AM: CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser, pixi Glow Tonic, Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 (freaking love this stuff), CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion

The first picture is from October. At that point I'd been using some Mario Badescu for a bit, but after lurking in this sub I started replacing each product with an alternative I found suggested in here. I have combination skin prone to breakouts and blackheads even though I'm pushing 40, plus hyperpigmentation and redness issues.

[Selfie] Depression is a real bitch when it comes to self-care, and my skincare is always hardest hit, but I've finally made progress against my all-or-none thinking and realized that missing yesterday's routine doesn't mean there's no point in doing it today. Here's to small victories!

I love using anything with glycolic acid (TO’s glycolic, Pixi Glow Tonic) as a post-shave thing before I apply lotion. It makes my legs so smooth, and every time I use it on my armpits or bikini line, I never get any ingrown hairs. It’s awesome.

I have gone through my fair share of skincare and have lots of products lying around that never worked for me. I specifically have a bottle of epiduo that my derm prescribed a couple of years ago. I never used it much because it dried my skin out like crazy. 

Well anyway, I stained my white crocs while cooking the other day. Nothing I had in my home would remove the bright orange stain. I tried acetone and rubbing alcohol and neither worked. I looked through my drawer and found my old bottle of epiduo that stained all my towels when I first tried it out. I rubbed some of the epiduo cream on my crocs and let it sit for a few hours. Lo and behold, it removed the stain! 

It got me thinking, do any of you use skincare for other things other than its intended purpose? I had read on here before that someone used Mario Badescu drying lotions for cold sores!

[misc] Anybody use skincare for things they’re not intended for?

If I should continue use, would this be better to start weekly and then work up to nightly? I want to avoid over exfoliating, esp since I do gentle physical exfoliation weekly.

Thayers - love it! Helps even my skin tone, not drying like witch hazel I've had in the past

I bought Pixi Glow Tonic as an intro to chem exfoliants and was considering using it in place of Thayer's in the evening. I checked the ingredients of both and they both have aloe and witch hazel, obv the tonic has an AHA. After patch testing, I've tried it twice and haven't noticed much of a difference between the two.

I really love this tonic. It's been great at keeping my monthly breakouts away. The only negative & the only reason I'm taking a star away is because it does dry me out in a few spots. Nothing that a good moisturizer can't fix though

Horrible mistake. I went from 1-2 pimples occasionally to having a havoc on my right cheek. It was filled with red bumps. I discontinued using the Plum toner but the bumps still didn't go away, infact i had pimples all over my face now

In India, we are not used to active ingredients, chemical exfoliators and sunscreens. Unless you visit a dermatologist, the importance of sunscreen was always non-existent. 

This was also due to quality of sunscreens available. I remember buying a random sunscreen in my early teenage years and it just made me sweat a lot so stopped using it. 

I have said a lot of stuff already and further below so I will try to keep it concise. 

As first launch in a country with such history of skincare industry, The Ordinary products selected are dangerous in my opinion. 

Retinol available is either Granactive Retinoid 2% or Retinol 0.5%. Retinoid is fine for first time users but Retinol is the more known ingredient. And 0.5% for beginners is very risky. 

Similarly with the chemical exfoliators. The AHA BHA peel is for intermediate user. Meaning those who have used chemical exfoliators before. It requires a build up to that level. And even then isn't easily tolerated by everyone. But it's a social media popular product, so of course it had to be launched. 
Flip side of social media is that the pretty colour you see being applied is too much product. It is supposed to be applied in a thin layer which doesn't look that red. 

Glycolic Acid 7% in toner form is the worst offender of all. Glycolic acid in and of itself is a very harsh ingredient. It has the smaller molecule so penetrated deep into the skin. On the bottle it is recommended for face and neck. As a form of a toner, it has even faster absorption. 
The price/volume ratio sounds pretty good so I bet a lot of people bought it for that reason itself. 

Even Lactic acid which is a gentler form is only available in 10% concentration directly. 

Here's the thing about chemical peels. Everyone doesn't need it. The frequency mentioned on the bottles is very alarming. And lack of proper information on the packaging is again putting a lot of people at risk. 

Chemical exfoliators can cause severe burns. They can irritate your skin, destroy your skin barrier and cause permanent pigmentation. 

It is not something that should be taken lightly, promoted as normal ingredients and have "Minimal" Instructions. 

Even in USA you can see dermatologists online flabbergasted with amount of misinformation and misuse of potent products online. They have seen a rapid increase in patients coming in with chemical burns, irritation and damaged skin barrier due to over exfoliation and use of more potent products than appropriate. 

The brand that is reaching such heights due to its minimalist approach to ingredients and packaging will fall due to their minimalist instructions. 

Why am I writing this? With such products, even if people have bad experiences and chose to write a review, Nykaa is removing them rapidly. So even when people write with pictures of damaged skin, buyers are being deprived of the right to have access to that information. 

Nykaa is the only seller as of now so that puts more onus on them to be ethical. 

Idk what the arrangement between Nykaa and TO is, but in the end it is just going to be catastrophic for consumers. 


Disclaimers: This post, albeit online is my way of getting things out of my system. I am worried about a lot of people that are purchasing these products via an aggregator. It's not just my opinion, but fact that sale of potent products without proper information about risks and safety is unethical. 

Why should you care? None of what I said is about the performance or composition of a product. It is not denying that these products might have worked best for you without any hiccups. It is also not to undermine your experience or love for product. 

I just want you to consider everyone else. There are lakhs of people in this country. Our society and the beauty industry along with media have instilled a lot of insecurity in people about their skin colour. It cannot be ignored or denied.  

Out of lakhs of people, only a certain percentage of people write reviews. Another percentage of people watch skincare content on other mediums. Even then the content available online is not of the same quality, not with same level of ethics and transparency. Especially there's no equality in terms of qualifications of who talks about what products. 

And there's definitely no accountability. 

The reason of my post is simply a rant with hoped of helping someone else. 

It is not just my belief, but facts that the products launched by ordinary with selective information and no analysis of the demographic, market and lack of experience with chemical exfoliants are dangerous for general public. 

Nykaa is promoting potent products like Glycolic acid toner on the front page. 

I am only concerned about the people who are used to online Shopping but are not obsessed with skincare and don't have the research, knowledge and experience to make safe decisions. For those people, the promise of "Bright skin" through such potent actives without proper disclaimer, explanation or warnings is unforgivable. 

They are also being denied access to people's bad experience due to Nykaa deleting negative reviews.

Similarly with the chemical exfoliators. The AHA BHA peel is for intermediate user. Meaning those who have used chemical exfoliators before. It requires a build up to that level. And even then isn&#39;t easily tolerated by everyone. But it&#39;s a social media popular product, so of course it had to be launched. 
Flip side of social media is that the pretty colour you see being applied is too much product. It is supposed to be applied in a thin layer which doesn&#39;t look that red. 

Glycolic Acid 7% in toner form is the worst offender of all. Glycolic acid in and of itself is a very harsh ingredient. It has the smaller molecule so penetrated deep into the skin. On the bottle it is recommended for face and neck. As a form of a toner, it has even faster absorption. 
The price/volume ratio sounds pretty good so I bet a lot of people bought it for that reason itself. 

Even Lactic acid which is a gentler form is only available in 10% concentration directly. 

Here&#39;s the thing about chemical peels. Everyone doesn&#39;t need it. The frequency mentioned on the bottles is very alarming. And lack of proper information on the packaging is again putting a lot of people at risk. 

Chemical exfoliators can cause severe burns. They can irritate your skin, destroy your skin barrier and cause permanent pigmentation. 

It is not something that should be taken lightly, promoted as normal ingredients and have &quot;Minimal&quot; Instructions. 

Even in USA you can see dermatologists online flabbergasted with amount of misinformation and misuse of potent products online. They have seen a rapid increase in patients coming in with chemical burns, irritation and damaged skin barrier due to over exfoliation and use of more potent products than appropriate. 

The brand that is reaching such heights due to its minimalist approach to ingredients and packaging will fall due to their minimalist instructions. 

Why am I writing this? With such products, even if people have bad experiences and chose to write a review, Nykaa is removing them rapidly. So even when people write with pictures of damaged skin, buyers are being deprived of the right to have access to that information. 

Nykaa is the only seller as of now so that puts more onus on them to be ethical. 

Idk what the arrangement between Nykaa and TO is, but in the end it is just going to be catastrophic for consumers. 

Disclaimers: This post, albeit online is my way of getting things out of my system. I am worried about a lot of people that are purchasing these products via an aggregator. It&#39;s not just my opinion, but fact that sale of potent products without proper information about risks and safety is unethical. 

Why should you care? None of what I said is about the performance or composition of a product. It is not denying that these products might have worked best for you without any hiccups. It is also not to undermine your experience or love for product. 

I just want you to consider everyone else. There are lakhs of people in this country. Our society and the beauty industry along with media have instilled a lot of insecurity in people about their skin colour. It cannot be ignored or denied. 

Out of lakhs of people, only a certain percentage of people write reviews. Another percentage of people watch skincare content on other mediums. Even then the content available online is not of the same quality, not with same level of ethics and transparency. Especially there&#39;s no equality in terms of qualifications of who talks about what products. 

And there&#39;s definitely no accountability. 

The reason of my post is simply a rant with hoped of helping someone else. 

It is not just my belief, but facts that the products launched by ordinary with selective information and no analysis of the demographic, market and lack of experience with chemical exfoliants are dangerous for general public. 

Nykaa is promoting potent products like Glycolic acid toner on the front page. 

I am only concerned about the people who are used to online Shopping but are not obsessed with skincare and don&#39;t have the research, knowledge and experience to make safe decisions. For those people, the promise of &quot;Bright skin&quot; through such potent actives without proper disclaimer, explanation or warnings is unforgivable. 

They are also being denied access to people&#39;s bad experience due to Nykaa deleting negative reviews.

Benton green tea toner + iUnik's tea tree relief serum + iUnik centella calming gel are a good combo for my oily, acne-prone skin. I prefer light layers of hydration than a heavier moisturizer alone.

I am for a hydrating toner and moisturizer for my extremely oily, dehydrated, super acne-prone skin.

Recently someone had mentioned that I maybe using products that are targeting dry skins to hydrate my skin. However, they mentioned that this shouldn’t be the case because products that aren’t made for oily skin type can break me out. 

It seems to make sense because I seem to breakout from everything I’ve tried that hydrates my skin which most are made specifically for DRY skin.
