This is my first Scandi grind knife . At this price everybody should buy one to try out before you would invest your money in a much more expensive Scandi grind knife. It seems that a lot of the bush craft blogs go crazy over this type of grind and how easy it is to re-sharpened. In order to sharpen you have to hold the knife on a bench stone in order to get the correct angle and holding that angle as you approach the tip of the blade is nearly impossible

Awesome knife, terrible sheath

 Nothing that some athletic grip tape wont take care of though (or a paracord handle wrap if you're crafty).  Overall: A pretty decent knife for your pack, that wont break the bank. I certainly recommend it, just know the knife's limitations.

 No stars removed for the sheath.  This is not an end all, be all survival knife. I would not advise you to baton wood with it (despite what the YT Videos may say) unless it's very small kindling/tinder. Use this knife to make feather sticks, not chop down a tree

 I love that they have a finger guard, but also adding in some of the rubber material that the Companion has would be ideal! It doesn't even have to be a large amount, but something to grip to while using it is almost a must. The way it comes it gets fairly slippery when using when wet or when sweating. Nothing that some athletic grip tape wont take care of though (or a paracord handle wrap if you're crafty).  Overall: A pretty decent knife for your pack, that wont break the bank

 The handle IS impressive and offers a very good grip. The sheath is nice, but weak in holding the knife. Again, you get what you pay for. In the past I read so many comments about this manufacture and the quality of knives, I thought this model would be a good one

 Carbon steel requires a little more care. It should be oiled when it is not in use. I coat the blade with mineral oil. If your blade is not used for food, you can use any type of oil

Great utility / camping knife for smaller hands.  Amazing value.  Fine Swedish steel that holds an edge.

 More importantly, the handle seems to be formed around the tang inside of it, with no visible gaps at all and absolutely no play or slop.  The reality is, it came wrapped simply in plastic, with a sticker, the knife, and nothing extra, so upfront it did feel suspect. Yet every day I use it, that $10 pays itself off over and over, and it continues to over deliver even on initial expectations in a big way.

Personally I sharpen it every third day of use, making anywhere from 5 to 50 cuts, to ensure it does the job right every time (and it does)  Grinding down the spine certainly took longer using a sharpening stone, but much like sharpening, it was more time consuming than energy consuming, and doesn’t drag on fabrics when wiping down the blade now, so that was a worthwhile improvement for me.  Weight wise, it’s a bit blade biased in terms of weight balance, but since the overall weight is very much light, I never noticed until I deliberately tried to find a center. That being said, it handles great between fragile plant stems where a slip could cause serious damage, and as it’s light/sharp, the job really is quite effortless to accomplish

 Yet every day I use it, that $10 pays itself off over and over, and it continues to over deliver even on initial expectations in a big way.

The Truck Guy

 . . the spring for the blade advance setting lock is very weak so it is hard to tell were the notches are. It takes a knack and practice to even find one consistently and it is not quick

 * It rattles a lot * Three blade settings with a slight extension on the forth but that is to remove the blade using the side blade release button.  The "Pro-Grade" * It is a very substantial box knife * It is "defend your castle from invaders" substantial (if it is a small castle and there are only half a dozen invaders ). * As you can see from the photo it is way larger. If you are wearing gloves and can't hang onto a smaller box knife the Pro is made with you in mind

Hard to improve on this

 so if you don't like fiddling with the knife, this is probably not the knife for you. But every time you want to access that blade storage while I've got it open here guys, you're gonna have to unscrew this knife and you're gonna have to reset your retractable button and make sure it's all lined up. But once it is, go ahead and put your screw back in, get your knife closed up, and then you've got your retractable knife and you've got a few different positions as you retract the knife up and down that you can lock into. If you want to get up to that top position, just hold the the button down, slide it up and back, and if you've got extra blades in there, you're gonna be able to hear them in this knife

 so I would opt for that position. But once you've got your knife positioned properly, pop the cover back on and then get the knife screwed shut. and once you've got your, you're screwing there tightly. This is your knife guys

 and let's go ahead and get this knife open. see if we got the screw out far enough. We'll get the packaging off the Stanley Classic 99 retractable knife. Get that open, Get the packaging off
