If you want a 43 inch TV to use as a PC monitor, the best 43 inch TV for your needs is the Sony KD-43X80J. It doesn't have as many features as the higher-end Sony X85J, but it's better to use as a PC monitor because it has a wider viewing angle. It means that you see the same accurate image if you're viewing from the sides, and the edges of the screen don't look washed out if you sit too close. We tested the 55 inch variant, and the results also apply to the 43 inch variant.

It has decent peak brightness in SDR and decent reflection handling, so it's fine if you want to use it in a room with a few lights around. You won't notice any delay with your mouse movements because it has very low input lag, and scrolling through long documents feels smooth, thanks to the quick response time. It also doesn't have any issues displaying chroma 4:4:4 with 4k @ 60Hz signals, which results in clear text when using it as a PC monitor.

Unfortunately, it's not good for HDR content because it has low HDR peak brightness, and it also has a low contrast ratio, so blacks look gray in the dark. Also, it has some signs of temporary image retention, but it's minor. All in all, it's the best small TV to use as a PC monitor.

If you prefer something smaller, the best TV to use as a monitor is the Sony KD-43X80J. Although we tested the 55 inch model, the results are also valid for the 43 inch variant. The smaller size helps increase pixel density with 4k resolutions, which in turn helps improve the text clarity.

It has a low input lag for a responsive desktop experience, and you won't notice much motion blur when scrolling through long documents, thanks to the quick response time. It has a wide viewing angle if you sit close or need to share the screen with someone next to you. Sadly, it isn't the best for well-lit rooms because its peak brightness and reflection handling are both just decent, meaning glare can be an issue.

If you prefer something with a wide viewing angle, then look into the Sony KD-43X80J. It's a lot more basic than the Sony X85J, and you won't get as many gaming features like HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. It also has worse dark room performance because of its IPS panel's low contrast ratio, but the wide viewing angle makes it a great choice if you want to watch shows or the big game with a few friends around. Motion looks smooth thanks to its quick response time, and it has a flicker-free backlight that helps reduce eye strain. Unfortunately, while it displays a wide color gamut for HDR content, it doesn't make highlights pop.

If you want one of the best 43 inch TVs, the X85J is a good choice as it has lots of features, but if you want something smaller with a wider viewing angle, check out the X80J. Like the X85J, we tested the 55 inch model of the X80J, and the results are valid for the 43 inch version.

 On a positive note, if you have an established Google account, setting up the TV is a breeze and actually borderline fun (weird, I know). You need the Google Home app on your phone or tablet. The app helps set up the TV. But really what the app wants to do is absorb this TV into an army of Google-powered devices in your house into one app

 I find it blatantly gimmicky. I also find it sacrifices OS user interface utility for a "Hey, isn't this cool for 15 seconds and I'll never open it again?" app. The home screen is cluttered and confusing. You can quickly find everything except what you're looking for

Good entry level HDR TV with some tech problems

 There needs to be an option in the TV settings that allow you to keep TV speakers on when connecting to the headphone jack. I know there are TVs that allow you to do this and even use the TV speakers as the "center speaker". This is a big pain that I have to physically plug in that headphone jack output when I want to watch a movie or have the surround sound. I may have to find some kind of eARC converter ($$)

Nine month picture life

The sound quality isn't the greatest, it's an improvement over my 2015 Sony TV and it's nice that it can calibrate based on the living room size or where ever you put this to maximize the sound. However I would still recommend using a sound bar.
