The main laptop slot easily accommodates my 13" laptop AND my laptop tray (which is thicker than the laptop itself), so two laptops may be doable, as long as they're not massive. And with that said, i have the smaller 22L version, which is an inch shorter and an inch less deep (same width). [Black Ember Shadow 26L](https://blackember.com/products/shadow-26)

It has a really, really nice and sleek aesthetic. when it's on your back, it's something that, especially if you're a commuter going on a train bus. Any of those things, it's gonna stay pretty nice and flush against your back

 Let's jump right up. As usual, we got all black everything and the shadow pack is not actually offered in any other color way.  within the back, it's made out of a micro Hex Htx which stands for high tenacity three layer waterproof textile and this is a proprietary Black Ember textile They've been using for a couple of iterations of their bags and when you use it or when you feel it, I should say on the Citadel R2, it has this more kind of matte look finish to it, whereas this is a bit of a deeper black and it feels a little bit more like kind of a baggy material even though it is still kind of that same material or the next evolution of that material still maintains that waterproof i don't know seal within that three layers somehow, which is fantastic. I've got all my cables, all that cable management, my mouse, extra hard drive uh, brick if you will for wires all stuffed in here and again, it just closes with this magnetic compartment. This has one, two, three, four, five, six different compartments that you can put things in, so ultimately has a ton of organization in it. It has this nice accordion fold to it, so it stretches out out really nicely across this top portion of the bag

 Card number two is the shoulder straps sort of pull out like this a little bit and it can be a little bit awkward of a fit. It's not my favorite, it's not like super noticeable, but just sort of worth noting. And Con number three is that the front pocket is a little bit loose. Uh, things are likely to sort of fall out and scatter amongst this compartment, so definitely be aware of that so you're still here and you're like Erin

 I'm a big fan of the comfort, but I would say I think there's a little bit of room for improvement. We'll cover that in the back section of this review. And while this is the 22 liter, there is also a 26 liter and both sizes come in black or camo and the price will end up running about 200 to 250 Usd depending on the size and the color. The style style's not going to be for everyone

 Here i have the delta hub, carpio ergonomic wrist rest. This is a really neat. Little item to pair with your mouse just to prevent some of that wrist strain and over here you have another two set of slip: pockets that you can store other gear. So if you're carrying maybe sd cards compact flashes, usb thumb drives, you can slip them in there and organize them in those little slip pockets

 It is fairly minimal on the zipper pulls you'll notice. A little bit of black ember branding, just laser printed on those hypalon zipper pulls and then we've also got the black ember logo on these compression straps here at the bottom. The compression straps at the bottom are good for compressing the bag down around the base. But it's also good for storing any gear at the bottom as well

 And there's a lot of the Black Amber Dna in here like these zipper pulls, the aqua guard zippers, and the zipper garages which actually are great. If you want to lock them you have Wow. You have three different handles which is great. These are actually pretty pretty comfy from first impression

 So this is basically in briefcase mode at the moment. So here are the shoulder straps. actually. Sure, the shoulder straps of Black Amber are usually very comfortable

 They're always tidy and there is nothing dangling around. Yeah, first impressions on build quality is very good. How useful this might be if there are bigger items in here and this strap that doesn't have like adjustments in terms of length if this would still properly close. And yeah, how practical this is in terms of items not jumping out

 Then we have the yeah, let's call it signature back panel of Black Amber. They always have these back panels where you can hide the shoulder straps. So this is basically in briefcase mode at the moment. So here are the shoulder straps

 I like that this pack can handle excess weight such as when you have excess food or water in the pack. If I got another pack I would definitely choose one that offers a similar feature.

**Overview**: This is long term review of the Zpacks Arc Blast. I got this pack as a Christmas gift in 2018. I've used it for hundreds of miles and at least a dozen trips. I was not involved in the customer service or ordering of the pack other than I asked for it for Christmas and was under the tree in time for Christmas

The pack has proven itself to be durable under bad bushwhacking conditions. I have scraped it pretty badly on trees and brush and only the outer polyester layer of fabric has [punctured or torn]([URL REMOVED] The inner layer of DCF is unscathed. Under general scratchy scraping through brush there is no damage whatsoever.

- ZPacks Arc Blast - Sort of unbeatable for the frame comfort at the weight. Genuinely waterproof. Pricey. I don't own one, but I've tried it on for half a day to feel it out

 In case you want to hear what "waterproof" really means; I'll tell you, it's this, not something that requires a rainfly - I've taken this pack through its paces on really demanding long trips, including one that required ~50 river crossings in about 3 days and I've left it outside my bivy overnight in drenching rainstorms. Never had wet gear. I think it holds weight well and undersells the interior space because you can extend the roll-top.

 Pricey. I don't own one, but I've tried it on for half a day to feel it out. Reminds me a bit of the airflow on my Exos frame. The DCF is thin, but if you're not putting serious thru-hiking miles on it, you probably won't have durability issues

Right now I'm between the Mariposa 60 Backpack, 40-60L Sierra Designs Flux Capacitor, or Osprey Atmos 50 or 60 but I'm open for other considerations. Max capacity around 60L and max weight of 5 pounds (ideally around 3 pound mark). I'm looking for something with decent exterior pockets including hip pockets and easy access pockets/mounts for bear spray. I've been trying to minimize gear weight to make the weight of my camera gear more manageable but if a pack can make a load more comfortable then that would be okay too. This pack would be for multi-day trips through significant elevation changes. Water resistance out of the box would be favorable too. I'm also slightly below the average male height in the US for size considerations. If you have any experience with these packs or have another you'd recommend that would be great.

Looking to Upgrade Pack

On paper, this pack still won out. Weight, load carry capacity, variable torso length and hipbelt size, cuben fiber qualities(weight, waterproof, durability), ventilated back panel are all key features that in conjunction with eachother make this pack stand out against the rest. 

The ventilated mesh back panel is a must for me. I'm in Southern California so prevention of lava back is a big deal. If you're in a colder climate, then I can see how this isn't important. If I am hiking in winter then I'm taking my Xenith 75 where I have to carry more weight and back sweat isn't an issue (I'd never take this in warm weather)

 I've noticed that the pack is more stable downhill from this change. The main thing is being able to access items while hiking. Things move down so things I used to put in the hood I put in the side pockets, more sensitive items I put in the hipbelts.
