

 To be honest, I'd like it to reach 100mm like the earlier models but then I'm not ready to trade the smaller aperture for that ;-)  A couple of other features I enjoy: you can shoot video in black and white . . . but I should point out that the sound of zoom "motor" is audible in the recording

 But it is VERY good for the size and price.  The zoom range is nice: 24-70mm. To be honest, I'd like it to reach 100mm like the earlier models but then I'm not ready to trade the smaller aperture for that ;-)  A couple of other features I enjoy: you can shoot video in black and white . 

 But if that is not enough, it will engage the ND filter to enable you to "open up the lens." This is a very nice feature.  Finally, the built in WiFi transfer is serviceable for iOS devices. I don't fault Sony that Apple doesn't support NFC but the interface on Sony's iOS app is pretty weak

 it fits perfectly in the palm of my hand, has a moderate zoom, does very well in low light, and has an acceptable though not outstanding shallow depth of field capability. While the lens IS an f1.8 aperture (and that get's the heart racing if you're an old film buff like me), it's mated to a 1 inch sensor, which is a long way from a full frame sensor. So while the low light capture capability is nice, the shallow depth of field? Meh
