 So when the Ray 24 bass by Sterling showed up on my front porch, I was excited. Not all that long ago I had bought the subversion of this bass from Sterling and I was really impressed with how good it sounded, especially given the price point, and it kind of got me thinking, you know, what would the next step up from that play like and sound like, and maybe not so unexpectedly, but it just takes everything from the sub series and makes it that much better. The fit and finish is a little tighter, the hardware is a little bit better quality, it's just all around a really fun, it's a fun instrument to play. One thing I noticed right out of the box is that this one seems lighter than the sub, and I think it's, I definitely think it's a better quality wood, but it seems like the notes resonate way more off of this bass and it just gives it a nice bright tone and it cuts through a mix really well, but the humbucker and the two band EQ still let you dial in the tone exactly how you want it, it still definitely has that thick growly tone that I'm a huge fan of

Sterling By Music Man Ray24CA Bass | Playthrough and Review

 Unfortunately, I have had a persistent issue with the strings severely rattling during my practice sessions. I did some research to affirm whether or not I was the one to blame and then took it to a professional; I had the action adjusted and did some practice with it in the shop and the professional said the problematic strings likely needed to be replaced. I'm a bit disappointed given I purchased a new bass and got a used/refurbished one. It has been a few months since my purchase due to my lack of knowledge in the workings of a bass beforehand, so I don't expect a refund but I feel a bit ripped off

This is my first "real" bass and I'm generally pretty satisfied with the sound/feel. My main qualm is that it's clear that they cut a few corners to bring the cost of this bass down so low - this is especially noticeable when you're really looking close at the bass (otherwise it looks/feels like a great instrument from afar). Particularly noticeable on the one I received is that two of the pickguard screws don't actually fit in their drilled holes, so I'm constantly (daily) needing to screw them back in or else they'd just fall out and be lost. I can't complain much since it really isn't enough to send it back

Great value bass with a few cut corners

  I ordered it a second time. The bass guitar was too good to just not have one regardless of the defect .  It arrived and I went to plug that sucker in and…nothing. I’m like “you’ve got to be kidding me”

 I was let down AGAIN. So back it went . Although it sounded great , could not get a functioning bass guitar atleast here in Amazon.

Great bass but…

 The pickup, pots, and preamp are surprisingly good for the price point. So $50 for a DIY bassist, $200 if done by a technician. I’m also going to put a Tru-Oil finish on the neck and fretboard, the maple neck is decent but completely unfinished and I find it a bit sticky. I’m pretty happy with the bass, so far as an Indonesian Stingray knockoff goes

The bass arrived with a very conspicuous chip in the paint, no way the QC person didn’t notice it, they just sent it out that way. The strings are ghastly, and the nut looks like an afterthought, very cheap plastic item but I usually replace those two items and do a setup anyway.  Hey, it is amazon though. Just swap it out, if you bought this at a music shop you'd play 3 or 4 and grab the one that felt right anyways. If you are looking for a quality bass, but don't want to spend a fortune this is it.

 Looks aren't everything, but I ordered a burst and a wanted it. The good: Bass plays amazing, feels great, sounds awesome. I would not think it was only $300. I would believe it was closer to a $600 or $700 dollar beast for sure

 The back of the bass wasn't finished. It was just black. Pictures show a burst on both sides. Swapped it out no issue

 All in all a good product and I would recommend this for a beginner or anyone looking for an expensive best guitar of good quality.

Great little bass guitar for beginners. I Purchased this as my first base when I began to learn and all things considered this is a good purchase and not terribly expensive. The quality of the instrument is very good, it sounds great considering how low of cost it is,And even though it’s not the most important thing it is a very attractive instrument. This is a great buy for a beginner or somebody wanting an inexpensive base to tour but with all an expensive instruments it does have some slight drawbacks

 Also remember to change the strings! Other than that, I really like the bass, and I'll use it for quite some time.

 For those who think the pickguard has scratches, remember it has two plastic sheets, below that it shouldn't be scratched. The pickup was well placed. When I went for neck bending it felt a little scary, but it didn't break fortunately. It was set up well, the action, truss rod and intonation

This is a really good begginer bass. I got it after having my first bass, which was an Eko bass VPJ-280. After learning for a few months I see lots of people who used a Music Man Stingray, but it was really expensive, so this Ray4 really saved me from drooling in pain for not having an actual stingray. The package was okay

Very nice bass. The active electronics give it an exceptional tonal range and make it very versatile. The manufacturers info states that all these basses are "set-up" professionally in the US, but I have my doubts. There was a QC tag attached, but the serial number spot was left blank and also did not have a date
