I’m looking at getting a bike to do multi-day trips but am also used to/will want to do mountain biking. I could do with type or model suggestions please. 


My original thought was to get a hard tail (Voodoo Bizango maybe) and put some smoother tyres and new bar on it, then a pannier rack. 
This seemed ideal as I could take the touring kit off and use it as a normal mtb. Is this common practice or does anyone have any experience doing the same? 

The other option is to get a less expensive gravel bike (Voodoo Nakisi) and build that exclusively for touring. Then possibly get a similarly priced mtb. 

My question is, what would you do? And is building on a MTB worth the saving of not having to buy two bikes? Or am I missing something entirely here. 

Budget is 1200$ max.
