 For an advanced level skier it's going to be one of the higher performing and they just keep making it a little bit lighter so it's going to be less fatiguing but it's still going to get that high end performance that you want out of a metal ski. No longer with a sheet of metal or even two sheets of metal that exhausts you after the day that tetanil frame is going to again less fatiguing but have that high end performance. Tip and tail shape gets you into that turn, holds that turn and can take you, you know, in the woods, in the bumps but really this is going to perform well on piste. It's really meant as a carving ski for someone that's looking to get that high end power and strength from a ski that they don't get from a non-metal ski

 As you can see on here, you can see that tetanil frame. They've reduced it towards the tips and the tails in order to reduce that weight but what they've done is they've added a carbon specific weave to the tips in order to take out, when you take that metal out they're adding that carbon in to keep that performance in that tip. So it makes it a super reactive, super edgy ski so you're going to be able to get on edge and hold that edge and be able to do just about anything on any mountain that you want within reason. Under the foot they've got their tetanil band

 So they use their 3D tetanil frame and they've changed it just slightly this year and they've made it more tailored specific to the terrain that this ski is going to be on. So what they've done is that they've kind of reduced it. As you can see on here, you can see that tetanil frame. After years of trying I have the lady officially hooked on skiing again. She took almost a decade off but she hit the slopes about 30 times with me last year and keeps talking about getting some new skis. I want to surprise her with a pair. She demoed 2 pairs last year, the Ripsticks and Santa Anna (?).  She loved them both but is toen between them. We ski in the PNW and usually do a big trip or 2 to Montana, Wyoming etc every year. Women Skis - PNW

 It's right there in the middle of their category. They've got their Secrets, which are 96 and 102, and then they have their Yumi's, which are narrow 84 and 80. It's constructed with their titanal frame, which basically what they do is they took out their old sheets of metal and they've now just made this frame metal, which makes the ski a little bit lighter, a little bit more forgiving than past versions, but it still keeps that stability and torsional stiffness that you need to get the power out of the ski. 2022 Volkl Kenja 88 - SkiEssentials.com Ski Test

The ratio of fun to terror when it comes to skiing has finally swung in the right direction for me this past season and I bought my first pair of boots (Technica Mach1 - 105). I'm now in the market for my first pair of skis and could use some help from you fine folks of reddit. Some stats about me:

* Female - 30yo - 5'2" - 135lbs (although 10lbs was put on during covid and I'm hoping to be back to 125lbs by the next ski season)
* Started skiing a few years ago and have been taking 2-3 lessons per season.
* I ski mostly in Tahoe (Palisades) and Utah (Alta/Snowbird); got \~14 days in this past year and have decided to buy the Icon Pass for this upcoming season to try to get even more days in.
* Been progressing and feeling more confident on blues, and skied 3 easier black runs on my last few trips.
* Type 2 skiier. I haven't necessarily been going fast on anything and like to be in control and take my time. Maybe this will change as I grow more confident.
* While I've mostly been on groomers, my partner is an expert skier (ex-racer) who also likes to explore off-piste. I've started to try out some powder, trees and gullies with him and would like to progress to doing those sometimes as well.

I'm looking for an all-mountain ski that will let me progress on-piste for most of the time, but also let me explore a bit of powder, trees, etc to see if I enjoy it and learn those skills as well. My thought is that if I start really enjoying powder, off-piste, etc and start spending more than 50% of my days in them, I can buy additional skis down the line.

This past weekend at Palisades (spring skiing that was super slushy and melty, we stayed on the groomers), I demo'd a few skiis. I wanted to like the Icelantic Riveters but didn't feel confident or in control on the 85s or 95s at all. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to try out the Nordica Santa Anas cause they were on the mountain with other folks every time I went back to see if they were there. I did try the Nordica Unleashed 98 (new ski for this year?) and felt okay on them, better than the Riveters. My final laps were on the Blizzard Black Pearl 88s and it was the best and most confident I felt all day.

I really wish I had a chance to try out the Santa Anas because I admittedly love the top sheets more than the Black Pearls. That being said, if the Black Pearls are just the right ski than of course I'll get them. From what I've read, the Black Pearls might be easier to ski on but would love some thoughts from anyone who can compare the two. So I guess my questions are:

* How different do the Black Pearls and Santa Anas ski? Would you suggest one over the other?
* Should I be getting 88s? Or 97s?
* What length would you recommend for me?
* Do bindings make a big difference for how something skis and releases?

Help Buying 1st Pair of Skis - Black Pearls or Santa Anas?

 When we talk about who this is for it's definitely more towards an advanced lady with that metal in there. It is a stiff ski, it's not as forgiving as the other skis out there but they have reduced the weight from their previous versions so classically trained skiers might like the weight of it. You know it's similar to an old school ski that's got that heavy feel but they still have used the technology to make it maneuverable and easy to ski. Again advanced, high intermediate, advanced skier this is definitely for them

 It's a great all-mountain ski that really just is a carver. When we talk about the construction they use their titanal frame that they use in a lot of their skis and you can see it actually in the construction. The raised edges on the tips and the tails and the full binding reinforcement underneath the foot. That's going to help keep that carving that turn, give you that stability and speed that you want

 In front of me I have Volkl's 2021 Kenja 88. This is probably my favorite ski in the Volkl series. It's a great all-mountain ski that really just is a carver. When we talk about the construction they use their titanal frame that they use in a lot of their skis and you can see it actually in the construction

Does anybody else ski with a short ski? I'm about 5'10, weigh \~190lb and ski on a pair of Blizzard Bushwacker 166s. I love the skis.

I'd say I'm an intermediate/advanced skier (not expert) and I spend most of my time on black/double black mogul runs. I'm not a fast skier and prefer skiing at a slower, more controlled pace. Over the years, I've found the shorter ski to be preferred on mogul runs due to the lightness, agility and I can turn them on a dime. Am I shortchanging myself? Should I be skiing on a longer ski? Would it give me more stability or allow me to ski better? I see people on gigantic skis and can't help but wonder if I'm doing it wrong skiing on these short things. I absolutely love the skis though. I always assumed that shorter was better for moguls.

 It was really fun to put a lot of power into your turns. Overall I definitely would recommend this if you're an intermediate to advanced skier looking for a really sturdy underfoot, stable underfoot ski that you can rip around on the groomers.
