I bought a 3-pack of the TP-Link Deco X20 back around when COVID was settling in and everyone was homebound. Had three adults working from home and two kids in virtual school, usually simultaneously. The Decos were a godsend, replacing an aging single Wi-Fi router set-up, and took everything we could throw at it (on top of constant UHD streaming). Couldn't think of a better way to improve the home networking, they've been performing top notch.

The TP-Link Deco X20 may not be the fastest mesh system out there, but it offers relatively good coverage and comes with some nice features including lifetime parental controls and anti-malware software that will help keep your clients and network safe.

When DHCP is off, NAT is probably still on for the modem-router combo, and the TP-Link Deco when working in router mode has its own LAN created by its NAT functionality. So basically devices connected to it are separated from the others connected to the modem-router combo. Then the devices connected to the modem-router combo unit won't get IPs automatically cuz there's no DHCP server running.

I am achieving around 500-600 Mbps over WiFi in most areas of the house now (measured using a speed test docker app on my NAS that's connected directly to the router) Setup was very simple using the OC200 controller, it basically walks you setting up the network and adopting the Access Points. Overall I am very happy with my purchase, I'm not really using any of the advanced features so far, that will come in time looking at separate VLAN's and WiFi for children's, smart devices, etc..
