hi there! our family of four (mom, dad, 3-year-old and 6-month-old) will be on a 4+ hour plane ride next month. not sure if you've heard of the movie Encanto, but our 3yo is obsessed, and we are hoping to let her watching the movie on the plane ride. I thought my old iPad 2 (from, oh, 2011 or so) would work for this, but Disney+ does not work on such an old device.

buying a brand new iPad for about $400 feels a little crazy for just this one trip, but I'm skeptical that a cheap $50 Amazon Fire tablet will actually do the trick.

have any of you parents successfully used a tablet other than an iPad for downloading videos from Disney+  to play the movies offline on an airplane?

 My phone, which I've used all morning to make calls, text, watch a few video's, look at FB, browse, etc., is down to 76% battery. The tablet, which I've used to download four apps and had maybe about 20 minutes of use and has been on standby is down to 75%. The battery does not last long at all

The tech I'm planning to bring includes Samsung s22 ultra phone, Fuji mirrorless camera, smart watch, Sony headphones...

Would you recommend buying/bringing a tablet with a keyboard? I'd mainly use it for movies, books, backing up photos from camera, and surfing the web/booking stuff. 

But don't know if it's worth the extra weight (~1.5 lbs), space and price.

There are some good Chinese tablets if you know what to look for but you have to be good at reading specs. The safest, best cheap tablet is the Amazon Fire tablet and then Google how to add the Google Play Store to it.

Anything running Android 4.4 (2014 builds or so) have very limited app support these days. Look for something running Android  8.0 or 9.0. They're still cheap and will be a far better experience.

I have seen them all over ebay and amazon for very cheap. The only thing I see that's bad is that they have android 4.4, Which means app support wont be the best. Has anyone used one of these before? Are they good or not?

I just recently picked up the Fire HD8 off of amazon's recent sale for $60 and use it for this exact purpose. I have Manga, Cookbooks, and Video streaming apps loaded up and its wonderful! Although a tad sluggish compared to my smartphone, but nothing to scoff at. I did load up nova player on it because Fire OS isn't my cup of tea (I prefer the more stock android look) and it runs wonderfully! Unfortunately, the tablet is back to its normal price of $90. At $60 this thing is insane value especially considering it has expandable storage. I'm almost at the point where I could almost replace my tablet I use for school with this thing. If you find it on sale, highly highly recommend, at $90 I'd still be fairly pleased.

I whole-heartedly recommend the Amazon Fire tablets. They’re hella cheap and perfect for media consumption.

Plus you can use a program to easily remove Amazon junk and make them pretty much stock(ish) Android with Play Store access.

Best Android tablet to buy for mainly reading comics and viewing media?

 Battery life seems quite short. Performance is a little slow. The worst of all? The trade war between Amazon and Google makes it virtually impossible to download apps from the Google play store. There is a way but it is quite contrived

Grow up Amazon and stop blocking Google play.
