Vizio P Series Quantum X (2020) TV Review - Vizio's Best TV Yet?

I’m obsessed with Dolby Vision content. However I will soon have a dark room home theater and am curious about compromising on Dolby &amp; 4K to spare me bloom and get an even bigger screen. Anyone here made the switch and can speak to it?

Beautiful picture, But lacks modern gaming features and limits display options.

Coming from a Vizio PQX and I'm already very impressed.

I now have zero issues with PC gaming whereas before on my PQX I had flickering and a bunch of other bullshit that the buggy Vizio is encumbered by. Hell I couldn't even switch between PC gaming to PS5 without pulling the power cable for 10 seconds, otherwise I'd just get a black screen. Zero HDMI handshaking issues now as well which was really annoying on the Vizio 

I have to say though that at first I was kind of worried because the picture was VERY dark. However after switching to Black Level Full from Auto and HDR tone mapping set to On, this screen looks absolutely gorgeous now.

No more blooming or backlight oddities. Perfect blacks. God damn this TV is a dream already and I've only had for about 4 hours!

I'm running the pixel refresh as I type this to hopefully clear out the vertical banding issues that I've read about which was quite noticeable unfortunately. Vertical handing goes away with a pixel refresh and just break in, right?

I've always read that OLED was a game changer but until it's in your room the differences can't be appreciated or even articulated.

If your stuck on TV then it's either the Sony or the new TCL XL series.  Although $3k goes a long way in the projector market and then you can go even bigger.  Because in spite of what my wife tells me size definitely matters.

Do you mean the Sony X91J?  I don't believe the X90J comes in 85".  

I'm seriously considering the X91J myself as it seems to be the best on the market in that price range.  I don't think I'd trust Amazon with this kind of a purchase though.  I bought a 32" monitor on Amazon and had to return it because it was defective and it was a huge hassle.

I bought a Vizio PQX-85 and love it. Excellent picture. Super bright. Hands down beats my dad's Samsung Q7 which he paid the same amount for a 75 in when it first released.

I'd never buy an 85 inch tv. You can never move that thing again, not to mention how much they cost. You could get an amazing projector for that price or even less and get an even larger picture

I bought the Samsung 85” QN85A and love it. It has the VA panel like the QN90A but came in much cheaper (Both BB and Amazon had it for $3200 plus a $400 gift card a few weeks ago). Black levels are basically same as OLED with local dimming and brightness sears my eyes even in a well lit room.

If you can compromise on size, I think the 77” C1 is still the better buy at $3k but I was coming from a 120” projector screen so I couldn’t go that small lol.

The 77" LG C1 OLED is ~$2900 now. It's plenty big enough will look 10x better than any 85" LCD

I'm in the market for a new TV for our basement and planned home theater area. Reflections are not an issue as there is only one window, audio is not an issue as I have a system, don't care about SMART TV as I use Apple TV for everything - just looking for the best display for the money. I'd like to have updated HDMI, ARC, Dolby Vision, and if possible HomeKit integration. My watching is evenly split between movies and television, I very rarely ever game. 

I was previously set on the Sony X90J, but the more I read about it or watch reviews, the more I question the decision. It's currently available for around $2300 on Amazon.   


What does the community suggest for best bang for buck? Thank you for helping me get over this purchasing hump!

Coming from plasma OLED is your only viable option.  Sony if budget allows, otherwise LG.

My father bought a couple LG OLED. He loves them. I had the first Gen Samsung 8000 series that was Quantum dot display. I feel the colors are so much more vibrant on the QLED's.

I still have my Sammy plasma, but I also have two OLEDS. This would be the way to go for the absolute best, OLED. But I just purchased a Hisense U9G (I think that's the model) and for the price, it produces a very good, presentable picture. Not quite OLED but a very good value TV.

If you don’t have to fork over the money for OLED, there are some cheaper options. I switched from a plasma to a Vizio PQX and the black levels are even deeper, the main downside is that off-axis (say 30°) you can see the backlight bleeding, but in front of it it’s great, and so much brighter (was a struggle watching in the day).

I bought a plasma TV about 10 years ago. It doesn't even do 720p but i really love the image quality on it. I use it mainly for movies, i cannot explain on technical level but it think it has an amazing tone and dynamic range. 

I have put off buying a new one because every time i go to the store, all the TV's lack the character found on my plasma. I've heard that OLED's has similar characteristics but the price is way too high for me.

So..anyone has a suggestion on which TV i should buy next? Preferably not another plasma. Thank you!
