 But what you'll notice is this is going to be very much plastic construction and they've got little details like the metal clamp that's molded in to make sure that it's still going to be durable even though it's a little more basic plastic design. What I do like about this is you don't have to take the cover off to replace your shift cable. It's got a little service port down there which is going to be a nice thing to have Now the crank set itself. The crank is going to come in a few different formats

 So we'll go ahead and start off with our shifter and our shifter is going to come in at a pretty reasonable 126 grams, then our derailleur it's going to come in also at a pretty reasonable 339 grams.  so this comes in just below in X and it offers a slightly more simplified design, allowing for a less expensive price point. Now the derailleur itself. It actually looks very much like a traditional SRAM Eagle derailleur, but you'll notice a few different things like this plastic or composite construction to the derailleur rather than being made out of metal. so your outer parallelogram as well as the knuckle is going to be made out of this this material

 So the cassette itself is an 11 250 tooth cassette. and what's interesting is it's the exact same cassette is what you would get on an NX group set.  However, if you were taking those spills drivers side down, it's just not going to be for you. And a lot of the mechanics that I've talked with throughout this experience have agreed with me. So I've brought my bike to about three to four different mechanics. Like I said, I got into mountain biking about a year ago, so I'm sure still trying to find that type of mechanic that aligns with my price point is sociable

 As far as performance goes, where it falls short, however, is its durability. Especially for someone who's learning how to ride, the Sram Sx derailleur is going to be a problem. When you're learning how to ride, you're going to be taking spills. Especially if you're learning how to ride clip lists

 So this is part of the reason why I believe that the Sram Gx isn't as durable as it is. Not so much because of the components it's made out of, but how it's engineered and I'm not an engineer. I'm not saying I'm an engineer, but this is just one thing I observed looking at the two derailleurs and their differences side by side. Also, I want to clarify this video

I have been contemplating (my wife would say obsessing) over a new gravel bike. Lack of stock has been one the biggest deterrents. I finally yesterday preordered a 2022 Giant Revolt Advanced 2. Should he here in February. But today when I was out and about I randomly stopped in a local shop. They have a Specialized Diverge base carbon in stock in my size. This bike as I searched was my #2 choice. I think I will pull the trigger on it tomorrow am, but my biggest concern is that it is a 1x, which I have never owned and components are SRAM apex, and I have always ridden shimano. Am I being a ninny worrying about going to a 1x, and what are your thoughts on Apex v. GRX? Thank you

Thoughts on 1x and Apex v. GRX?

 The pivot pins will loosen and the cage will become sloppy. Sram GX is much better and will last a lot longer for the money. Last thing you want is a derailleur twisting into your spokes.

Best part about SRAM Eagle is that all the components work with each other. So you can always upgrade to NX, GX X01 or XX1 whenever you want piece by piece.  It’s all swappable.

So I have this bike on order. I'm definitely not a component expert by any means, but after some research I have determined that this set is bottom of the barrel with some really bad reviews. I even saw this set on a 2020  $1200  GIant Talon 29.

This bike isn't cheap, $3400CDN plus tax and shipping. And this is my first full suspension bike.

I know new bikes are covered under warranty, but am I overreacting?

not worth it - go shimano if you can

My friends say that Shimano drivetrain are crap because two of them have had problems with these, one of them got a broken derailleur that got into his wheel and destroyed lot of spokes. Did they really got unlucky or are shimano drivetrain less reliable ? (It was on used bikes and I'm going to buy a used too)
