 So as you have your rain fly on, you're going to have even more living space to use. We cook in that we do all sorts of stuff in that we still store our gear in there so you're going to have plenty of space with this tent. Some of the last things I really like about this is it's freestanding. I love that because when you're in Utah on slick rock or in places that you can't pitch your tent, it's great

Best Beginner/Intermediate Backpacking Tent: Marmot Limelight 2P Tent Review

Being in Canada you are going to get the shaft from MEC and other retailers up there (MEC is such a ripoff). I would seriously consider importing a tent from a US retailer.

 You can cut weight elsewhere (IE ditch the Jetboil and buy a titanium pot and a UL stove like the Soto Windmaster, Fire Maple 116t etc) to help reduce the load. Of course since you have a second hiker you can split the weight too.

Hi all, I have a couple of quality &amp; durability questions here if I may.

My partner and I are looking to replace my ageing Naturehike Cloud Up3 that's seen mostly car camping, with something with a little more interior room &amp; dual doors/vestibules to start backpacking with.

Criteria: I'm 6'5", strong, and will be carrying a 70L bag on our trail treks, I do need the legroom, so tents on the longer side will be a godsend. 

It'll get used 50/50 car camping, and shorter backpacking trips (2-4 nights) so ultralight isn't necessary, more of a nicety.

We've got a 60lb dog who will be coming on our shorter backpacking trips, and being based in British Columbia, wind &amp; rain are inevitable and need to be planned for regularly.

My current list of contenders is:

TNF Stormbreak 3
MSR Elixir 3
Marmot Tungsten 3
Nemo Dagger 3

I'm having a hell of a time finding the Stormbreak 3 and the Dagger 3 for sale up here in Canada, so I've had no luck with demo models or anything of the like.

Trying to keep it between 3-500$ CDN, and hopefully under 6bs, as we're just getting into backcountry travel, but priority goes to good design that allows interior room for both of us to sit up properly with pups inside, and water resistance.

If you have firsthand experience with any of these tents, I'd love to hear from you! (Especially if you're tall!!)

2+ dog backpack capable tent quality questions

 All right. let's go over some of the specifications of the Marmot Limelight: 3p. Uh, three-person backpack packing tent. Uh, the packed weights

 Uh, it says it's got three poles, which it does, and number of vestibules too. All right, I'm not gonna bore you with a lot of really specifics. You can go to Marmot's website and check them out and look over the exact, uh, square surface area the tent takes up and and other, uh, details about the tent. I'm just gonna go over what I think about it and um, show you how I set it up

 Uh, I don't want to bore you too much with me setting up my tent, but this will just give you a quick idea. uh, how I do it. So [Music] So, so um, all right. so let's take a tour of this thing

 backpacking tent. I've owned my Marmot for about five years and uh, I've used it everywhere you can possibly think of. uh, from the beach, uh, to the snow, to the Uh mountains and I have, uh, really enjoyed it. I think it's the best tent I've ever owned

 There's also a nice storm flap in front of this zipper and it's a two-way zipper, so you can actually have this all the way zipped down and then unzip it a little bit from the top to have some more ventilation. You don't see that on every tent and again, it's a small detail, but it does make a big difference. As far as the materials in the rain fly, you have really durable material. This isn't an ultra lightweight tent

 There's also some little velcro tabs on the inside of the rain fly I would attach those to all the poles to just keep everything together with the Limelight tent. Here, you're getting an included footprint. You're getting a tent that's relatively lightweight and packable, but you have all of the livability inside there and it's going to keep you really comfortable for camping and backpacking. The Marmot Limelight three person tent you

 so it's all clips. You get an included footprint which adds a lot of value to it. And because the footprint has clips on it, that clip to the rain fly. You can do a fast pitch or a dry pitch design, basically taking the footprint, setting up the poles with it, and putting the rain fly over top

 you can hang that in there. and there's a lampshade pocket as well, so that lampshade pocket will diffuse the light from your headlamp and create a really even an ambient light on the Inn side of the tent. So again, another little feature that goes a long way for comfort. Now, there's plenty of room on the inside for three campers or two people who just want a little bit more space

I want bug protection and rain protection because I don't like bugs (f ticks) and sleeping out gives me the creeps sometimes, so not really into the tarp and bivy. It seems to me like the Zpacks Duplex (occasionally bring my wife or a friend) would be a good option, being 19oz and having bug and rain protection integrated (not a tarp or bivy system, so it's simpler i.e. one piece)

Gossamer The Two vs. Zpacks Duplex

 One of the biggest benefits to the Dynamo material is that it's waterproof. This tent is 100 waterproof. I've never had any sort of leaking. I've had no issues

 You don't have to worry about the coatings aging and having to be reapplied. There's very little here with this tint that's going to age and that's not the case with copycat versions of this tent. I know that I've said a lot in regards to this tent, so let me wrap this up. in the end: this is a very impressive tint

 However, the ONE thing that is bad about BOTH tents is the way the end tie outs are sewn and sealed. The tents BOTH leak at the tie out points. This is due to the way they are sealed. It seams as if the seam seal was applied FIRST and then the tie outs sewn into the fabric
