Wouldn’t use this company again

This extender wasn’t bad, but I ended up going with another option. The speed from my router is around 500 Mbps. At first, this extended refused to connect to the 5 GHz band, so I was only getting 20-30 Mbps—less than my cellular connection. After I left it alone for a few hours, it connected to the 5 GHz band and gave me around 200 Mbps

I ended up spending a small amount more to get a smart extender from my ISP that gives me the full 500 Mbps and doesn’t require me to switch between wifi

I bought this both to have as a mall boost to my wifi range, and to have an ethernet port for a machine that cannot connect to wifi. While the little bit of extra range is nice in some spots, it seems much more inconsistent than the actual router it was meant to be helping. The ethernet for the previously mentioned machine was my main intention for this device, which is why it would have been nice if they mentioned anywhere on the product page that it is limited to 100mbps which is very disappointing. I would hope it would at least match the wifi speeds it claims to hit

Disappointing

The instructions push the TP-Link cloud, which I definitely did not want -- it's potentially a BIG security vulnerability [loads of routers (though not TP-Link AFAIK) have been compromised that way. I was also hoping to avoid the Tether app that the instructions also push -- the settings you can make are too limited. It talks about connecting via the ethernet port, which is what I wanted to do, BUT, using the URLs listed I get a page that says connecting this way to set up the extender Will Not work (!).  I wound up using the Tether app to create a password, & add the SSID & passwords for the 2 WiFi bands, then going into the admin settings for the router, seeing what the extender's assigned IP address was, then using that in a browser to get to the admin settings for the extender

Tricky Setup

 But there are notably more expensive extenders that claim they will extend the range while using the SAME SSID. But I can't afford them, at least for my use case. This extender works and, for me, that's enough.

It works mostly as expected.

 Af first I found the signal from the extender no stronger than from the router itself; however, after I realized that I needed to connect my devices to the "_EXT" signal, the WiFi signal was great. The only other setup challenge was that the app would not let me cut-and-paste my router password from my password manager app, so I needed to type it manually. Overall, this little extender is a good value for the money and is effective in extending my network to cover my outdoor security cameras.

Good value for the money despite a few setup challenges!

 I am happy to report that the RE315 reconnects properly with my iPhone when I leave and come back! Its range is not quite as good as other TP-Link extenders, but I am very happy with it.

 I had an old TP-Link RE220 that worked flawlessly but a newer one didn't. I bought the TP-Link AC1200 WiFi Extender (RE315) because it was a special price and the pain of my previous attempts had faded. I am happy to report that the RE315 reconnects properly with my iPhone when I leave and come back! Its range is not quite as good as other TP-Link extenders, but I am very happy with it.
