We tested out four child-size guitars for this review, and the Yamaha JR1 was our favorite by far. Featuring a classic spruce top and sturdy craftsmanship, it's attractive and is the perfect compact size for a young player or even for a travel guitar. We were also pleasantly surprised by the fullness and clarity of the sound achieved from its smaller body. Steel strings will inevitably come with a bit of a learning curve for small hands, but the Yamaha's strings felt soft and pliable compared to the full-sized guitars we tested and will make for a great first guitar experience. Included with this petite guitar was the most robust accessory kit of all, including all the standard tools, plus a capo, a pick holder, and a string winder-- all handy gadgets. There was also some padding on the included case. 
In our testing, we found that all the miniature guitars had pretty glaring intonation problems. The Yamaha was not an exception to this rule, but it was more accurate than the rest, and we found that when it was tuned to itself rather than to an e-tuner, the intonation sounded more spot-on. This may just be an inconsistency that comes along with the shortened neck and shrunken body of mini-guitars. This case also isn't as convenient to carry because it lacks backpack straps.

 So you get that great Yamaha quality and in terms of specs and size these are very similar to the Martin LX-1 and the baby tailors but at a more affordable price point. So they are a great option if you are looking for a cheap travel guitar and these are one of the best guitars for kids to learn on. So to run through the specs quickly this is a miniature dreadnought sized acoustic with a much smaller 21 and quarter inch scale length. It also has a very slim and narrow neck making this a great guitar for anyone with smaller hands

 It has a laminate spruce top with a laminate mahogany back and sides giving it a very bright sound. There isn't a lot of bass with these smaller guitars but they still sound fantastic and with the laminate woods this makes it a very durable guitar if you are travelling. Looking at the hardware it has high quality vintage style tuners on the headstock meaning this guitar despite the price point is going to hold its tune nicely and it comes fitted with two strap buttons. So for any budding Ed Sheerans out there you can play this guitar stood up as well as sat down

 So, I got this Yamaha. It is good quality, nice size and nice and cheap so I dont have to worry about leaving it in the car to have it ready for playing when we go somewhere or are on the road.  I have researched and tested many many different travel guitars out there. If you are looking for a decent quality and sound and reasonably priced travel guitar to not worry about getting banged up as you take it to places, this is one of your best options

 But, the play and sound is out of this world. I just did not want to take my GS Mini out everywhere. So, I got this Yamaha. It is good quality, nice size and nice and cheap so I dont have to worry about leaving it in the car to have it ready for playing when we go somewhere or are on the road

Good Travel Guitar
