T-Mobile’s Inseego 5G MiFi M2000 hotspot is available now through T-Mobile and costs $336 to purchase outright. For now, the carrier is offering to knock that down to $168 if you add a new line and spread the payment across 24 months. The M2000 has more than 24 hours of battery life and is capable of connecting up to 30 devices at once, according to the company.

Plus, the carrier’s standalone 5G hotspot plan is priced to compete, starting at $30 for 10GB and $40 for 30GB, and topping out at 100GB for $50. In comparison, AT&T’s standalone hotspot plans start at $60 per month for 15GB; Verizon’s offerings start at $80 for 15GB of 5G.

To coincide with the new hotspot, the carrier is also adding a new "limited time" hotspot plan that will offer 100GB of high-speed data for $50 per month (assuming you also use automatic payments). T-Mobile touts that a rival $50 plan from Verizon only gets 5GB per month of hotspot data, while AT&T's similarly priced hotspot offering only has 15GB per month.

 No T-Mobile phone plan offers more than 40GB/month of hotspot data; this hotspot has a $50/month plan with 100GB. And if you have an older phone, it may not be able to access the latest T-Mobile 5G networks, which the M2000 can.

With three devices connected and testing at once, the first two had about 200Mbps down while one struggled along with 25Mbps. When the first one's speed test completed, the third's speeds skyrocketed.

Up to 30 devices can connect to the M2000. Of course, as you increase the number of active connections, each of them will get a smaller slice of the pie. With two computers connected and running speed tests near-simultaneously, the one that started the test first received 453Mbps down, and the second was only allocated a weak 72Mbps. As soon as the first one finished its test, the second one shot up to 454Mbps

T-Mobile sells less expensive hotspots, such as the Alcatel Linkzone 2. But they perform well below the M2000&mdash;typically 30Mbps where the M2000 may get 400Mbps or more. The M2000 is so vastly superior that it's well worth the extra cost.

 With median US home usage now up to 346 GB/month(Opens in a new window) according to Comcast, a truly unlimited plan is better for homes than the 100GB plan that this hotspot supports. The home gateway will probably also get better reception from its bigger antennas.

 When combined with T-Mobile's $50/month, 100GB plan, this makes the M2000 a great choice for a mobile or backup Internet connection. T-Mobile's hotspot plan delivers more data for less money than either AT&T or Verizon, both of which offer 15GB rather than 100GB at that price.

I’m giving this a 3 star until I can properly test it since it was missing the SIM card and appeared to have been opened (i believe the device is new still; just opened for some reason). I don’t have time to send back and get a replacement, so I’ll have to purchase one (doesn’t cost much, but it’s the principle). I’ll update once I purchase a SIM card and test it.

 In the meantime I hope that the vendor will reduce and recompense me for the price I paid for a “new” device when this one was clearly a “used” device.  UPDATE: The Belkin USB-C to Ethernet adapter when plugged in only showed up as draining the device since it also had an output C port. There I had to replace it with a straight BENFEI USB-C to Ethernet adapter.

 I was told when I signed up with T Mobile that the speed would be reduced to 4G speeds which I could live with until my next 5G cycle began but when the 5G ran out it went to 4G for about twenty minutes which was slower but still acceptable since that is what I already had with Verizon, then it went to 3G according to the screen on the device and that was totally unusable. I called T Mobile and questioned this because I had read where they like everyone else had turned off the 3G network? I will end this here but just say that the person I got when I called was super nice and did everything she could to help but the bottom line is when the %g runs out, IT'S DONE! Or at least it is in my area.
