I decided this time I wanted to put a Vibram mini-lug to help with traction and to keep the wet Vancouver weather out. I explained the ridge issue and though they couldn't feel or see anything, assured me it would be addressed. When the boots came back, I was thrilled with the profile of the mini lug (though the stitching is a bit sloppy).

 Then I traced the correct shoe position on to the new soles - once the surfaces touch there was no going back! I bought the Barge original (smelly) contact cement and primer followed the directions, letting the glue dry for a while before joining the two surfaces. Use a mask with organic vapor filter or at least do this step out of doors. Other adhesives may work, but through experimentation I found the roughing up and priming made a big difference because the Vibram surface was a bit slick as received.

[1 Year Review] Thursday Boots Captain Terracotta

I now have a pair with Vibram Commando lugs and while they're good for traction, they're complete overkill for anything I use them for and negatively impact the settings I can wear the boots in. The mini lugs had stitching around the perimeter, but the Commandos appear to just be glued onto the midsole.
