I want a shoe that has the cushion and drop of my Hoka Speedgoat with the toebox of my Altra Olympus 4.0.

Beware they do run very narrow at the toe and are not for everyone. If you needed the extra toe room you could look to the Hoka EVO Speedgoat,. EVO Mafate 2 or the Mafate Speed 3, all of which are high cushioned but have a stretchy bit of fabric over the toe, which can make the fit more accommodating.

I currently run in Nike Pegasus Trail Gore Tex. they are ok. But not great.

Shoes for long days of running &amp; hiking

I’ve done a couple ultras in loose snow, which felt a lot like running in sand to me. I’ve used both the SpeedCross and Hoka SpeedGoat. The ‘goats might have had the advantage due to the much wider sole helping with flotation, but I felt they got a lot heavier when wet. In all instances I studded the soles with about 8 sheet metal screws at the end of some select lugs, which I felt helped with a little extra grip even when ice wasn’t an issue

Wondering if anyone had any advice about shoes that may be better suited for sandy environments. I’m used to running in rocky, rooty, muddy Vermont environments and want to be better prepared for a trail that is relatively flat but very sandy. I currently sport the Salomon speed cross 5s and have used them in sand before but really don’t feel like the larger lugs give any advantage

Recommendations for trail shoes for sand

For years I wore boots (really heavy), then shoes (heavy) and now trail runners (not so heavy). I prefer the Hoka One Speedgoat trail runners. They are good for dry conditions, have great grip and stability (for me). I have never had ankle stability issues, so it works great

Does anyone backpack with trail running shoes? If boots, do you use actual “backpacking” boots or just something with ankle support?

, (4) have great cushioning for all-day wear on sharp surfaces, and (5) are not so heavy that I feel like I'm fighting the shoe when picking up the pace. I've run in Altra Timps and Lone Peaks, Brooks Caldera 4, La Sportiva Jackal, Salomon Sense Ride 3, and Topo MTN Racer 1s and none of these had all-day underfoot cushioning and protection against sharps like the Speedgoats. The durability of my Speedgoats have been good.

New trail running shoes

I run in the Speedgoat 3s and the Speedgoat 4 is a step back for me with regards to weight since it got heavier. The Speedgoat Evo on the other hand, is a huge improvement and superior to the Speedgoat 3 and 4.

For 3 season hiking I chose Hoka speedgoat 3, followed very closely by the brooks cascadia. They're both VERY comfortable shoes that are light and breath + dry very well. Lightness + Breathability + Drying quickly > a heavy gnarly boot that tries to keep you clean and dry but inevitably will get water logged from sweat anyway or the elements, just might take longer vs a trail runner. Also 1 pound on your foot is 5 pounds on your back

I'm  new to hiking but my girlfriend finally convinced me to go to a hiking  trip with her, somewhere around Schönau am Königssee and on the mountain area around it (nothing extreme tho). I've been looking for some proper shoes cause I'm  pretty sure I would regret it if I go with my ultra boost, and I've  found a few alternative:

1. Salomon  Quest Prime GTX: The only boots. Is it okay or overkill? I think it's  the most robust of them all and I can wear it when hiking during winter  or ski vacation. (114 euro)
2. Salomon  XA Pro 3D V8: trail runners, seems really comfy. However, no  waterproofness (can't use it in winter). I don't know if it offers  enough protection and grip? (96 euro)
3. Salomon  Trailster 2 GTX: quite similer to the XA, with GTX waterproofness.  However I've heard some controversy regarding GTX on trail runners (too  warm, sweaty feet). (72 euro)
4. Last  but not least: Merell Moab 2 (vents or GTX). Mother of all boots.  Almost bought the vents one immediately but read that it's really,  really prone to getting wet (even with just some wet grass). Not sure if  it's true and if I should just get the GTX version. Both around 80-90  euro.

What do you guys  think? Sadly I can't go to Globetrotter cause of the 'rona. I appreciate  any answer or if you have other suggestions, I would be very thankful!  Thanks and sorry for the long post. :)

I think salomon would be more versatile and less of an overkill but let&#39;s see. Kinda tempted of the idea of having  &quot;real&quot; boots in addition to my Timbs for winter :)</p>

Why don't you tell me about this midsole, let's move down to the midsole now yeah, so this is, i believe, the exact same as last version power on midsole. That'S like their yeah standard, eva midsole um that you'll find in a lot of their. Would you almost say there's like a can bar for the trail yeah i mean that's pretty accurate

Now i will say with the upper is where a couple of our reviewers like really struggled with this shoe in performance wise as you can feel the collar here, it's pretty stiff and rigid. Saucony Peregrine 12 | Trail Shoe For The People | FULL REVIEW

 Let'S get into this thing, i talk about the things i like and dislike about every product. I review on this channel. These are no different, but start as always with the things that i like the grip. I think these things are incredible

 So not only are these lugs getting you that grip, but the outsole itself is providing just enough protection underfoot fit now. This is because of this new upper, so the upper's been redesigned. The welded overlays are pretty minimal, but they are in the right places for that protection across uh, the toe box, and things like that. The mesh is lighter, it's thinner, it's more breathable, but what i love is the mid foot, fit the lacing system and across the toe box it's a more precision fit, and i say that with a bit of an asterisk, because i don't think it's solomon precision fit Where sometimes that just doesn't work for people and tends to be a bit narrower, i do think that the peregrine 12 has a decent sized toe box a fit across the midfoot that locks your foot down and a really solid heel cup that locks your ankle in, As well, there's not an abundance of materials to make the fit cumbersome and there's not a reduced amount of materials to make it weak

 I'Ve already mentioned that a number of times in this review. So, let's just get more specific here in our breakdown, where we talk about the build comfort, fit price and looks starting as always with build quality. I mentioned the durability concerns i'm not running into that right now, but i do just based off of the upper materials sort of coming apart a little bit uh. It does give me a little bit of pause comfort

 I actually think the shoe's priced okay for what you get. I think it's a great uh entry level shoe a great shoe for people to add to their rotation of trail shoes if you're looking for like keeping a shoe for race day and that sort of thing, if you're, looking at training and logging lots of middle distance Miles this may not be that kick i think. 130 bucks is a pretty good price point. Uh

SAUCONY PEREGRINE 12 REVIEW | The Ginger Runner

 I haven't had an issue with that. It'S felt very comfortable for me, but i think some people were hoping for a deeper softer level of cushioning in the new peregrine. That'S obviously where the new exodus ultra will come in into the saucony lineup when it is released. So when it comes down to the new peregrine, we are fans here at run for adventure, so it is going to score a high performing super versatile 9 out of 10 for comfort and performance

 I couldn't believe it either when i popped the shoe on the scales and it weighed in at 290 grams in a men's uk 9.5 compared to 343 grams of the previous model, and that is pretty impressive. To lose. That kind of weight on an update to an existing model

 So, let's find out if it's continued, to impress there's several of the big changes that have stood out for me, but the first one i have to talk about is the improved fit anyone who's followed. The channel knows i was a massive fan of the peregrine tent and a lot of that came down to the fit of the shoe it just worked for my foot shape so well, really well locked down around the midfoot really well held and supported by that heel Cup, just the right width in the toe box and again just the right level of sort of padding and breathability in that upper when he was updated to the peregrine 11. I just feel sock and he added a bit too much stuff to the upper too much gump too much padding, and i just didn't feel that it gave me that precise fit anymore. Don'T get me wrong
