I just picked up the Sony HT-A5000 but after a week with it, I'm thinking of exchanging it for either the Sonos Arc or Beam Gen 2. I passed on Sonos even after trying the Beam 2 out (and really liking the sound) because the Sony has an extra HDMI in and it supports tons of audio formats including DTS. I have a ton of blu-rays and files that output DTS. But I'm not loving the Sony; something seems off with it.

Sony soundbars are on top right now, so in that sense it is among the best you can get in the soundbar world. If you have a Sony TV which seems to be the case since you mentioned two HDMI 2.1 ports, then they are even more appealing with Sony integration and S-center sync, and the extra HDMI 2.1 port. However, with recent increase of A7000's price, HT-A5000 offers better value for the money. The differences are minor and since you asked it is worth the saving.

no better than a Sonos Playbar

Wish it was lower profile but pretty similar to a Sonos Playbar in terms of size. These days TV stands are lower and lower profile, so appreciate sound bars which are lower in height.

Which Soundbar for my A80J?

I have a HT-Z9F with the rears. The integration between products is great. Since this bar is discontinued, I think the HT-A5000 is a good option because you can later add the sub and rear which will give you a better sound experience.
