Planning to lube some Glorious Panda switches today.  Tribosys 3204 is the thinnest lube I've got on hand at the moment.  Thoughts on Glorious Pandas with Tribosys 3204?

I love my keychron so I'm going to pick up the Keychron K8 with hot swappable switches. I plan to hot swap straight away, but I don't know much about switches. Can you recommend me switches that are linear, and very silent? As an example I have cherry black silents in one of my keyboards and I love them.

The  number keys are supposed to work as multimedia keys after pressing Fn +  PgDn. With Linux I get the expected behavior, but with Windows the  number key act as F1-F12 keys.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

In the guides I had seen online, the LEDs are put through holes in the switch to make contact with the PCB.  While I was looking at the switches, I could not see any holes to pass a LED through.  Could someone help me figure out how to install an LED into this switch and whether this has to be done before, during, or after the switches are soldered?

I can't find a keyboard that I like and it's making me unreasonably upset. I have tried multiple makes and models, but none of them have been the perfect keyboard that I want. I think my requirements are as follows:

1. Full-size and high-profile.
2. Preferably wireless with support for switching between at least two devices.
3. Tactile switches with an actuation force of at least 50gf.
4. Silent! My wife will leave me and the neighbors complain if I buy a keyboard as loud as those with MX Blue switches.
5. Gaming is not a requirements. This will be for work.

At the moment I have two keyboards:

1. A Logitech G513 with Romer-G Tactile switches. I don't really like this keyboard as I make too many typos because the actuation force is too low, and the tactility is almost non-existent. I have tried the same keyboard with GX Blue switches, and it was EXCELLENT to type on, but the noise was horrible so I had to return it.
2. A Logitech MX keys. I got trolled into buying this because of all the good reviews, but it turns out that it's just a laptop keyboard which is pretty horrible to type on. I'm a high-profile keyboard person, and I don't want to type on laptop keyboards unless I really have to.

So tl;dr: I want a keyboard that is preferably wireless with the feel of MX Blues but without the noise. Does this exist?

My friend, if you are a typist, then I highly recommend checking out r/MechanicalKeyboards or any of the enthusiast keyboard communities.

I have built about 6 custom mechanical keyboards, not including my various macro pads that are the size of numpads or lower, and own about 12+ different switches or switch types, not 12 actual switches in total. I can tell you that this is a deep rabbit hole, but it pays off big time if you enjoy typing a lot.

I am currently typing on my Daisy, a 40 percent keyboard that I built using hotswap mill max sockets. I currently have Gateron Milky Yellow switches in it and they are very quite, linear with a super nice spring weight. I lubed mine with Krytox 205g0, and they are super smooth. I am also typing on OSA profile keycaps, which are a nice big tall keycap, taller than OEM, but shorter than SA profile. My other keyboards have:

**Prime KB** **Alpaca switches:** Another very smooth linear switch, with a very satisfying bottom out sound. I lubed and filmed these with Kebo films and my own Krytox 205/105 lube mix.

**Outemu Silent Sky switches**: A silent tactile switch. I lubed these with Tribosys 3204.

**Novelkeys Cream switches**: A linear switch with an amazing bottom out sound. I have 90 lubed with my own Krytox mix and 70 lubed with again my mix, but filmed with Kebo clear films. These are somewhat heavy switches, but they sound amazing in a damped brass and aluminum keyboard.

**C3 Tangerine V3 62g switches**: A linear switch that has won so many blind test, including a Linus Tech Tips blind test recently, for being very smooth and satisfying to type on. I lubed these with my own Krytox mix and filmed them with Deskeys switch films. 

**Gateron Ink Black**: I am not driving this keyboard, I built a keyboard for my girlfriend and put these switches in. I personally lubed them with my own Krytox mix and filmed them with Kebo black switch films. These are so smooth when stock, but turn even smoother when lubed, but when you film them, they have such a satisfying bottom out sound. These and Alpacas sound kinda like snapping in small Lego pieces. IDK if you've ever played a Lego game, but you know the sound you get when you collect the Lego coins, that is basically the sound these switches make.

Outside of that, I also have some Durock Koalas, Durock T1, PrimeKB T1, C3 Tangerine 67g, Novelkeys Silk Yellow, Novelkeys Silk Black, Drop Halo True, Drop Holy Pandas, JWK H1s, Gateron Laserons, Cherry MX Black and several other switches that I have been swapping in and out from. I just got my Holy Pandas though, have not swapped them in, other than my numpad to test out, but these are so amazing. I spent 5 hours yesterday filming and lubing them. They feel and sound amazing.

On top of all of this, I also have some dope GMK, ePBT, JTK, Tai Hao, Novelkeys, Maxkeys, Matt3o, Signature Plastics, and other keycap sets. Keycaps are the second biggest sound factors in your keyboard, right there next to plate material.

Why am I mentioning all this? Well, because as a gamer and a typist, there is nothing more annoying to me than a bad sounding and feeling keyboard. It is perhaps the biggest reason why I would not play a game or want to type something. Like I code a lot, especially for engineering projects for school. I would always start off my coding work at school on my laptop, but then wait till I was home to finish it, because the chicklet keys felt terrible to type on. I have owned 2 Corsair K70s, the 1st gen and the RGB version, 2 Razer keyboards, and several other mech keyboards that I would either throw away, sell, or give away because they just felt terrible to type on. I have finally found keyboards and switches that make me want to type all day. Typing on something, like lubed switches, is extremely satisfying. My fingers feel like they are on ecstasy.

So OP, my suggestion is to look into the subreddit I mentioned earlier, looking at a custom keyboard, preferably something with hotswap sockets, and then researching on what type of switches you want to type on. Ask for a list a linear or tactile switches, look for them on Youtube and listen to how they sound and pick out the ones that sound the best to you. I know this sounds contrary to what you asked for, silent switches, but after you hear all the popular linears and tactiles, then listen to how quiet some silent switches are, you will understand. Silent Alpacas, which I have ordered, Silent Ink Blacks, Zilents, as well as other silent switches can be very silent. Even more so than your traditional "silent" gamer switches.

<p>I have built about 6 custom mechanical keyboards, not including my various macro pads that are the size of numpads or lower, and own about 12+ different switches or switch types, not 12 actual switches in total. I can tell you that this is a deep rabbit hole, but it pays off big time if you enjoy typing a lot.</p>

<p>I am currently typing on my Daisy, a 40 percent keyboard that I built using hotswap mill max sockets. I currently have Gateron Milky Yellow switches in it and they are very quite, linear with a super nice spring weight. I lubed mine with Krytox 205g0, and they are super smooth. I am also typing on OSA profile keycaps, which are a nice big tall keycap, taller than OEM, but shorter than SA profile. My other keyboards have: </p>

<p><strong>Prime KB</strong> <strong>Alpaca switches:</strong> Another very smooth linear switch, with a very satisfying bottom out sound. I lubed and filmed these with Kebo films and my own Krytox 205/105 lube mix.</p>

<p><strong>Outemu Silent Sky switches</strong>: A silent tactile switch. I lubed these with Tribosys 3204.</p>

<p><strong>Novelkeys Cream switches</strong>: A linear switch with an amazing bottom out sound. I have 90 lubed with my own Krytox mix and 70 lubed with again my mix, but filmed with Kebo clear films. These are somewhat heavy switches, but they sound amazing in a damped brass and aluminum keyboard.</p>

<p><strong>C3 Tangerine V3 62g switches</strong>: A linear switch that has won so many blind test, including a Linus Tech Tips blind test recently, for being very smooth and satisfying to type on. I lubed these with my own Krytox mix and filmed them with Deskeys switch films. </p>

<p><strong>Gateron Ink Black</strong>: I am not driving this keyboard, I built a keyboard for my girlfriend and put these switches in. I personally lubed them with my own Krytox mix and filmed them with Kebo black switch films. My logitech wireless keyboard has become sticky, particularly backspace and Shift keys (wider keys especially if I press on the edge, rather then the center of a key).   The problem persist even after good cleaning and WP40 oil (I know it is plastic).  I am NOT a gamer but a fast typist, I am bothered by a mushy keys without a clicky feedback.  Am I looking for a mechanical keyboard?, prefer near silent clicky noise with a good tactile feedback.  Can someone recommend a model?

Mechanical vs membrane keyboard

Wanting to try out 65% boards and trying to decide between a Ducky One 2 SF or Leopold FC660M. Anything I need to know about the keycap availability or build quality issues between these two models? 

I already have a Leopold FC900R PD so wondering if I should stick with a known brand or try out Ducky. RGB is not a requirement and would like to stick with pre-built.

Edit: Throwing out a 3rd option, maybe Ducky MIYA Pro? Which from what I understand is made by Varmilo for Ducky.

There are two variants, linear and tactile, and I am interested in the tactile.

So I've recently gotten into MKs and I've had a lot of fun reading and learning about the vast array of options that allow for an optimal keyboard experience.  I purchased a pre-made keyboard just so I could understand what I like and what I don't like about certain aspects of keyboards.  My keyboard is fine (Ducky+ Varmilo miya), but I really regret my choice in switches.  I went with the Cherry MX Browns because it seemed like the safest option, and I wasn't able to go anywhere to test a full keyboard with different types of switches at the time.

I really really am not a fan of the Browns.   I don't think they are well suited to my typing style.  I am a very fast touch typist, and I find that I definitely bottom out every time I type.  I also use my keyboard for typing documents and coding specifically, but never gaming.  I thought I would prefer tactility but I honestly barely notice it.  It also takes a lot more force to push down the keys than I would prefer, and I am already a very forceful typer.  I also would like a much smoother typing experience, and I've realized that I would like to add some sort of foam buffer to dampen the noise while still maintaining a nice 'thonk.'

I've read around and it seems that Gat Yellows might be a decent 'next step' option for me as a novice, but if anyone reads this and has experience with a set of switches that they are a huge fan of please let me know!  Something smooth, takes less force to press down.  I still don't really have a fully formed opinion on tactile vs. linear.

Looking for a good way to test switches

I’ve only had one mechanical keyboard ( GMMK TKL with Gat. Reds) as a way to dip my toe into the hobby.

I just joined my first group buy for keycaps for my first custom board and I want to try out switches in the meantime. I’m curious if there’s any kind of sample pack of various kinds of switches from various manufacturers 

For example I can find sample packs/switch testers for a bunch of Zeal Pc switches or every Gateron Ink or a bunch of Kailh box switches but since I’ve only used reds I’m really not sure what I like and don’t want to drop $100 on a bunch of switches just for testing. I don’t even know if I like linear or tactile! All I know is i don’t want them to be particularly loud. 

Is there any mixed bag of sample switches or should I just buy a cheap cherry/gateron sample pack and then buy a higher end version of whichever one I like the best?
