And how it does that is that both the chainstays have been dropped down below the point of the Bb where normally there'd be like a horizontal chainstay here, and that means you can fit an enormous tyre in there without the normal clash that you get of the chainstay coming up against the chainring. Similarly, the front end of the bike, we have a really tight clearance here for where the down tube meets the front tire. That's coupled with a real increase in rigidity of the frame. And we can see that with this ultra wide 75 millimeter down tube, that not only is a more rigid setup, but also with a really wide cross section

 Really, with tires this big, there's obviously a huge scope for tweaking. Comfort you can, especially if you're running turbulence. You can go really really low on pressures, but to be honest, you don't need to go that low. There is a bit of a mismatch I think in comfort between the front and rear ends coming from the frame because the front end really doesn't have any built in give at all, whereas the elastomer seatpost gives quite a lot of squish to the rear end and you can actually feel it flexing as you're riding over the bumps

I do like 80-90 percent of my riding on roads but occasionally I’ll throw in some rough stuff but it’s mostly forgotten roads and rights of way through the forest, so looking for tire clearance if around 32c with fenders. I’m on board with custom frames or not custom frames but would prefer to spec the bike myself. If not, I’m pretty set on Force AXS. Budget is around 2500-3000 for the frameset. I prefer not aluminum but I’m cool with carbon or steel. Thanks!

Need suggestions for a road-ish bike

Hi,

I am just recently starting to train for triathlons in my area.

I have ambitions of eventually doing a half ironman but probably not for a couple of years.

I am probably going to do most of my training off of roadways just because I hate traffic but I would like a gravel bike that has a more aggressive stance for racing that will work when I shift the tires out.

I don't expect to be competitive but don't want to be held way too far back by equipment so a gravel bike will work well enough for me. I am thinking that since I will do the occasional race on roads a 2x will make more sense.

I do weigh a little more and the hills around here are steep so disc brakes are necessary.

My main problem is trying to come up with a budget. I am by no means rich but I will be using this a lot so I would be willing to spend if I get more value per dollar out of it. I am still researching but there are so many options I am hoping for suggestions so I can start making a more informed decision.

Aluminum Gravel Bike that can be used for Triathlons

It's been a while since I've ridden regularly. I used to have a Canondale Synapse 105 Disc that I rode when I was living in California. I moved to Nevada (Las Vegas area) a couple years ago and sold my Cannondale. I still have my old steel framed fixie from my college days though, will never get rid of that one.

Anyway, long story short, I am debating between getting a do it all gravel bike or a road bike. I enjoy road cycling, but there aren't very many bike friendly roads in my area. There are plenty of places with trails around here, some paved, some gravel. My fixie is fun, but all the hills around here are killing me slowly. I've seen some franken bikes where people swap their road/gravel wheels on their gravel frames and seem to get a bit of both worlds.

Any recommendations for fast gravel bikes or road bikes that can handle a bit of dirt? Looking for something around $1000-2000. I know I'll probably have to wait a while for stock too due to pandemic.
