Great job WTB The WTB Nano 40 millimeter tires. Great addition to your gravel collection for tires.

The only thing that lets it down even the least bit is the single sided mechanical brake caliper but a set of $150 Juin Tech f1 Cable pull hydraulic calipers later and the brake feel is almost indistinguishable from my buddies bike with GRX hydraulic. If you order with the 700 C wheels they can easily fit a 700 x 40 knobby tire such as a WTB nano. And, on 700 x 38 gravel king slick tires it’s only a minute or so slower than my road bike on 700 x 28 GP 5000 over a 32 mile paved ride.

It will give you the best traction and the most comfort and it has been proven by numerous studies the tire width does not affect speed only the tread pattern does. Can your new frame fit wider than 40 mm?. Would you consider a WTB nano? I find it to have incredible grip off road (better than some xc MTB tires) and still be very well mannered on road I’ve heard some complaints from people who claim it feels squirmy when cornering hard but I have never experienced this myself.

My bike came with WTB Nano tires and I am quite pleased. Big knobs provide good cornering in most conditions (I can lean it pretty similarly to my MTB, tho I haven't had the courage to find the grip limit this far) and setting them up tubeless was really easy. Popped in place and sealed up straight away.
