 So for those of you have been following my channel for a while, know that I completed my Appalachian Trail through hike with my backpack of choice the Osprey EXO's 48 liter and since getting off trail and obviously with full intentions of through hiking, the Pacific Crest Trail as well I have been in search of a new backpack that's going to provide me with more versatility in the overall capacity as well as something that's going to trim the overall weight that I'm carrying as well now. certainly there are lots of great options out there. certainly. I had my choice of quite a few, but at the end of all I think I chose the best one for me in particular

 Definitely I recommend once things start to get back to normal here that you get yourself into a store, hey try this backpack on see what it's like. All I know is it's done great well for me. A backpack that I have been very very happy with thus far and of course a brand and a company that I know I'm going to be happy with moving forward so thank you all so much for following along I Hope this helped you all in some way. If you're looking at a new backpack yourself, something that's comfortable, lightweight, but doesn't burn a hole in your wallet

I love the pack.  It is light and roomy.  But my first hike using it, 4 days on the AT, the hydration area zipper proved defective and it began to tear at the edge where the bottom scuff pad joins the pack.  I am returning it

Love the pack, but......

 I will say if you’re the type who likes to hike without a shirt, I wouldn’t recommend it with this pack. Without a frame and net to keep the physical pack off your back, the bag will end up rubbing your low back and cause chaffing.. Also if you sweat a lot, as I did on my thru hike of the AT, your sweat will seep through the bag because the plastic back support insert has holes in it (to save weight presumably) and condensation will build between the inside of your bag and your weatherproof pack liner (construction grade contractor trash bag)

 The fact they got it out to me ASAP was awesome, and I’ve heard nothing but great things about their customer service while himing the AT.

Also if you sweat a lot, as I did on my thru hike of the AT, your sweat will seep through the bag because the plastic back support insert has holes in it (to save weight presumably) and condensation will build between the inside of your bag and your weatherproof pack liner (construction grade contractor trash bag). The condensation can cause mold if you experience wet conditions for a length of time without ample sunshine to dry things out (not a huge deal is you’d have this with any bag I’d imagine, but a point nonetheless). 

 As you can see, my liter smart water bottle wore a hole in the mesh fabric. I’m not going to return the pack to rei because I got a thru hike out of it, which I think is fair. I contacted granite gear and they kindly sent me out a sheet of fabric. However, it doesnt match the pack being blue in color- I don’t really care but attention to detail is something I look for in companies

 The outside mesh pocket is a must, and the two outdoor pockets are plenty of space. But that’s where my biggest complaint is, they should have used a more rugged mesh component, not the weak stretch fabric they selected. As you can see, my liter smart water bottle wore a hole in the mesh fabric. I’m not going to return the pack to rei because I got a thru hike out of it, which I think is fair

 With all of that being said, folks, let's go ahead, let's get to it. There's a lot to go over. To begin the review, let's start with stats concerning this backpack. There's a lot to go over and I will be as brief as possible

 So you have the sternum strap and you have the buckle right here that it clips into. The issue is is that oftentimes you will find that for some reason, this buckle does not clip into this one easily. I've spent seconds fooling around with this to get it to fit and so is Susan. So it's an issue on both the men's version and the female version

 For now, let's take a look at this backpack and go over the features of this. First off, you have this lid. here. This is fully removable

 Now let's talk about the sternum strap. This is a weird little issue with this pack, but it's one that I've had and Susan's had as well. So you have the sternum strap and you have the buckle right here that it clips into. The issue is is that oftentimes you will find that for some reason, this buckle does not clip into this one easily

.simply can't slip down under those circumstances). The two zippered side pockets are indeed roomy. Plenty of storage capacity in the "cap" pouch and the big mesh sleeve on the pack

 I really felt restrained in the pack, straight-jacket like. I tried and tried countless combinations of adjusting the various straps, but could not find a comfortable fit; lots of neck and shoulder strain. I called customer service at Granite Gear, asking if maybe I should have ordered the Regular. She said no, a regular would be too big and would want to pull away from me

 I continued giving it a try, and noticed that the sternum strap rests at my neck, not even close to the sternum area. This confirms to me that the pack is too short. I'm betting a Regular would have felt better, but it is way too late now to do an exchange. I think the key for anyone ordering this pack is to be wary if your torso size is right on the line between the three sizes

Be Careful if You are Between Sizes

 So that is something to consider though is you will have it close to your back and resulting in more sweat. Now while this pack is highly adjustable, there is one thing that is not adjustable and it is the torso height. Based on the shoulder straps, you cannot adjust it up or down like you can on some Osprey packs so that is something to consider. So make sure you size it out and try this on before you purchase it and commit to it because once you're in it it's according to the torso size that you choose and you can't really adjust it from there

Osprey’s Jet 12 is just right for first time hikers who are big enough to carry their own gear. Although sized for kids, this pack has features also found on Osprey’s adult sized packs. The mesh back panel provides ventilation and the fleece-lined shoulder harness is comfortable all-day long. A webbing hip belt with mesh wings and a sternum strap keep the pack stable, even when the wearer is running full tilt. The pack has number of pockets to keep your kid organized. The external zippered pocket is perfect for snacks or lip balm while the internal zippered pocket is good for small items that need a more secure home. Dual stretch mesh side pockets give youngsters a place to store new found outdoor treasures such as shiny rocks or colorful leaves. That way you can listen for the whistle. There is a back pad that's got mesh lining, but it's also a large slip pocket. It's got a little clip here so you can put their hydration pack in there as well
