 I picked this up for about 180 quid, I needed a bass for a band that I was filling in for, rather than beg, borrow and stealing, as I've been doing for many shows. I kind of bit the bullet and went out and bought one, looked up Guitar Shop, second hand, played it, fell in love with it, it was so easy to play, lovely neck build on it, 34 inch scale length I believe, 20 frets, plays like a dream, nice and light weight, so you're not after 45 minutes of a long set, pulling your back out.  Two single coils, volume control for each one, and a tone. The pickups are ok, they're Duncan designed, unfortunately they do pick up a fair bit of string noise, so if you are looking to record with this, or you have a very sensitive amp, you get a fair bit of string noise, especially if you have a bit of distortion on there, it does pick it up, so that is one big downside. Fender Squire Vintage Modified '70s Jazz Bass Guitar Review

I've been playing it non-stop for the past few days now, and holy shit is this thing good. I can't believe this bass was only €222 (roughly  $260) because it looks, feels and sounds absolutely amazing for what it is. I used to have a Squier VM Stratocaster when I was just starting out, and although that being a more expensive guitar at the time, it felt pretty cheap.

Almost a year ago I bought one of those green squier contemporary 5 string basses with the roasted maple neck and fell in love instantly. Its such a stunning bass aesthetically and the tone is crazy good for the price. Its so comfortable to play, it feels like a hot knife through butter. For a while now its been my #1 bass. Then today I bought the new medium scale jaguar in placid blue and oh my god. This thing is a little fucking monster!! It has such a thick heavy sound that feels like it vibrates through my bones. The neck is super smooth and comfortable, the finish is super nice and its just so nice to look at. If this is how squier guitars are going to be made for a while, I'm going to end up having a pretty big collection of squiers haha. I love being a bass player in 2022.

Squier is getting crazy good.

I've put hundreds of hours into this bass and while for the most part it's a great bass, it suffered from major fret buzz from all over the fret board and even from the open A string there was buzzing straight out of the box so a fret level and a new nut is potentially needed. You're likely gonna have to finish the the job that the dealer/factory should've done before letting these basses be sold publicly.

 Okay and then what we'll do this time is have all of them all the way up. We'll leave the volumes all the way up this time and then we'll roll the tone all the way off. Okay and this time we'll have it all the way up. So that's the Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass

 It's really lovely to play actually. It's quite a hefty piece of wood, feels great, really resonant and I love the fingerboard as well. It's just great to play, it feels really nice on to your fingers. We've got two pickups, we've got a master volume for each one and then we've got an overall tone control

 So we'll keep the tone blasting up at full blast for now and I'll give you the sound of the neck pickup first of all. Okay, this time I'll roll the volume back on that and then we'll bring in all the volume of the bridge pickup. Okay and then what we'll do this time is have all of them all the way up. We'll leave the volumes all the way up this time and then we'll roll the tone all the way off

Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass Guitar Review

 Another option would be Sire, though I've never been the biggest Sire fan (others love them). Ibanez and Cort make fretless offerings at this pricepoint, and they're great, but they are unlined.

I play hard rock/punk (though I do try other genres for studies and practice) and I've always liked the sound of fretless. I already own a fretted 4 string Ibanez and I'm looking into some fretless models. I'm on sort of a budget since I'm a college student. Any recs?

What fretless 4 string basses under $1200 do you guys recommend?

By now this thing is pretty well-known as THE bargain in fretless basses, so I'll leave it up to you to Google the considerable praise that's been heaped on it by lots of people who were blown away that a $300 bass could be this good. Make no mistake -- it's an inexpensive instrument made in Indonesia, and there are aspects that are sub-par -- but it's highly playable and looks great, and at this price I'm willing to overlook things that don't harm the playability.  Fit and finish are good. The Ebonol fingerboard is glossy

 You've got front volume, rear volume or neck volume, bridge volume and a master tone jack socket. So you need to know really, it plays great, it sounds great, it's super affordable.  But like I say, haven't had any problems with this one. Made in Indonesia, excellent finish, brilliant build, construction, all that kind of stuff. Hi all, I was starting to think of things I wanted to get around to doing come new years resolutions in a few months and I'm pretty set on learning an instrument and went with a bass, however I've got no experience with the instrument at all except fond adoration.

I was hoping for some advice of where to begin, some recommended instruments upwards of £150+ and or places you'd learned to play, I'm looking for non-acoustic ideally but not opposed to it, advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
