 I still love Sandberg's instruments, but I don't see myself buying one any time soon. When I was shopping for a 5-string, I compared a bunch of them as well - Ibanez, Yamaha, Sandberg, Lakland, Fender ..

After about 30 to 45 minutes of switching back and forth, I had to admit that the Yamaha was a better choice for me. I ended up buying the TRBX604, because I wanted the dark red burst color (the 500 series have pretty conservative colors, while the 600s look a lot nicer). I still love Sandberg's instruments, but I don't see myself buying one any time soon. I wanted to know what you guys think of Sandberg in general, and if you've got any suggestions for other options, I'm all ears!

5-String Purchase - Perhaps Sandberg?

This bass plays and sounds quite nice, after a string change and setup. Intonation was great out of the box, but required truss adjustment, and the action was really high too. Over-all, for a beginner/intermediate player like myself, it was a good purchase, and I like it enough that it helps to inspire me to play and practice a lot.  My nit-picks: The finish on the bass I got is not so great

 This fixed the humming noise unless I max the treble out, in which case I can hear it just slightly again.  To sum up, this bass gets 3.5 to 4 stars from me because of the minor imperfections, but it's so fun to play, that I couldn't bring myself to return it, or rate it any lower.

  When I first plugged in the bass, I could hear some serious humming from the neck pickup. I plugged my amp into a few different outlets, to see if it was a bad ground, but it persisted until I tossed the junk battery that came with the bass out and put in a new one. This fixed the humming noise unless I max the treble out, in which case I can hear it just slightly again.  To sum up, this bass gets 3

I play in a cover band that does everything from Beatles, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Amy Winehouse, Green day, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Dooobie Brothers.

 It sounds great in a recording, probably the best sounding bass i have had. I had plans of selling this off but after recording it for a sound test I was hooked. Now this is one of the first basses we go to for recording. For me this was a great deal

My TRBX604 outshines my Fender Precision and my Sandberg Electra in terms of playability and flexibility. Highly recommended!

Are Yamaha basses any good?

 It lacked focus but what do you expect for 650 dollars. Im keeping the bass because its built solid but I'm upgrading the pick ups and electronics with aguilars and for good measure im replacing the bridge as well with a hipshot bridge. The original electronis and pick ups are fine if you just jamming in a garage but im a performing musician and supplement my income performing and i did not hear the tone that would sound well live for the type of music i play.

Keep the bass just change the electronis and bridge youll hear the difference

I love my MIM Precision as well, but the Yamaha gives me a lot more options to dial in the tone I'm looking for...

BEST BASS UNDER $700

Nice looking and playing bass with some minor gripes

I bought a TRBX504 a few months ago after deciding I want to learn bass. So far I like it (especially the look and feel of the satin finish) but I've never played any other basses so I don't know how it compares.

There's basically nothing on this sub about Yamaha, what do you guys think about their stuff?

Anyone else play Yamaha basses? TRBX504

Everything about the bass was perfectly fine, but i did have to do some setup work since the bass was a pain to play fresh out of the box. Overall, no really big issues, very good beginner bass and I highly recommend it. After the setup work, i could get so much out of it tone wise, slap sounded amazing, playing at the bridge was amazing, and playing with a pick was fantastic. Definitely keeping this bass for a while
