Looking for an all-around bag - travel, hike, city tourism and urban design

  I found the waist belt to be underwhelming. I don't recall seeing any storage pouches or zippers on the belt, which seemed like a massive oversight to me. Theoretically I could add my own with some after-market contraption, but I shouldn't need to do that after paying the sticker price for this bag. In comparison, both the Tortuga and AZ Pro came with storage at the hip

.. it is always depicted as being kind of bean-shaped. And you are telling me I am going to strap my expensive laptop to the outer edge of that bean? No thank you

 (And the AZ pro was under $50)  Another thing to note is the laptop storage. I personally consider it a disaster. Instead of the laptop sleeve being closest to the back, where you get the extra protection from the internal frame AND the area of the backpack most likely to stay flat, the Osprey puts the laptop sleeve farthest away from the back, so as soon as you pack up all your clothing and whatever, the pack will have a rounded shape, constantly trying to flex the laptop sleeve to conform. Just think about every time you have seen this back in a photo or real life

Last week I took my first long trip with the Aer Travel 2 pack. For the most part it was fine except for the fact that it was uncomfortable to wear while walking which is probably the biggest con a one bag backpack could have. My husband had the Fairpoint and says its very comfortable but I dont love the way it's laid out, especially the laptop sleeve being in the front.

I am probably going to replace my Aer pack for my next big trip but I'm  stuck as to what I should get as a replacement. I want the laptop sleeve to be against the back of the bag, hipbelts, international carry on sized. Ideally it also wont be covered in dangly straps. 

Part of me wants to try Tortuga but I am worried I am going to run into the same problem. Should I just suck it up and get the Osprey and just midly hate the way my bag looks?

Alternatives to Aer Travel 2 and Osprey Fairview

 Carry handles are very comfortable and low profile 2. Main compartment is useful for packing lots of clothing, it fully opens suitcase/clamshell style 3. The compression straps in the main compartment and the exterior can help save some space for carry on use 4. Packing up the shoulder and hip straps can help with the in/out for airplanes, otherwise you will have a lot of straps getting caught and/or hitting you and others :) 5

I definitely like the bright green interior for helping locate items in low light. 6

 You will need to lean the pack on your body or a wall etc if you want to access it when upright. 3. While the hip strap is great when you are walking long distances, there is no way to store them and use the shoulder straps at the same time.  If you treat it more like a suitcase with backpack straps, then it works fine, but if you want to keep it on you for daily use, I would look elsewhere due to the lack of quick access pockets and organization

OK For Travelling

I have been an over packer my entire life. I was carrying a full 65L backpack hiking through SEA.

However I not a fan of the look, but I was willing to let go of that for the sqke of practicality. 

Great for a weekend bag, tough for a multi week trip

Does anyone own or have feedback on the aevor travel bag? 

I really like the look, but other than their marketing I can't find much about it.

AEVOR travel bag reviews?

 It was TSA compliant for carry on. Again, I am sure it will work for me other than airport travel, and quality top notch.

 Getting it on, I could not see the straps AT ALL. If I did not have a traveling companion I am not sure I would have gotten it on. I would have required a mirror. Once on the hip straps did their job and kept the weight off my shoulders

 I tried the shoulder strap, it was painful. No cushioning at all, and it dragged on my shoulder..

fully packed out it is heavy and cumbersome and straps are difficult to visualize and secure.

I wanted a day travel bag to take with me as a carry-on when I fly. The intent was to take my electronics (laptop and tablet) and a couple days worth of clothes and use one carry-on back pack as the means to accomplish this. For the record, I had no intent of using this for hiking or backpacking. Just wanted a large back pack for traveling with cool pockets and decent storage

 But using it as an urban adventurer, those non hidable waist straps were a deal breaker for me and I returned it.

 I don't want to forced to be using the waist band as I'm carrying this thing on my back through an airport or any other day-to-day errands.  It's hard to describe without actually seeing it, but if you're careful and take your time rolling the panel up then you'll avoid that from happening. Another reason why I didn't give the Farpoint 40 5 stars is because you're stuck with the hip straps. Unlike the Venturesafe 45 or other bags similar to this one bag carry-on backpack, the Farpoint 40 hip belt doesn't tuck away anywhere. I know I won't always want to use them, especially since the shoulder pads distribute the weight so well

 Especially on the current version with minimal logo/branding. I think if Osprey were to get rid of the 2 front water bottle pockets and replace them with one water bottle pocket on the side that doesn't have the carry handle as well as do a slight redesign to their back panel cover that might allow you to tuck the hip pads away, they'd have a real winner in the carry-on convertible backpack market. I know people will complain about laptop compartment, but if they put it against your back then you'd lose the back ventilation and ergonomic back panel. I think their idea behind it being on top is so it's easier to remove from the bag when it's on a TSA X-ray belt

 I couldn't care less about the laptop compartments on any of these bags because, I don't travel with one. The Venturesafe 45 has a 5 year warranty. It also IS NOT a true 45L bag. I don't know where they get that, but it has less space than any of the 34-40 liter bags I've tested

 The smaller top pocket is perfect for your TSA liquid bag or throwing in the contents of your pants pockets before sending it through the x-ray machine. I do TSA Precheck so I don't have to take out my liquids, but leaving from other countries, liquids do have to come out so this pocket is handy. When leaving the US, put my wallet, cellphone and watch in the pocket so they're not in plain sight to temps any sticky fingers. The current model has more of a low key logo of just the bird and Osprey wording, not what the picture Amazon shows
