So my garage got broken into and long-story short, my insurance claim got approved. My old 2013 S-Works was stolen and was valued at $3,100. I have never spent this much money on a bike before and don’t really know what features to want at that price point. To get the full reimbursement, I need to replace the bike at the fully approved value - so I can’t pocket the cash for a cheaper bike. 

I generally ride around the city a lot with my longer rides being in the 30-40 mile range. I’ve done the MS150 ride a few times (two days of biking 75 miles each day) and a couple triathlons. I’ve never ridden a trail bike, but it sounds maybe fun? I don’t know how the maintenance or speed are different though. 

Is there anything I should really look out for like specific features or parts where I can really maximize the budget for a really great bike?  My old bike seemed super nice, but I bought it on Craigslist and didn’t really know what I was getting.

 Of course, it's gon na be a carbon fiber fork that goes onto the front, and it's actually slightly bladed, which is going to help with some of the aerodynamics of this bike. For sure. Another thing that I really like about this bike is, of course, that it's all internally cable routed and it's done really nicely. So everything comes through on the top tube of the bike right behind the stem and into the bicycle, and then you just don't have to see it again

It'S gon na make for a setup, that's resistant to weather and things like that as well, and it's also gon na help the aerodynamics on this bike for sure now, of course, because this is a disc brake version and Trek is going after making this bike

 Not only an endurance bike, but a very good do it all bike you're actually gon na have room for as wide as 38 millimeter tires, so you can get as big of a tire as you'd really need on the bike, and out of the box tires on This bike are actually going to be. The Bontrager r1 700 by 32 is the basic version of the road lineup of tires from Trek. But what's really neat about this bike? Is its tubeless capable so the wheels that come on it? The affinity TLR wheels are actually tubeless ready. So if you upgraded the tires to a tubeless setup, you could make this bike tubeless ready as well now for a drivetrain on the bike

 So a taller and a shorter rider are gon na get the same benefits of comfort, as anyone else would now up front. They'Re gon na do a similar technology, so underneath this cap, this cap actually can come off is another ISO speed. So ISO speed is on the front end and that allows the top bearing race to actually ride on the ISO speed setup and it allows the whole handlebar to flex down ever so slightly to make sure that it helps smooth out the ride and really keep you Comfortable when you're out there now cockpit on this bike is, of course, Bontrager you're gon na have a Bontrager blender stem, which I really like these, because the blender stems allow you to have different mounting points you can see on this one. It'S actually got a mount up top for a computer, though you could run all different accessories to it, and then it's got a lower amount, which is great and you'll notice that these are actually what are considered

All Around Endurance Bike - Trek Domane SL5 2020 105 Carbon Road Bike Feature Review and Weight

 I mean this is a 400 gram saddle as well, so with a physique antares on there you're saving another couple hundred grams. If you're a weight we need, there are things you can change, but it's it's a heavy bike because you've got disc brakes, but the advantage you've got going downhill on this thing is just immense, downhill, so much confidence. I just absolutely love this bike. So if you're thinking about buying one - and this is the video that tells you to buy it - i hope you go and buy this bike

 So all pretty much, not a lot really to moan about, because this bike itself is probably the most comfortable bike i've ever ridden. It just absorbs the road right. What do i like about this bike? I really like the idea of this, even though it is a little bit flimsy, the actual practicality of not having a saddlebag and how clean the bike looks, it just looks immense with nothing on it. You put what you need in your back pockets

 It says to put a pump in a tube tire levers. It is a tight squeeze, it's hard to roll up and it barely fits in there and most of the stuff that you do is in the top part of the bike. And then we've got this itself, which is uh quite flimsy. I mean it doesn't quite sit on the bike very well, it's a great gadget and it keeps the bike nice and clean when the bottle's in there it is a little bit wobbly, but it's not it's

Trek Domane SL5 2021 Review

For that price I was pretty happy with a Trek Domane SL5. I live in a city and it gets the job done.

I am looking at getting into what would be my first road bike. I plan on riding mostly pavement, not the best quality but smooth enough, and I have a max budget of around $3500 USD. I plan on using the bike for sportive/endurance rides, group rides with a local club, and perhaps just a fun joy ride. I am not really into racing against others - just against my Strava Personal Records (want to push myself). I have a few questions, however:

1. Should do go with the "endurance" geometry or would a "gravel" geometry be better? I have no idea what the difference is besides the tire clearance. 
2. At my price range, I could go for a carbon frame with a 105 set. However, what about aluminum? Steel even? I currently ride an aluminum hybrid with the Alpha Gold aluminum by Trek. It is a wonderful cruiser and commuter, but it is heavy (27 lbs). Should I stick to a high-end aluminum with my price range, go with a carbon bike, or get a nice, high quality steel bike? I want to be comfortable as it will encourage me to ride more and more which is ultimately what it is all about (to me at least). 
3. Final thought: I have a giant/trek dealer close at hand. They are both good to work with, and I trust them. I like the idea of supporting my LBS. However, the offers from other brands like Ribble/Canyon are compelling. Is there any difference in the quality from either of these? I know giant makes Trek's frames mostly, and my wife rides a Liv and loves it.

Wanting an endurance road bike - where to start?

Looking for a new road bike and have settled for the range of Ultegra with carbon frame. Scott Addict 10, Canyon CF SL 8, Giant TCR Adv 1... All these are more or less specced the same and cost more or less exactly the same.
Enter Trek Emonda SL 5. Carbon frame, 105 groupset and it's about $200 more.
How come???

My local shop only has Trek and would be up for making an offer. I'm just not sure about what comprises I'm actually making with this bike. 

Help? Thoughts? Advice much appreciated.

Trek road bikes worth the upcharge?

My first road bike is a specialized allez, and then I upgraded to domane sl5. I would say I am doing a little bit faster(use to cruise around 27kmh, now I can do 31/32 kmh) but also the bike just feels so much better in general. For instance the domane sl5 absorbs the vibration so well that I don’t hurt my ass after a long ride anymore.

Bike value. How much faster is a $4,000 bike than a $1,000 bike?
