 I'm using it to replace my current TP-Link wireless access point that I use in the office. The interesting thing about this device is it is advertised as an enterprise class device. So what I'm expecting is high reliability and uptime, highly configurable and very good performance, consistent performance across the house and with better or as good coverage as my existing devices. Itself is made out of hard plastic, it's got a little U on it there

I just need to work out how quiet to remove it

 This unit cost me over 130 UK pounds which is quite a lot for just a wireless access point. I think you do need to mount it on a wall really. It's not very well suited for sitting on a desk although you could. I think it's probably better mounted on a wall so there's a little bit of hassle there if you want to do that, but the benefit is I think with better location you get better range

 Hi everybody, today I'm looking at the Ubiquiti Unifi APAC Pro. It's a wireless access point only. So this is the kind of thing that you would buy if you're happy with your router and you just want to upgrade or change your wireless access. So there's no switch, there's no modem, there's no router, this is device that you plug into your existing router to give you more or enhanced wireless access to your network

 The performance and reliability have been excellent. This unit has not gone down for two weeks. I've been operating it with no interruptions whatsoever. Performance has been excellent

Ubiquiti Unifi AP AC PRO wireless access point, unboxed and reviewed - worth the money?

So we (my wife, myself, and our 3 kids) moved in with my MIL a week ago and both she and my wife work from home full time. Ever since we moved in, the wifi networks are dropping randomly throughout the day. By dropping I mean straight up disappearing from available network scans. It's random, and sometimes it's fine for seconds, sometimes hours. Usually one or the other bands works, but they have both died at the same time. Anyway, There's no branding on the router, and I have limited access to it, but it looks like the 2.4 band is limited to either 400 or 600Mbps, and the 5ghz band is looking like 2.2Mbps. My guess is a dual band AC2600 something or other. Her internet is 400 down and 20 up. 

Anyway, with us came about 20 devices, versus the 4 or so that MIL had prior. She's getting pissed off, and I understand. I figure it's probably just the fact that she needs a new router, but am not sure. The ISP has not been helpful. They want to charge a 75 fee to bring out new equipment, even though I'm fully capable of hooking everything up. 

She's got about a 1900sq ft house, single floor. The modem cannot be installed anywhere other than the very front bedroom, according to the ISP when she first moved in and setup service. Her work computer is at the far back of the house with multiple walls and probably 80ft away from her current router. Running an ethernet is a complete no go. Too many kids and a gimp dog. 

I don't mind buying something, but I don't want to waste my money, because she's perfectly happy paying to rent the router from her ISP, and her reasoning is that she then has tech support whenever she needs it. I don't work from home so I can't do that. Anyway, we're likely moving (in a few months) to an almost 3k sq ft, 2 story new construction house. Maybe we'd be best off buying for that, so we can take it with us. 

Oh, I'd totally use our old Nighthawk, but it's about 4.5 years old and has been slowly crapping out over the past 6 months. I was wanting to wait for 6e routers and mesh to release, but I don't know how feasible that is now. 

Thoughts and opinions on a router or mesh system? I'd prefer to buy from Best Buy because I have a gift card, but could also do Amazon. I need this issue solved yesterday.

Moved in with inlaws for a few months and her ISP supplied router cannot keep up.

not so great through power line networking.

 This is exactly what the instructions say to do, and then I was able to set it up and upgrade firmware and confirm that it was online. Probably plugging in directly to the UniFi AP is another possible method (didn’t try this) - but this is surprisingly not suggested in the instructions. Actually the instructions never mention your personal computer at all, so someone with no network experience may never figure this out. Probably explains all the “couldn't find the device” reviews

 • Speeds are similar or better than the older routers, ~30-40MBPs - which is pretty typical compared to previous wifi setups, so no major increase there. • It's designed for getting it's power over Ethernet (PoE), since presumably most purchasers are installing 50 of these around a hotel, and don't want to run power and ethernet separately. So for a single-home, you use the provided PoE adapter, which would also allow you to run a single Ethernet cable to the device wherever you install it, which is pretty nice. Instructions show the use of this pretty well

  Update after 4 months: Pros: The Access Point is extremely reliable and never needs a second look at the setup. I've seriously forgotten all about how it was set up because it's just consistently worked. I did have one issue with one laptop losing wifi intermittently (but it would also reconnect right away). Turns out that was because of my Router (not this Ubiquiti Wifi Access Point), and updating that solved this

  First impressions: Pros: • Immediately getting better range than any of the other wifi routers I've had installed (which were admittedly not amazing routers - all <$50 eg. Belkin, old Apple Airport etc.). Upstairs printer works on Wifi right away, which is new

Single-Home: Not great user-friendliness / great range improvements / speed ok

They're pretty cheap used - it's pretty easy to get one for about $40 -  and I'm wondering how they compare to similarly priced new one.

Usage: lots of IOT smart bulbs and similar devices. Not too many users. Slightly thicker walls.

How does an old "premium" router like the Netgear Nighthawk R8000 compare to a newer $50 one? a 100 one?

 I previously had an older ubiquiti product in the 2.4ghz range, but the air here is saturated causing me to purchase a new WAP. Having a device that is dual band, ability to operate in the 2.4/5ghz space, means that all of my older devices that are incpable of operating a 5ghz will still have the ability to connect to the wireless access point as well

I live on about 48 acres with 3 arge shops and would like to be able to set up a playlist in my house and have it broadcast to my shops. We are surrounded by mountains and hills so we dont get particularly good signal from anything, even cell service is super spotty. What i understand is ill have to run a digital optics line from my pc to a receiver, receiver to fm transmitter, transmitter to amplifier, amplifier to antenna. Is this correct or am i missing a step? I also dont know if the digital optics cable and receiver will work that way, couldnt find much about that combo.

Greetings! I have no idea what im doing.

 My network is composed of equipment from different manufacturers that must be configured properly to play nice with others. I had to configure my D-link 16-port managed switch. I had to configure certain ports to "trunk" mode after trial and error for the UniFi vlans to work properly. This is contrary to what the YouTube videos say

Use case is to add Wifi 6 to my PFsense router, which I'm currently testing in a VM, but plan to convert to a physical setup.

May decide to go with a mesh network down the road. I would like to avoid Asus and maybe netgear, due to customer service issues in the past.

If there's an option for an open firmware that could be installed, that would awesome.

What you would you suggest? And why?
